She retired in 1974 as a teacher at Waynedale Elementary in Fort Wayne after 20 years. Her husband, Ernest L., died in 2001. Surviving are a son, Kevin Gene of Bryan, Texas; a daughter, Karen Sue Walker of Fort Wayne; and two grandchildren.
