WALTER E. IHNEN, 78, died Friday at home. Born in Kosciusko County, he retired as manager of D&M; Machine Shop in Laketon and was a World War II Army veteran. He was founding charter member of North Manchester-Wabash Recycling. His first wife, Dorothy, died in 1996. Surviving are his wife, Joann; three sons, Larry of North Manchester, Richard of Warsaw and Brian of Orlando, Fla.; two stepsons, Larry Jackson of Fort Wayne and Gary Jackson of Delton; two daughters, Susan Dockter of North Manchester and Linda Riggle of Warsaw; two brothers, Richard of North Manchester and Tom of Wabash; four sisters, Patsy Fairchild of Huntington, Margaret Osborn of Sidney, Ohio, Phyllis Hapner of North Manchester and Donna Fix of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. He was a Korean War Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Becky; two sons, Steven L. of North Manchester and Stanley L. of Miamisburg, Ohio; a stepson, Christopher Gerding of Roanoke; two stepdaughters, Renee Kartholl of Fort Wayne and Cynthia Bill of Howe; three brothers, Don and Arnold, both of Rochester, and Albert of Warsaw; three sisters, Catherine Keele of Las Vegas, Bernice Kline of Sneedville, Tenn., and Joyce Lewis of Rochester; two grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.
