Born in LaGrange County, he was a retired transportation engineer and was chief executive officer and founder of Ashley Housing Corp. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran. His daughter, Carol Witkowski, died in 1986. Surviving are his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Susan Green of Muncie and Rebecca Coar of Fort Wayne; a son, Lee Smith of Port Ludlow, Wash.; two brothers, R. Karl of Wooster, Ohio, and James Ray of Sebring, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson. Calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial in Woodruff cemetery, Wolcottville.

MARGARET KIEFER, 75, died Tuesday at Adams County Memorial Hospital, Decatur. Born in Allen County, she was a homemaker. Her husband, Clifford, died in 1995. Surviving are three daughters, Sheila Putteet, Betty Sielschott and Patricia R. Strickler, all of Decatur; two sons, Kent A. of Decatur and Gerry D. of O'Fallon, Mo.; two brothers, Raymond Scheumann of Fort Wayne and Arnold Scheumann of Hoagland; three sisters, Geraldine Meyer of Ossian and Lona Horman and Garnita Rebber, both of New Haven; and 13 grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Delvin. Prayers at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at Zion Lutheran Church, Frieheim. WILMA J. SUTER, 82, died Monday at home. Born in Huntington County, she worked at Kitchen Maid in Andrews and retired from Memcor in Huntington. She had taught junior bowlers for 50 years at Rainbow Lanes in Huntington. Her husband, Donald, died earlier this year. Surviving are two sons, Larry of Anderson and Delbert of Huntington; a daughter, Annette Busz of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Mae Shilling of Huntington; and a brother, Doyle Richardson of Huntington. Born near Wolf lake, he was a school bus driver for several years for Kendallville High School and had worked at McCray Refrigeration Co. in Kendallville and E.F. Seagly Co. He retired in 1977 from J.O. Mory Inc. after 25 years. He had served on the South Milford Volunteer Fire Department from 1951 to 1995. Surviving are his wife, Avis; a son, David A. of Kendallville; a daughter, Sue E. Sipe of South Bend; four grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
