Semmie B. Johnson
SHARPSVILLE – Semmie B. Johnson, 99, Sharpsville, died at 4:48 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 at Tipton Hospital.
Born March 18, 1909 in Clay County, Tenn., she was the daughter of Jasper L. and Louisa C. (Vaughan) Moore.
On March 27, 1926 in Whitleyville, Tenn., she married George B. Johnson. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1997.
She had lived in the Sharpsville area since 1972, moving here from Greensburg. She was a member of Sharpsville United Methodist Church, Friendship Circle and United Methodist Women’s Organization.
She is survived by nine children, Bedford J. and wife Evelyn Johnson of Sharpsville, Deloris and her deceased husband, James Tays of Greensburg, James and wife Brenda Johnson of West Morlan, Tenn., Rosie and her deceased husband James Clayton of Clarksville, Tenn., Lester and wife Linda of Greensburg, Carlie and wife Karen of Columbus, Harlie and wife Mary of Sheridan and Anna and husband Ron Wilson of Noblesville, Linda and husband Kenneth Edmondson of Stillwater, Okla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Elmer and Jack Johnson; five grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sharpsville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard E. Lyth will officiate. Burial will be in Sharpsville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Church. Services are provided by Boyer Funeral Home in Sharpsville.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Sharpsville United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.

Wendell W. Jackson
Wendell W. Jackson, 68, Elwood, died Aug. 21, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 16, 1940 in Elwood, he was the son of Ralph and Gladys (Minniear) Jackson.
He was a 1958 graduate of Anderson High School and served five years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict where he traveled abroad.
He worked for Delco Remy in Anderson for 30 years before retiring in 1997 where he worked as a millwright.
He enjoyed playing the Hoosier Lottery and playing cards with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandpa and loved to watch his grandchlldren play football and baseball where he was their biggest fan.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Arpie (Clemons) Jackson, whom he married Nov. 6, 1965; three sons, Marka Clemons of Elwood, Stephen Jackson of Fort Wayne and Jerry Jackson of Elwood; mother-in-law, Polly Jackson of Elwood; seven brothers, Robert “Bud” and wife, Verna Jackson of Elwood, Jim Jackson of Elwood, Alvy and wife, Kathy Jackson of Kokomo, Melvin Jackson of Anderson, Claude Jackson of Elwood, Harry Friggle of Anderson and Larry Friggle of Anderson; two sisters, Thelma Gossage of New Castle and Doris Stover of Elkhart; two half sisters, Jenny Dietzer of Elwood and Joan Smith of Elwood; three sisters-in-law, Carrie and husband, Ed Cox of Kokomo, Jennie and husband, Terry Crull of Frankton and Treva Duncan of Elwood; a brother-in-law, Steve Simmons of Elwood; seven grandchildren, Nicholas DePaolo, Justin Jackson, Garrett Jackson, Katie Clemons, Blake Jackson, Owen Jackson and Morgan Clemons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Jackson; a sister, Josephine Idlewine; half brother, Ralph Jackson Jr.; two half-sisters, June Smith and Jane Huffman; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Hunt and Helen Simmons; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Gossage and Mark Duncan.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, with the Rev. Matt Miller of Central Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family of Wendell Jackson would like to thank St. John’s Hospice, his brother, Bud Jackson for all the driving that was done, and Heidi Idlewine for all the care she gave to Wendell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.

Brian J. Thomas
Brian “BT” J. Thomas, 34, of Elwood, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008.
He was born Aug. 16, 1974 in Indianapolis to George Thomas and the late Barbara (Klein) Thomas.
He is survived by his father, George Thomas of Elwood; a son, Brayton Thomas of Elwood; a stepson, James McCartey; uncles, Ron and Elaine Klein of Elwood and Don and Marlene Klein of Anderson; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Thomas and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, with Rich Leavell officiating. Burial will follow at the Elwood City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Elijah Thomas Benefiel
NOBLESVILLE – Elijah Thomas Benefiel, 6 months, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at his home in Noblesville.
Born Feb. 19, 2008 in Anderson, he was the son of Amos Christopher Benefiel and Alison Ruth Thomas. They survive.
He is also survived by a brother, Hayden Christopher Benefiel of Noblesville; his grandparents, Shannon Thomas, Tim Thomas, Roy and Joyce Benefiel and Julie Grimes; his great-grandparents, Ted and Rita Shoufler, Jack and Diana Branam, Don and Carol Thomas, Tom and Wanda Benefiel and Mike and Debbie Harrison; and his great-great-grandparents, Hazel Sebastian and Paul Oakes.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel. The Rev. Robert Bell will officiate. Burial will follow at Carey Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hartley Funeral Homes to assist the family, P.O. Box 407, Cicero, IN 46034.

Sharon Ann Gardner
MUNCIE – Sharon Ann Gardner, 63, of Muncie, died Aug. 24, 2008, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born May 3, 1945, in Elwood, the daughter of Farrel Herbert and Mary Ann (Reynolds) Gardner.
Survivors include a sister, Ida Mae Sizelove of Elwood; a brother, Tim Gardner of Alexandria and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Owens Funeral Home in Alexan-dria, with Chaplin Ron Forsythe of New Hope Hospice officiating. Burial will be in Knox Chapel Cemetery in Fairmount.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Hospice through the funeral home.

Karl R. Ritter
Karl R. Ritter, 64, of Lapel, died Monday at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Dunnichay Funeral Home.

William J. (Bill) Myers
William J. Myers, 56, Tipton and formerly of Huntington, died at 6:54 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as a result of a train/car accident.
Born Sept. 30, 1951 in Huntington, he was the son of John William and Alberta Marie Teusch Myers. They preceded him in death.
He was the manager of Huntington Lumber Yard for 30 years.
He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Huntington and the American Legion in Tipton.
He is survived by two sons, Cory and wife Denise Renee Myers of Huntington and William Myers Jr. of Huntington; one daughter, Kelly Myers of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, Brinleigh and Aven Myers, Ashley Sickler, Madison Bruner, Gabe and Skylar Ironmonger and Levi and Ashley Sowders; his fiancee, Patty Jones of Tipton and a sister, Paula Phend of New Haven.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Julianna Alberta Myers, who died in 2007, and one sister, Sharon Kay Thomas.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington. Fr. Ron Rieder will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington.
Calling will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home in Huntington.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Myers family in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Marjorie M. Fritz
DELPHI – Marjorie M. Ellis Fritz, 82, Delphi, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at her residence. She had been in ill health during the past year.
She was born Nov. 13, 1925 in Wayne Co. to the late Harry and Nola Beech Ellis. On Nov. 16, 1947, she married Jim M. Fritz in Hagerstown. He survives.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1943. She worked at the former Perfect Circle Piston Ring Factory in Hagerstown, and while living in Galveston, she worked in the cafeteria at the elementary school there. She was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir. The wife of a Methodist minister, she was extremely active at all of the churches she and her husband pastored. She also volunteered at the Tipton Hospital for more than 10 years. She and her husband moved to Delphi in 2005, they formerly lived in Tipton for 10 years. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and other countries. Going on several mission trips to Africa, Haiti and Jamaica. She enjoyed sewing, playing the organ and music.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Nola and husband Jerry Clawson of Delphi; a son, Ken and Gail Fritz of rural Tipton; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi. The Rev. Todd Ladd will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials contributions may be made to the Delphi United Methodist Church, or Serenity Hospice, envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Marjorie L. Shock
VEVAY – Marjorie L. (Elston) Shock, 82, Vevay, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospice in Indianapolis.
Born Dec.21, 1925 in Ripley County near Cross Plains, she was the daughter of Harley Elston and Goldie May (Morrison) Elston. On Sept. 29, 1945, she married Gene R. Shock. He preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2004.
She retired in 1985 as matron for Taylor High School after 21 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Sterling Baptist Church.
She is survived by four sons, Anthony Shock of Indianapolis, Daniel Shock of Vevay, Randall Shock of Jacksonville, Fla. and Jonathan Shock of Pendleton; a daughter, Linette Shock of Vevay; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers, Ruben, George and Ralph Elston.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry St., Vevay. The Rev. Mike Sawalich will officiate. Burial will be in Slawson Cemetery in Bennington.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Sterling Baptist Church. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
