Donald D. Davis
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Donald D. Davis, 91, of Clearwater, and formerly of Elwood, passed away Aug. 18, 2008, at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park.
He moved to Clearwater in 1968 from Elwood.
He served in the United States Army in World War II.
He was self-employed as a Scenic Mural Unlimited Artist.
He was a life member of the Elwood Elks Lodge and a member of the American Legion and First Christian Church in Clearwater.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen; two grandsons, Don and Darren Fields of Clearwater and a sister, Opal Cooper of Port Richey.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Fields, of Elwood.
There will be a memorial service at the First Christian Church, 2299 Drew St., Clearwater, Fla. 33765 at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008.
The Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Clearwater is handling arrangements.

Richard Leroy Elliott
ATLANTA – Richard Leroy Elliott, 81, Atlanta, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton.
Born Aug. 31, 1927 in Kennard, he was the son of Fred and Selma Maude (White) Elliott. On Aug. 9, 1950, he married Lois Evelyn Moore. She survives.
He was a 1947 graduate of Kennard High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He first worked at the Chrysler auto manufacturing plant in New Castle. he then farmed and owned Elliott’s Harness and Tack Shop on U.S. 31 near Atlanta for 25 years.
He was a member of Cicero Seventh Day Adventist Church and Cicero V.R.W. Post 8756.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Ronald Eugene Elliott of Anderson and Jerry Lee Elliott of Middletown, Md.; a daughter, Annette McLamb of Elwood; a brother, Donald Elliott of Middletown; his twin sister, Wanda Elliott; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cicero Seventh Day Adventist Church. Pastor Paul Yeoman will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery near Arcadia.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday prior to services.
Hartley Funeral Homes Arcadia Chapel is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, c/o Hartley Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 476, Arcadia, IN 46030.

Arthur E. Jackson
NOBLESVILLE – Arthur Eugene “Gene” Jackson, 92, Noblesville, and a former Kempton resident, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born in Tipton County on July 13, 1916, to Andrew and Marie (Spaulding) Jackson.
He married Rachel Hinkle, March 12, 1938 in Tipton. She preceded him in death, July 20, 1992.
Gene lived his entire life in the Kempton area. He retired from Standard Oil of Indiana in 1976 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II serving in Europe where he was awarded two Bronze Stars for meritorious service in Central Europe and Rhineland along with other distinctions such as Rifle SS and TSMG Expert. He was a member of the Kempton Christian Church, the Valley of Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Austin Lodge No. 128, Tipton.
Gene is survived by one daughter, Katie Jackson Myers and husband, Clarence of Fishers; three grandchildren, Kristen Myers LaGoy and husband, Thomas of Louisville, Andrew Myers and wife, Laurie of Fishers and Rebecca Myers of Indianapolis; a great-grandson, Kade Andrew Myers; one sister, Helen Elliott and husband, Robert of Largo, Fla. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton. Burial will follow in Kempton Cemetery with military honors.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 6415 Castleway West Drive, Suite 114, Indiana-polis, Ind. 46250, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., Suite B-4, Indianapolis, Ind. 46209.

Blanche M. Pierce
ALEXANDRIA – Blanche M. “Tiny” Pierce, 82, of Alexandria, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Katies Key to Care in Yorktown.
She was born May 28, 1926 to Herbert and Nelllie (Henry) O’Dell.
She was a 1944 graduate of Alexandria High School.
She was employed at Hooks Drugs for 22 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Leah Semon of Alexandria and Claudia Miller of Alexandria; three sons, Marc Pierce of Alexandria, Robert A. Pierce of Alexandria and Chris Pierce of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert F. Pierce who died June 11, 2005; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 at Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria, with Dr. Joyce Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alexandria First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.

Glenda O. Slate, 82, of Elwood, died early today at the Rawlins House in Pendleton.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.

Sarah Cobb
Sarah “Betty” Cobb, 82, of Elwood, died today at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Dunnichay Funeral Home.

William Q. Frazier
William Q. “Bill Frazier, 89, of Elwood, died Monday at St.Vincent Mercy Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
Mary Jones
Mary Jones, 86, formerly of Elwood, died Monday at the Rawlins House in Pendleton.
Funeral services are pending at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.

Barbara A. Smith
Barbara A. Smith, 68, of Elwood, died early today at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Dunnichay Funeral Home.

Maurice J. Pierce
ALEXANDRIA – Maurice J. “Maury” Pierce, 79, of Alexandria, died Sept. 1, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria.

Joyce Montgomery
ALEXANDRIA – Joyce Montgomery, 84, of Alexandria, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at her residence.
She was born April 20, 1924, in Alexandria, the daughter of Harry and Manda (Jarrel) Brenner.
She worked at Delco Remy, formerly of Anderson, for more than eight years. She was a member of Omega Nu Tau for 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy B. Montgomery, whom she married June 30, 1946; a daughter, Jan Eliason of Peru; a son, Timothy Montgomery of Alexandria; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Joe Brenner, Jack Brenner, Charles Brenner, James Brenner and Donald Brenner; a sister, Rita Brenner and a niece.
Private funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at the Noffze Funeral Home in Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Young officiating. Private interment followed in Vinson Memorial Cemetery in Summitville.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospice, 2015 Jackson St., Anderson, Ind. 46016.

James B. Starr
ALEXANDRIA – James B. “Jim” Starr, 52, of Alexandria, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at St. John’s Medical Center in Anderson.
He was born Sept. 28, 1955, in Anderson, the son of William Starr Sr. and Mary (Jones) Starr Shipp.
He attended Madison-Grant High School with the Class of 1974.
He worked for Cullen & Stone Service Station in Summitville for several years. On Aug. 1, 1987, he purchased the business and began operating as Starr Auto Repair until 2002. He was currently employed at R&R Engineering in Summitville.
Survivors include his wife, Christy (Salyers) Starr; two daughters, McKenzie Starr and Brandy Widener, of Alexandria; two granddaughters; his mother, Mary Shipp of Summitville; four brothers, William Starr Jr. of Hartford City, Robert Starr of Marion and Ron Starr and Eugene Shipp, both of Summitville; two sisters, Susan Barton of Summitville and Elizabeth Rohrer-York of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Eugene Shipp; and a brother, Daniel Shipp.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Owens-Noffze Funeral Home in Summitville, with the Rev. Larry Waters officiating. Cremation will follow with private interment of cremains in Forrestville Cemetery in Boone Township.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Cancer Center through the funeral home.
