Rosetta J. Roe
Rosetta J. Roe, 79, of Elwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton.
She was born July 1, 1929, in Elwood, the daughter of the late Fred Jackson and the late Bernice (Cunningham) Jackson.
Rosetta was a homemaker, and a member of the Main Street Wesleyan Church of Elwood. She was also a Red Cross volunteer, a Girl Scout leader and had worked as a QMA for Visiting Nurse in Noblesville.
She enjoyed the outdoor nature, watching birds, going fishing at the lakes, taking trips and she had a great love for music.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Roe, whom she married June 22, 1996; three daughters, Wanda and husband, Robert Ullom of Huntington, Becky and husband, James Luttrell of Valloina, and Brenda and husband, David Blanton of Elwood; three sons, David and wife, Linda Green, Dennis and wife, Connie Green and Mike and wife, Tammy Green, all of Elwood; 12 grandchildren, James Green, Christina Edwards, Matt Green, Amber Ramos, Ashley McClish, Eric LaShure, Joshua Blanton and Leora Henderson, all of Elwood, Amy Earl of Tipton, Thomas Ullom of Fort Wayne, Megan Green of Anderson and Amanda Tobby of Valloina; 15 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Bailey Green, Jasmin Ramos, Addison McClish, Colten and Ishea LaShure, Aliyah, Dylan and Caleb Henderson, Alexis and Sierra Edwards, all of Elwood, Morgan and Macey Earl of Tipton and Holden and Abigail Tobby of Valloina; three sisters, Martha and husband, Charles Murdock, Surandra and husband, Jim Goodpaster and Colleen Berry, all of Marion; two brothers, Walter Jackson of Elwood and Vernon Jackson of Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Kenneth E. Green; a daughter, Kathy Green and grandson, Daniel E. Ullom.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, with the Revs. Ron Becker and Jim Snapp officiating. Burial will be at the Arcadia Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Association or the Cancer Association.

Orval G. Wilson
DALEVILLE – Orval G. “Slats” Wilson, 89, of Daleville, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was born Sept. 26, 1919 in Stamping Ground, Ky., the son of Orval Baker and Mabel Clyre Brombeck Wilson.
He retired from Howe Fire Apparatus in Anderson and worked TB and P Trucking and Dawsons Sheet Metal.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of the Daleville Masonic Lodge for 50 years serving as worshipful master in 1962. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Daleville and the Order of Eastern Star, serving as worthy patron in 1987.
He served as a board member of the Saunders Cemetery Association since 1985.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lillian Frances (Costerison) of Daleville; three children, Daniel M. Wilson of Huntington, Diana K. Martin of Fort Wayne and Terresa G. Smliey of Elwood; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Harold Wilson and one sister, Geneva Gourley.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at the Daleville United Methodist Church with Pastor Judy Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Saunders Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Daleville. Eastern Star services begin at 6 p.m. and Masonic services at 8 p.m. Friends may also call one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Daleville or the charity of the donors choice.

Naomi P. (Alder) Kelley
Naomi P. (Alder) Kelley, 89, formerly of Elwood, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter in Abbeville, Ala.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.

William A. Hunter
SUMMITVILLE – William A. “Bill” Hunter, 84, of Summitville, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at Community Hospital in Anderson from complications following surgery.
He was born Sept. 3, 1924 in Markleville, the son of Clinton A. and Esta (Bowers) Hunter.
He had resided in the Summitville area since 1957.
Bill was a 1942 graduate of Middletown High School and also a graduate of the Indiana Barber College in Indianapolis.
He served with the United States Army during World War II. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was a bronze star recipient.
He owned and operated Hunter’s Barber Shop at the corner of Fifth and Madison in Anderson for 50 years, retiring in 1999.
Bill was a former member of the First Christian Church in Sum-mitville where he served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and on several committees. He was currently a member of the First Christian Church in Alexandria.
He was a 50 year member of the Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge.
Bill enjoyed recreational walking and was an active member of the Mounds Mall walker’s club.
He and his wife have been active supporters of Summitville, Madison-Grant and Alexandria athletics for a number of years.
Bill enjoyed automobile racing, going as far back as the Armscamp Speedway, formerly of Alexandria and as recent as the Indianapolis 500. For years, Bill and Barbara traveled with friends for their annual trip to the Cincinnati Reds game.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Ogden) Hunter, whom he married Aug. 15, 1948; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne and husband, David Burwick of Grand Ledge, Mich.; a son, Rob and wife, Melanie Hunter of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Julie and husband, Mike Boruta of Lansing, Mich. and Joshua Burwick of Lansing, Mich.; two stepgrandchildren, Joshua and wife, Katie Kearns serving in the United States Air Force in Germany and Ethan Kearns of Eugene, Ore.; a great-granddaughter, Addison Elizabeth Boruta of Lansing, Mich.; stepgreat-granddaughter, Penelope Ann Kearns; a brother, Dallas and wife, Diane Hunter of Middletown; three sisters, Mary Banks of Anderson, Ethel Mae and husband, Paul Kendall of Middletown and Ivy Hochstedler of Knightstown; five nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wilbur Bowers Hunter and a sister, Natha Lee Burlison.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Alexandria, with Pastor Lyn Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Cemetery in Summitville with military honors provided by the Elwood VFW Post 5782 Honors Team.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Owens Noffze Funeral Home in Summitville and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alexandria First Christian Church through the funeral home.

Douglass L. Boyer
Douglass L. Boyer, 49, of Anderson, and formerly of Elwood, died Feb. 17, 2009 at Edgewater Woods Healthcare in Anderson after a brief illness.
He was born March 9, 1959 in Elwood.
He was a 1977 graduate of Elwood Community High School and was a veteran of the National Guard.
He formerly worked as a fork lift operator at Donnelly & Sons Company in Warsaw for several years.
He was a member of the East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR racing, hot rod cars and motorcycles. He was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include his father, Herman Loren Boyer of Elwood; two sisters, Debra and husband, Jim Morrow of Elwood and Diana “Dee” and husband, Tom Ricker of Deerfield, N.H.; three nieces, Tricia Holmes of Elwood, Jamie Preston of Elwood and Nichelle and husband, Mike Young of New Hampshire; a nephew, Raymond and wife, Sumalee Ricker of New York; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Patricia “Pat” (Laster) Boyer.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at the First Church of God, 1929 S. J St., with the Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
There will be no visitation.

Verlin Phipps
ALEXANDRIA – Verlin “Joe” Phipps, 73, of Alexandria, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born June 24, 1935 in Bicco, Ky., the son of Raymond and Maudie (Jenkins) Phipps.
He resided in Warsaw for several years, returning to Alexandria in 2004.
He retired from Dalton Found-ries in Warsaw in 1999 after 22 years. He had previously worked at Johns-Manville Corporation, formerly of Alexandria.
He attended the Full Gospel Center in Milford for several years.
Joe enjoyed flower gardening, helping people and talking about his Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Tonda (Knotts) Phipps, whom he married May 12, 1973; four sons, David Phipps, Joey Phipps, Kevin Phipps, all of Summitville; and Tony and wife, Reiney Phipps of Elwood; a daughter, Tina Phipps of Gas City; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and an infant sister.
Funeral services will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria, with Pastor David Kyle of the Aroma United Methodist Church officiating. Interment of cremains will take place in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with expenses.

Pauline W. Wheeler
TIPTON – Pauline W. Wheeler, 95, Tipton, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at her home.
She was born April 30, 1913 in Lyndonville, Vt., the daughter of Fred and Luthera (Carleton) Wilcox.
She graduated from West Lebanon High School and the Bay Path Institute in Springfield, Mass.
She married William R. Chase in 1934. He died in 1942. She married Scott F. Chamberlin in 1949. He died in 1962. She married Sidney P. Wheeler in 1966. He died in 2007.
She worked for Selective Service n Lebanon, Vt. from 1942 to 1946. She worked at the Veterans Administration in White River Junction, Vt.. from 1946 to 1978 when she retired.
She was a member of the Vigilant Circle of the Kings Daughters & Sons, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a member of the Lebanon Chapter.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth A. Naden of Tipton; four grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carleton, Luther and Harlan Wilcox and a sister, Luthera Guptill.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Tipton City Park. Burial will take place in the West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon, N.H.
Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
