Infant Dalton Schmidt
Dalton Benjamin Schmidt, died at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.
He is survived by his parents, Ben and Beth Schmidt of Evansville; grandparents, Dennis and Nancy Schmidt of Evansville; grandparents, Larry and Lillian Boehringer of Carmi, Ill.; great-grandparents, Alvin and Luella Schmidt of Haubstadt, Ind.; and his great-grandmothers, Mary Smith of Evansville and Ruby Daniel of Carmi, Ill.
There will be no visitation at Alexander North Chapel in Evansville, where arrangements are being handled. Memorial services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Evansville on Thursday, January 31, at 1 p.m., Rev. Robert King officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Catherine Scruggs
Catherine L. Scruggs, 82, of Evansville, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at her home of a heart attack.
Catherine was a lifelong resident of Evansville, a member of Zion Baptist Church, very active in the food bank and served many years as captain of the Women's Day Committee.
She and her late husband, William Scruggs, were great jazz enthusiasts. She was an avid gardener and cook.
Catherine is survived by 3 godchildren, Ileana Robinson of Dallas, Texas, Vera Whitfield of Cinncinnati, Ohio, and Charles Towler of Indianapolis; and her caregivers, Eva Holland and Constance "Connie" Robinson.
Funeral services will be at Zion Baptist Church on Friday at 1 p.m., the Rev. Dr. R.V. Terry officiating, with a wake service from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Zion Baptist Church. Friends may call at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
Allen West
Allen "A.J." West, 73, of Evansville, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital at St. Mary's Med- ical Center from cancer.
He retired as owner and operator of Home Services by Allen J. West. He was a retired veteran of the United States Army. He attended Melody Hill Free Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rita West; 2 daughters, Raquel West of Evansville, Kimberly West of Indianapolis; 3 sons, Kevin West of Dexter, Mich., and Randy and Ragon Gregg, both of Evansville, a brother, Shirley West of Chandler, a sister, Margie Smith of Greencastle; and 7 grandchildren; Ragon Jr., Randy Jr., Kelsie, Ashley and Rachael Gregg, Eric Decker Jr. and Tyler West.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2002, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, Rev. John Lefler will be officiating.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. and continued on Thursday, January 31, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Park Lawn Cemetery
where the Retired Veterans will conduct graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital or to Melody Hill Free Methodist Church.
Mary Yurosko
Mary Elliott Yurosko, 74, of Nampa, Idaho, formerly of Henderson, Ky., died Monday, Dec. 31, 2002, at her home.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Clegg and Cecelia Ashinhurst; two sons, Jack and Michael; and a sister, Dean Schaefer of Evansville.
Arrangements were handled by Alsip-Persons Funeral Home in Nampa, with burial there.
Martha Corn
HOLLAND - Martha Lovella Corn, 46, died Sunday, January, 27, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville due to a cere- bral hemorrhage.
She was born on May 28, 1955 in Jasper, Indiana, to Lester and Ruth (Burlingame) Mann. She was united in marriage to Roger Corn on December 24, 1985. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Boone Township and was a graduate of Vincennes University. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amanda Corn.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Corn of Holland; two sons, Ryan Morton and his wife, Holly, of Ferdinand, and Chad Morton and his wife, Amy, of Holland; a stepson and daughter, Chris Corn and his wife, Samantha, of Holland, and Alicia Corn of Jasper; two sisters, Linda and her husband, Bruce Selb, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Becky Mann and her significant other, Cheryl Halter, of Indianapolis; her parents, Lester and Ruth Mann of Ireland, Ind.; 3 stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Martha Corn will be held at 11 a.m. EST Thursday, January 31, 2002, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Boone Township, with burial to follow in the Augusta Cemetery
in Augusta, Indiana. The Rev. Bryant Haney will officiate the funeral service.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2 to 8 p.m. EST today and at St. John's Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral service.
Henry Daum
ROME - Henry L. Daum, 50, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Owensboro (Ky.) Mercy Health System.
He retired from the safe company in Cannelton.
Surviving are his wife, Debbie; two daughters, Jody Schaad and Amber Daum; his mother, Clara Belle Foerster; three sisters, Judy Taylor, Melody Harding and Tina Foerster; two brothers, Danny and Tommy; and a grandson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Seventh Street Baptist Church in Cannelton, with burial in New Cliff Cemetery
there. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Huber Funeral Home.
William Greenwell
WASHINGTON - William T. "Bill" Greenwell, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Washington Nursing Center.
He was in the shoe repair business.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Donna Reel; and three stepgrandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Thursday at St. Simon Catholic Church, with burial in St. John Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a wake service at 4:30 p.m., a 6 p.m. memorial service and a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Ed Lee Mortuary.
Ralph Jochem
ST. HENRY - Ralph Jochem, 66, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at his home of complications of cancer.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen; two daughters, Janet Vonderheide and Lisa Striegel; three sons, Mark, Kevin and Robert; a sister, Frances Knies; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
Randy Johnson
HUNTINGBURG - Randy Johnson, 44, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper of can- cer.
He was born on September 1, 1957, in Huntingburg to Donald and Barb Aline (Resenbeck) Johnson. He was united in marriage to Theresa Gadlage on July 25, 1993, at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntingburg. He was an employee of the Kimball Jasper Furniture plant for the last 25 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Haysville and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Huntingburg. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah (Voegerl) Johnson, who died in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Johnson of Huntingburg; six children, Samantha Johnson, Dylan Johnson and Holly Johnson, all at home, Alisha (Staggs) Hunter of Holland, Ind., Andy Staggs of New Albany, Ind., and Matt Gehlhausen of Jasper; his parents, Donald and Barb Aline Johnson of Huntingburg; two sisters, Kimberly Epple of Jasper and Sherry Merkley of Huntingburg; his foster grandmother, Lena Seitz of Jasper; and by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Randy Johnson will be held at 10 a.m. EST Friday, February 1, 2002, at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntingburg, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery
in Huntingburg. The Rev. Mike Brown will officiate the funeral service.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from noon to 8 p.m. EST Thursday and at Grace Lutheran Church one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday morning.
Betty Jane Pierce
BOONVILLE - Betty Jane Pierce, 73, died Monday evening at the St. Mary's Warrick Hospital.
She was a housewife, enjoyed quilting, making doll cloths and ceramics. She also enjoyed baby-sitting her grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Bob "Frank" Pierce of Boonville; two daughters, Cathy Jones of Boonville and Rosalie Acker of Bloomington; one brother, George Ossman of Texas; two grandchildren, Dustin Jones and Jenny Jones-West; and three great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her mother, Gladys Ambrose. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Bradley's Colonial Chapel in Boonville, with burial in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Ronald Rowekamp
JASPER - Ronald J. Rowekamp, 62, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., of complications of surgery.
He worked at Inwood Office Furniture Company in Jasper and served in the Navy 1957 thru 1961 aboard the USS Essex.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the church. He served as an usher and served on St. Joseph parish council.
He coached and managed little league, pony league baseball and girls softball in Jasper for many years.
He was born in Jasper, Indiana, on November 13, 1939, the son of Robert and Ardella (Schuetter) Rowekamp. He married Ruth Steffe on June 23, 1962 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth; 2 daughters, Mrs. Kirk "Lynn" Miller and Mrs. Joe "Jill" Helfrich, both of Newburgh; 4 grandchildren, Wil and Sam Miller and Leanne and Jacob Helfrich; and 2 sisters, Betty Englert and Margie Gadlage, both of Jasper.
Funeral services for Ronald Rowekamp will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2002, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery
in Jasper.
Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
