Myrtle Wilcox

Myrtle Margaret (DeVillez) Wilcox, 89, of Evansville, died Sunday at Regina Continuing Care.

She retired in 1977 as a nurse at Parkview Convalescent Home.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and a 1933 graduate of the St. Mary School of Nursing.

Surviving are a nephew who cared for her, Mike DeVillez of Bowling Green, Ky.; and other nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Roy, died in 1968.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, with entombment in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home, where memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Chester Zuber

Chester John Zuber, 88, of Evansville, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of cancer.

He retired as a foreman at Mesker Steel in 1978. He was formerly a welder at Cook’s Brewery and he was a certified welder and foreman at the Evansville Shipyards during World War II.

He was a 60-year member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 51 during the 1950s and 1960s. He was a fisherman.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Dora Ann (Collier); a son, Chester Lee of Evansville; a sister, Vivian Lemon of Kirkwood, Mo.; three grandchildren, Annette Schofield, Michelle Hamilton and Chester K. Zuber; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three stepgrandchildren, Kristy Peeler and Kerry and Keith Wilkinson; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

A son, Donald Ray, died in 1967.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, the Rev. Michael Allen and the church pastoral team officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m.

Michael Glenn

Michael P. Glenn, 49, of Evansville, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, in Franklin, Ky., of a heart attack.

He worked at Alcoa for 24 years.

He was a 1969 graduate of Castle High School and a bowler, fisherman and camper.

Surviving are his wife, Krista; two daughters, Michelle R. Glenn of Poseyville, Ind., and Andria Leigh Glenn of Evansville; a son, Christian Patrick; his parents, Glenward and Maxine Glenn of Richland, Ind.; a sister, Jacquelyn Avery of Richland; three brothers, Steven and Mark, both of Richland, and Paul of San Pedro, Calif.; two grandmothers, Agnes Glenn of Cannelton, Ind., and Grace B. Mueller of Tell City, Ind.; two grandchildren, Brian Paul and Brianne Leigh Glenn; nieces and nephews; and a caregiver, Kris Glenn.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel, the Rev. Edward Schnur officiating, with burial in St. Michaels cemetery in Cannelton.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donald Conaway

Donald M. Conaway, 18, of Evansville, died Monday of injuries suffered in a traffic accident.

He was a North High School graduate and had recently joined the Army.

Surviving are his parents, John and Cindy Conaway of Evansville; a sister, Amber Conaway of Evansville; a brother, Christopher of Charleston, S.C.; and grandparents, Dean and Margie Pahls of Salina, Kan.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel.

Memorial visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Catherine Wilrich

Catherine Thomas Wilrich, 67, formerly of Evansville, died July 18 at her home in Oakland, Calif., of cancer.

She was a retired nurse and a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church in Henderson, Ky., and Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, James; a sister, Georgia Mae Emery of Evansville; two nieces who cared for her, Mary C. Thomas of Indianapolis and Gay L. Emery of Evansville; and other nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Baptist Church, the Rev. Adrian Brooks officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel.

Louise Overton

Louise A. Overton, 83, died Monday, July 24, 2000, of heart failure at the home of Cathy Condi, a niece who cared for her.

She was a custodian with the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp.

She attended St. James United Methodist West Church.

Also surviving are a sister, Virginia Lee McGraw of Evansville; a nephew who cared for her, David Blum of Evansville; and other nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Alvis, died in 1970.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, the Rev. Jim Elliott officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice.

LeRoy ‘Woody’ Woodward

LeRoy “Woody” Woodward, 72, of Evansville, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of kidney failure.

He worked at Chrysler Corp. and at Alcoa from 1962 to 1976. He retired from Home Interiors & Gifts in 1989.

He was president of Alcoa Labor Union 104 for five years and a 40-year member of Calvary Temple Church.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, LaVeda (Martin); a daughter, Judy Faith Marshall of Evansville; two grandchildren, Erin Melissa Roper and Ryan Austin Marshall; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Temple Church, the Rev. Bill Nichols officiating, with burial in Union Ridge cemetery in New Haven, Ill.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the church.

Donna Bryant

Donna M. Bryant, 62, of Evansville, died Sunday at Deaconess Hospital of heart failure.

She worked at Swift’s in Jasper for 13 years.

She was Baptist.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Blanchard of Evansville; her mother, Imelda Blackburn of Jasper; two sisters, Doris Marts and Imelda Ruth Bromm, both of Indianapolis; a brother, Estel Sarver of Evansville; and three grandchildren, Kurt Bromm, Kacey Wilbanks and Kaylen Blanchard.

Her husband, Eugene, died in 1980.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Maxine Nordhorn

PETERSBURG — Maxine V. Nordhorn, 78, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Amber Manor Nursing Home of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge.

There are no immediate survivors. Her husband, Herman, died in 1999.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Hills cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jerome Schlachter

FERDINAND — Jerome L. Schlachter, 64, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville of a stroke.

He retired from the Dubois County Highway Department and from farming.

He was a Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Post 124.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; a daughter, Karen Seitz of Jasper; four sons, Mike, Mark, John and Rob, all of Ferdinand; four sisters, Sister Leona Schlachter of Ferdinand, Janice Durcholz and Gloria Keusch, both of Jasper, and Victoria Wahl of Huntingburg; 12 grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery, where American Legion Post 124 will conduct military rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home, where parish prayer services will be at 7:30 p.m.

Victor Wakeland

BICKNELL — Victor M. Wakeland, 86, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Gentle Care of Vincennes.

He retired as owner of Vic’s Garage and had worked for Thompson Chevrolet.

He was a World War II Air Force veteran and a member of Edwardsport Masonic Lodge. He restored antique motorcycles.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma (Duffey); two daughters, Barbara Dillon of Bicknell and Vickie Borg of Solsberry; three grandchildren, David Wayne Dillon, Marc Massie and Kristine Ryan; and two great-granddaughters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel, with burial in Sandborn cemetery, where Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3190 will conduct military rites.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
