Mozelle Farquhar

CANNELTON — Mozelle A. Farquhar, 93, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City.

She retired from the former Tell City Chair Co.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty J. Maxey of Cannelton; a son, William of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Vicki Brumfield, Pam Hess, Barbara Rudolph, Terri Mosby, Eric Maxey, Cindy Medlyn, Sandy Biggs and Joe Farquhar; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph W., died in 1986.

Services will be at noon Thursday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in New Cliff cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Huber Funeral Home Cannelton Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Helen Cullum

Helen (McCarty) Cullum, 71, of Evansville, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of cancer.

She worked as a controller with Woll Enterprises.

She was past board member of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Guild, and past president of Tri-State Desk and Derrick Association.

She was a member and former deacon of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

She was a booster of Memorial High School football, basketball and baseball, the Notre Dame fencing team and the Purdue football team and a past booster of Harrison High School football, track and cross country teams and Amateur Athletic Union swimming in Indiana.

Surviving are her daughter, Becky Meador of Evansville; two sons, Guy Wayne Price of New Harmony, Ind., and Thomas D. Cullum of Evansville; a sister, Doris Reynolds of New Harmony; nine grandchildren, Jason, Amanda and Zach Cullum, Nikki and Courtney Price, Richard and Angie Bennett, Codi Parker and Donnie Austin; two great-grandchildren; a friend who cared for her, Herb Reynolds of Stewartsville, Ind.; and a niece and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, Jason Cullum officiating, with burial in Maple Hill cemetery in New Harmony.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Joseph Scheller

Joseph W. Scheller, 73, of Evansville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital from complications of Hodgkins lymphoma.

He had owned the Towerlite Restaurant before retiring in 1988.

He was a World War II veteran and past commander of American Legion Post 8, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2953 and past Chef de Guerre of the 40 & 8. He was a member of Riverbend Association, Knight of St. John and a Kentucky Colonel.

He enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph W. III of Fort Myers, Fla., and Stephen G. of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, James W. and John A., both of Evansville; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Kirsten Scheller.

His wife, Doris (Buckman), died in 1979.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery. There will be no visitation at Pierre Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

W.A. Schmidt

W.A. “Bill” Schmidt, 94, formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Christian Health Center in Hopkinsville, Ky.

He owned and operated The Jordan Furniture Co. in Hopkinsville, retiring in 1974. In Evansville, he had worked for the Newman-Johnson Co. in the bookkeeping and drafting department and for the Ferguson-Sherman Plow Co. as shipping clerk.

He received his degree in accounting and secretarial science from the Porter School of Commerce.

He served three years on the Hopkinsville City Council, was appointed to the Fort Campbell Military Affairs Committee, was a member of Kiwanis Club for more than 59 years and held several offices.

He was the recipient of many awards, including the Spirit of Kiwanis, was named a Kentucky Colonel by four governors and a Kentucky Admiral by Gov. Nunn, and in 1992, he received the Herb Hayes Golden Service Award.

He was a 65-year Mason, serving as master and 12 years as treasurer, had been exalted ruler of the Elks, and director of the Royal Order of Jesters. He helped organize the Hopkinsville Shrine Club.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical United Church of Christ in Evansville and a 57-year member of First United Methodist Church in Hopkinsville.

Surviving are a son, William Thomas of Ormond Beach, Fla.; four granddaughters; and nieces and nephews. His wife of 56 years, Lura (Cannon), died in 1986.

Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville handled arrangements, with burial in Riverside cemetery in Hopkinsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church in Hopkinsville, Kiwanis Youth & Children’s Foundation or a favorite charity.

Michael Burdette

Michael D. Burdette, 34, of Evansville, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home. The Vanderburgh County coroner is investigating.

He worked for Arab Pest Control.

He was a graduate of North High School, where he pitched for the baseball team and was quarterback for the football team. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are three daughters, Macy, Kendyl and Kaitlynn Burdette, all of Evansville; his mother, Jane Burdette of Evansville; his father and stepmother, Harry and Sheila Burdette of Evansville; a sister, Monica Burdette Barker of Evansville; a stepsister, Christa Bruning of Evansville; his grandmother, Rachel Altheide; his fiancee, Rebecca Buhmeier of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, the Rev. Kent Fahl officiating, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to N Men’s Club at North High School.

Eloise Derrick

Eloise Derrick, 84, of Evansville, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at CORE Nursing & Rehabilitation.

She was a member of the Islamic Center of Evansville.

She was a quilt maker.

Surviving are a son, Khaalid Rashaad of Evansville; a sister, Helen Byrd of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two grandchildren, Howard Fydgor Matthews and Bruceann King; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Private Islamic graveside services will be in Park Lawn cemetery. There will be no visitation at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Islamic Center of Evansville.

Richard Lancaster

Richard A. “Rick Hendricks” Lancaster, 42, formerly of Evansville, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in St. Clair Shores, Mich., of heart failure.

He was a metal finisher and an Army veteran.

He enjoyed all sports and was a hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are his wife, Hope; two daughters, Charlotte and Future, both of St. Clair Shores; two sons, David Lee of Evansville and Randall “Randy” of St. Clair Shores; his parents, Ernie and Charlotte Hendricks; a sister, Page; eight brothers, Ernie, Anthony, Gary, Cory, Jesse, John, Ryan, and Taylor; and his grandmother, Merrell Jones.

Kaul Funeral Home in St. Clair Shores, Mich., handled the arrangements. Burial was in White Chapel cemetery in Troy, Mich.

John Jackson

John Edward Jackson, 54, of Evansville, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in Henderson, Ky. His death is under the Henderson County coroner’s investigation.

He had worked at Alcoa Warrick Operations for 29 years.

He was an Air Force veteran, serving in France and England.

He was a 1963 graduate of Central High School and a graduate of Lockyear Business College.

He enjoyed golf, bowling and fishing.

Surviving are a son, Robert John of Evansville; eight sisters, Lillian and Margaret Ann Jackson, both of Evansville, Rachel Jackson, Martha Shelby, Ellen Williams, Theresa Bailey and Alma Jackson, all of Evansville, and Marybelle Pulley of Morganfield, Ky.; four brothers, Harold and Alonzo Jr., both of Evansville, and Robert and Ronald, both of Portland, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church, Sister Jane Nesmith officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., with a wake service from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel.

William Erbacher

William R. “Bill” Erbacher, 71, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home of cancer.

He had been a salesman.

He was a 1946 graduate of Poseyville High School.

He was a member of Poseyville American Legion and the Wadesville Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary M. Zanetis of Vincennes and Alberta Metzger of Bowling Green, Ky.; and a friend and caregiver, Caroline Schneider of Evansville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church, the Revs. Edward Schneider and Joseph Erbacher officiating, with burial in St. Francis cemetery in Poseyville.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time, with a rosary at 11 a.m., at Werry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice or the Vanderburgh Humane Society.
