Madeline Hellenberg
MOUNT VERNON — Madeline Hellenberg, 87, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Parkview Care Center in Evansville.
She had worked at the Senior Citizens Center in Mount Vernon.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
Surviving are a foster son, Otis Holder of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Maree Merrill of Belleville, Ill., and Beulah Gill of St. Louis; and two grandchildren, Esther and Steve Holder.
Her husband, William H., died in 1980.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Church of Christ, with burial in Bellefontaine cemetery. Visitation at Boone Funeral Home Mount Vernon Chapel is private.

Thelma Pierard
BICKNELL — Thelma Pierard, 90, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
She had been a seamstress for the Gossard Factory in Bicknell and was secretary for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
She attended the Bicknell First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Mundy of Bicknell; and two grandsons, Jeff and Bob Mundy.
Her husband, Eugene Lawton Pierard, and two sons, Jackie and Ronald, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home, with burial in Bicknell Memorial cemetery.

Edith Payne
BOONVILLE — Edith Imogene “Jean” Payne, 89, formerly of Boonville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her home in Sun City, Ariz.
She was a member of Palmbrook Country Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Jeanne Bernard of Aurora, Colo.; two sons, Jerry of Houston and Bob of Cat Spring, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Sunland Mortuary in Sun City handled the arrangements; burial was in Sunland Memorial Park.

Mildred Romans
ROCKPORT — Mildred M. Romans, 86, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Surviving are three sons, James of Louisville, Ky., Michael of Coral Springs, Fla., and Daniel of Rockport; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Burley D., and a daughter, Mary Margaret Romans, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, with burial in Sunset Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., and from 8 a.m. to service time at Boultinghouse Funeral Home.
Virginia Corbett
Virginia Corbett, 89, of Evansville, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Columbia Health Care Facility.
She retired in 1976 from Deaconess Hospital. After her retirement she worked as a caretaker for elderly people.
She was a charter member of Bethel Temple.
Surviving are a son, Frank R. of Evansville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. R.R. Schwambach officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joseph Mattingly
Joseph Fabian Mattingly, 91, of Evansville, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Regina Continuing Care Center.
He retired in 1970 from the National Weather Service after 30 years.
He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral, Sons of the American Revolution and was a Kentucky Colonel. He also helped worked on the atom bomb.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Catherine Hess of Evansville; two brothers, William of Evansville and Gene of Arlington, Va.; nieces and nephews; and his companion, Annabelle Helfrich of Evansville.
His wife, Adeline, died in 1979.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, the Rev. Gregory Chamberlin officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a memorial service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Nellie Lamey
Nellie Burke Lamey, 91, of Evansville, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She retired in 1973 from St. Mary’s Hospital as head nurse of labor and delivery.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Altar Society, St. Mary’s Alumnae Association and Little Sisters of the Poor Auxiliary.
Surviving are a sister, Anna B. Richardson of Dearborn, Mich.; a brother, Charles H. Burke of Littleton, Colo.; nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, Marty Horning.
Her husband, G. Ray, died in 1962.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Monsignor Kenneth Knapp officiating, with burial in Maple Grove cemetery in Boonville, Ind.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a memorial service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mabel Euler
Mabel R. Euler, 78, of Evansville, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at North Park Nursing Home of a stroke.
Surviving are a brother, James Jerls of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Edward, died in 1985.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel of Remembrance, the Rev. Arthur Christmas officiating, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the Chapel of Remembrance.

Roy Powell
Roy B. Powell, 69, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Evansville, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Memorial Hospital Flagler-Bunnell.
He worked as a metallurgist for US Steel.
He was a member of Palm Coast United Methodist Church.
He was a Korean War Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Mary; two daughters, Olevia Fulkert of Sarasota, Fla., and Elizabeth Powell of Dallas; two sons, Roy E. of Gainesville, Fla., and Roger of Taunton, Mass.; a brother, Leland Powell of Lynnville, Ind.; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Palm Coast United Methodist Church, with burial in Flagler Palms Memorial Garden.
Friends may call from noon to service time at the church.

Nelda Mead
Nelda June (Carr) Mead, 84, formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Morton, Ill.
She was a 1933 graduate of Central High School.
Surviving are her husband, H.C. II; a daughter, Joy Mann of Edinburgh, Ill.; a son, H.C. III of Pekin, Ill.; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
