Richard Beeson

Richard W. Beeson, 70, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of complications of heart disease.

He was an oil producer in the Illinois Basin. He received an honorary degree in geology from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists for his skill in the exploration, discovery and drilling of oil. He was a member of Independent Petroleum Association of America and the Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky oil producers associations.

He was a Korean War veteran with service as a weapons instructor in the 29th Armored Infantry Battalion.

He was a member of Poseyville Masonic Lodge 632, Hadi Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite and was on the board of Evansville Boys and Girls Club.

Surviving are two sons, Craig Halbert and Jay Hamilton Beeson, both of Evansville; a sister, Norma Shelby of Memphis, Tenn.; and a grandson, Tyler Conrad Beeson.

Services will be private, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evansville Boys and Girls Club.

Rosebud Norwood

Rosebud Norwood, 92, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.

She was a 73-year member of St. Mark Methodist Church in Chicago.

Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Willis of Evansville; a sister, Leora Welch of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Elbert, died in January.

Arrangements are pending at W. A. Gaines Funeral Home.

Claude Bowling

Claude R. Bowling, 47, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of heart failure.

He worked in construction and was a cook.

Surviving are his wife, Mona (Payne); a son, Rico of Evansville; his father, James Henry Bowling Sr. of Evansville; two sisters, Emma Johnson of Irma, S.C., and Nancy Williams of Evansville; and four brothers, James Henry Jr. and Richard Bowling, both of Indianapolis, and Michael Groves and James A. Bowling, both of Evansville.

Arrangements are pending at W.A. Gaines Funeral Home.

Carl Word

Carl Wade Word, 66, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at home of cancer.

He retired in 1996 after 47 years with Bunny Bread.

He was a raccoon hunter and raised and sold dogs.

He was a Korean War Navy veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 1114 and American Kennel Club.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Willie; a daughter, Victoria Newell of St. Peters, Mo.; a son, Rick of Mount Vernon, Ind.; five brothers, Glendel, Layton, Herbert and Bill, all of Evansville, and Maxie of Henderson, Ky.; five grandchildren, Carla and Damien Word and Alex, Bradley and Clayton Newell; three stepgrandchildren, Marlena Stallings, Deborah Steinhauer and Gene Carroll; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice or Howell General Baptist Church.

Walter Seits

Walter Lee Seits, 71, of Indianapolis, formerly of Marshall, brother of Leighton “Jake” Seits of Evansville, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis of heart failure.

He was a retired postal worker and an Army veteran.

He was a 1946 graduate of Marshall High School.

He was a Mason.

Also surviving are his wife, Marie (Everad); a brother, Lawrence of Benton, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Saturday at Rice Funeral Home in Marshall, the Rev. Katharine Worthington officiating, with burial in Bethany cemetery in Marshall.

Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.

David Cates

David Whitacker Cates, 82, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

He retired as a welder after 29 years at Chrysler Corp.

Surviving are his wife, Alice; a daughter, Melody Hirsch of Evansville; and step-grandchildren.

There will be no services or visitation at Browning Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery in Henderson, Ky.

Harry Bowling

LOOGOOTEE — Harry J. Bowling, 102, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Martin County Health Care and Rehab Center.

He retired in 1963 as manager of Public Service Indiana Loogootee office.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, a 3rd Degree and honorary life member of Knights of Columbus and a hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are two daughters, Margie Sherfick of Loogootee and Dorothy Hortie of Salisbury, Md.; three sons, Bill, James and Don, all of Loogootee; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bridget (Mattingly), in 1970 and by two sons, Jack and Lester.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Titzer Funeral Home, with rosary service and Knights of Columbus memorial service at 6 p.m.

William Jean

NEW HARMONY — William D. “Bill” Jean, 96, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at New Harmonie Health Care Center.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church in Worthington.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy Phipps of Griffin; a sister, Josephine Wampler of Gosport; four grandchildren, Brett and Jeanie Phipps, Patty Steward and Melinda Murphy; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

His wife, Sarah E. (Dyer), died in 1997 and a son, George, in 1992.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington, with burial in Worthington cemetery.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Folsom Memorial Church Library Fund or Poseyville United Methodist Church.

Charles ‘Ed’ Stuessel

FORT BRANCH — Charles E. “Ed” Stuessel, 51, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of cancer.

He was a corrections officer at Wabash Valley Prison in Carlisle.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Satterfield); a daughter, Melinda Jane Stuessel of Indiana; a son, Todd Edward of Mount Carmel, Ill.; two sisters, Laverne Sales and Tonya Mollenhauer, both of Mount Carmel; three brothers, Ronald, Ruben “Bob, ” and Gary, all of Mount Carmel; and two grandchildren, Taylor Faye and Kalob Edward Stuessel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stodghill Funeral Chapel, with burial in Walnut Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Raymond Finley

BOONVILLE — Raymond G. “Fin” Finley, 41, of Martinsville, Ind., sister of Sandy Robinson of Boonville, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, of injuries suffered in a car accident.

He was a self-employed carpenter and member of Carpenters Union 758.

Also surviving are his wife, Brenda K. (Mills); two daughters, Krista D. Trent of Indianapolis and Chasity Finley of Martinsville; his father, J.E. of Indianapolis; a sister, Angie Crutcher of Indianapolis; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Friday at Flanner & Buchanan Decatur Township Mortuary in Indianapolis, with burial in Floral Park West cemetery in Indianapolis.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clara Holtz

Clara Louise Holtz, 92, of St. Robert, Mo., formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Sunset Village of the

Ozarks in Waynesville, Mo.

She was a graduate of Trinity Lutheran Grade School and Central High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Evansville and a master’s degree in education from Indiana University.

She had served on the faculties of Protestant Deaconess School of Nursing and the University of Evansville, and was a nurse/teacher for the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp.

She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church, both in Evansville, and attended Faith Lutheran Church in Waynesville.

She and her husband, Alvin F., who died in 1983, bought a cabin in Estes Park, Colo., where they lived during the summer months when they taught in Evansville. They also lived part time in Mexico, where they won trophies in deep sea fishing tournaments.

Surviving are two daughters, Anne Fruik of Lakewood, Colo., and Julia Comingore of Paris, Ill., four sons, Robert F. of South Fallsburg, N.Y., Louis W. of Waynesville, Alvin G. of Sterling, Va., and Daniel C. of Seattle; two sisters, Katherine Rupprecht of Milwaukee and Eloise Becker of Evansville; two brothers, Ted Zurstadt of Evansville and Herbert Zurstadt of Orange, Conn.; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice, in 1995.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Wade Butler officiating, with burial in Lutheran cemetery.

Friends may call 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville Lutheran Schools.
