Janet Ratayczak
LYNNVILLE — Janet Rae Ratayczak, 61, of Oak Creek, Wis., formerly of Lynnville, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee of cancer.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; six children, William and Gary Simpson, John and Robert Ratayczak, Dana Mattick and Grace Schmidt; two brothers, Randall and Dennis Dimmett; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Hartson Funeral Home in Hales Corners, Wis. The body will be cremated.

William Hardiman
PRINCETON — William C. “Teddy” Hardiman, 82, of Lyles Station, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Gibson General Hospital.
He had been a mechanic at Olinger Construction and George Equipment. He also had been a part-time farmer. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He attended Wayman African Methodist Episcopal Chapel.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Minerva; two sisters, Wanda Trice of Evansville and Barbara Chavis of Princeton; three brothers, Howard “Bo” of Princeton, Roderick of South Bend and Fred of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a granddaughter, Denise Hardiman; and two great-grandchild-ren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Sand Hill cemetery, with military rites.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
William Kappert
CHANDLER — William J. “Bill” Kappert, 64, formerly of Chandler, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at home in Las Vegas of cancer.
He retired in 1997 after 34 years at Whirlpool Corp. and worked at Home Depot in Las Vegas for the last three years.
He was a Korean War Army veteran and member of Chandler Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local 808. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Judie; two daughters, Belinda Jean Crane of Evansville and Tamara Sue Adamczak of Las Vegas; a sister, Marie Mead of Pharr, Texas; four brothers, Donald and Bob, both of Evansville, John Jr. of Mascoutah, Ill., and Jerry of O’Fallon, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Chad Adamczak.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville, the Rev. Don Sweet officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park, with military rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Doris Drew
SOMERVILLE — Doris Marie Drew, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakland City.
She had been a nurse’s aide at Welborn Hospital in Evansville.
She was a member of Somerville Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are four grand-children, Rick and Rosanna Drew, Becky Kingsbury and Rhonda Riecken; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald E., in 1983.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Somerville cemetery.

Rev. Arthur Newell
The Rev. Arthur Newell, 91, of Evansville, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Woodbridge Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.
He served for 14 years as senior pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Evansville and was pastor emeritus.
He was ordained in 1933 and served as assistant pastor in 1934 in St. John’s Church in Richmond, Va., and was elected pastor and served for 30 more years until 1964.
He was a charter member of the committee that organized the Virginia Council of Churches. He served as a volunteer president of the Potomac Synod, was elected moderator of the General Synod in Lancaster, Pa., and called the vote on the merger with the Congregational Christian Churches.
He served on the committee to write the constitution for the United Church of Christ and as chairman of the subcommittee on the ministry.
He represented the E.& R. Churches of Virginia in the creation of the Virginia Council of Churches and served for two years as president
He was elected to the Board for World Ministries and was a member of its board of directors for eight years. He served on the board at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville
Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Rosalie (Weiss); a daughter, Joan Newell of Gastonia, N.C.; a son, David of Hawaii; three grandchildren, Kris Lineberger, Kim Harting and Rick Long; four great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Magdalen “Peggy, ” in 1990 and a daughter, Karen Lonelle Newell, in 1951.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, the Revs. Louis H. Dorsch and Marcus Auffermann officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Edward Martin
Edward L. “Ed” Martin, 82, of Evansville, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at his home.
He retired in 1980 from the Sterling Brewery.
He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral and enjoyed fishing and square dancing.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Lola; four daughters, Janice Elliott and Joan McRoy and Donna Wire and Judith Martin who cared for him, all of Evansville; two sisters, Louise Heathcott and Mildred Koch, both of Evansville; a brother, John of Newburgh; nine grandchildren, Diana Eblen, Keith Lindauer, Sue Ann Thurman, Anna, Scott and Timothy Wire, Chris Owens, Crystal McRoy and Brian Easton; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles Hawkins
Charles Warren Hawkins, 76, of Evansville, died of emphysema, Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000 at HealthSouth.
He co-founded the Tri-State Painting Co. in 1961 and operated the company until 1972 when he opened C. Warren Hawkins Painting Co. and operated it until retiring in 1997.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 242nd Infantry and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2953.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Beulah Lodge in Mount Vernon, Ind., past president of Hadi Shrine Golf Club and former member of the Fredrich Men’s Golf Club.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; a daughter, Linda Moore of Newburgh; two sons, Stephen of Dundee, Ill., and Fredrick of Evansville; a sister, JoAnn Walker of Evansville; five grandchildren, Tyler, Rachel and Alex Moore, Theresa Renwick and Susan Heffley; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel.

Joe Johnson
Joe Edward Johnson, 76, of Evansville, died of cancer, Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital.
He was the pastor of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Newburgh, active with the Haitian Children’s Survival Ministry and had traveled to Haiti to assist in relief efforts.
He had been a member of the Laborers Union Local 561.
Surviving are three daughters, Delores Price of Fort Wayne, Ind., Annette Barnes of Evansville and Odessa Powell of New York; four sisters, Mabel and Jesse Mae Armstead and Margaret Calhoun, all of Henderson, Ky., and Lottie Swope of Evansville; three brothers, Willie, Leonard and Clint, all of Henderson; four grandchildren, Nicole and Stacy Kelly and Mario and Eric Barnes; and two great-grandchildren.
His wife of 56 years, Mary Lee (Pruitt), and a daughter, Barbara Johnson, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Watkins Temple Church of God in Christ, the Rev. Matthew Hale officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 pm. Monday at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel, with a wake service from 6 to 8 p.m.
Irene Willem
Irene E. (Kaiser) Willem, 77, of Evansville, died of pulmonary fibrosis, Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis.
She had worked at Meade Johnson and Co.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Legion of Mary and a former volunteer at Marion Day School.
Surviving are a daughter, Peggy D. Willem of Indianapolis; a son, Stephen J. of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Olivia and Spencer Willem; and nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Clarence H., died in 1998.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Monsignor Kenneth Knapp officiating, with burial in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery in Haubstadt, Ind.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a memorial service at 4 p.m.

Victor Reed
Victor Lee Reed, 39, of Newburgh, died of leukemia, Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
He worked at Alcoa Warrick Operations as an area coordinator in the cold mill and had worked as an electrical engineer at IBM in Lexington, Ky.
He served in the Kentucky Air National Guard in Louisville, Ky., and was on active duty in the Air Force at the Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota.
He attended Tell City High School, graduated with honors in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky and received his master’s degree in Seattle, Wash.
He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church.
He enjoyed horseback riding and science fiction literature.
Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Victoria (Peter); two daughters, Jenna C. and Rachael L. Reed, both of Newburgh; his mother, Marie Reed of Tell City, Ind.; two sisters, Lena Tabor of Madisonville, Ky., and Debbie Braun of Troy, Ind.; two brothers, Mike of Troy and Steve of Evansville; and his grandparents, Ollie and Hazel Wilson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, the Rev. Pat Cron officiating, with burial in New Cliff cemetery in Cannelton, Ind., , with military rites.
Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to service time at the chapel.
