Marie Funke

Marie M. Funke, 89, of Evansville, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, one of the first members of the church choir and a member of the Altar Society. She had been the president of the Holy Rosary PTA and was the first president of the Seniors Club at the church. In 1993, she was a recipient of Monsignor Maurilius E. Bilskie Award for Outstanding and Devoted Service to Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was inducted into the Brute Society in 1998.

She was a Pink Lady at St. Mary's Hospital and a volunteer driver for cancer patients for the American Cancer Society.

Surviving are five daughters, Caroline Pyle of Fort Myers, Fla., Rose Marie Brothers of Swannie, Ga., Mary Louise MacCauley of Evansville, Theresa Funke of Batavia, Ill., and Christine Goade of Newburgh; a son, Ludwig II of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Josephine Oertwig of Evansville and Gussie Miller of St. Joe, Mich.; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Ludwig, died in 1988.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Rev. Kenneth Herr and Monsignor Maurilius Bilskie officiating, with entombment in St. Joseph cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Ruth Balser

WINSLOW - Ruth (Jones) Balser, 82, of Antioch, Tenn., formerly of Winslow, died Monday, July 16, 2001, in Antioch.

Surviving are three sisters, Monta Thurman and Kathryn Wolford, both of Jupiter, Fla., and Marie Julian of Oakland City.

Phillips-Robinson Co. handled the arrangements in Nashville, Tenn. Memorial services and burial were in Sunset Memorial Park in Elwood, Ind.

Anna Richardson

BOONVILLE - Anna B. Richardson, 89, of Dearborn, Mich., formerly of Boonville, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Dearborn.

She worked for the law office of Royal A. Opperheim for 71 years.

Surviving are a brother, Charles Burke of Littleton, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.

Her husband of 54 years, Donald, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Maple Grove cemetery in Boonville. Koehler Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Ronald Hopper

ELBERFELD - Ronald Hopper, 60, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Shands Hospital in Gainsville, Fla., of complications after brain surgery.

He retired in 1996 after 30 years of teaching and had taught in Evansville at Reitz High School and Central High School.

He was a graduate of Lynnville High School and Oakland City College, and he received his master's degree from Indiana State University.

He was a member of the Evansville Bethel United Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge 396, Scottish Rite and Hadi Temple.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Linda (Ferguson); a son, Roger of Jacksonville, Fla.; his mother, Bertha Hopper of Lynnville; a sister, Janice Simpson of Lynnville; and a brother, Garry of Alexandria, Va.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pemberton-Bradley Funeral Home in Lynnville, with burial in Maple Grove cemetery in Boonville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Lawrence Briggs

OAKLAND CITY - Lawrence 'B.J.' Briggs, 62, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in Marion, Ill., at the Veterans Administration Hospital of a heart attack.

He had been a professional wrestler and was a bus driver for the Evansville METS.

He was a Navy Seal veteran.

He attended the Mackey Nazarene Church, was a member of the Gibson County Red Cross board, Disabled American Veterans in Evansville, Vanderburgh County REACT and Johnson Cruisers of Oakland City.

Surviving are his wife, Karen (Schoonover); a daughter, Crissy Kerney of Mackey; and a son, Robert Kerney of Evansville.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Albright cemetery in Mackey, with military rites.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mackey Nazarene Church.

James Foster

VINCENNES - James Lawrence Foster, 84, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He had worked for REMC and was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are a niece and nephew. His wife, Imogene Virginia (Malone), died in 2000.

Graveside services will be at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home.

Patricia Hart

VINCENNES - Patricia A. Hart, 49, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at her home of self-inflicted carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Knox County coroner.

She was a deliverer for UPS and had worked for Federal Express.

She was a 1970 graduate of Lincoln High School.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, sang in the choir and was a former member of the Lawrenceville (Ill.) Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vincennes American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries.

Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Hart of Vincennes; three sons, Matt Hand and Jonathan Hart, both of Vincennes, and Mark Hand of Jacksonville, N.C.; her parents, Robert and Helen Pfoff of Vincennes; a sister, Marilyn Fields of Vincennes; two brothers, Dan Pfoff of Vincennes and Brad Pfoff of Seffner, Fla.; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 8 p.m. today at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial pending.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Robert Rogge III

NEW HARMONY - Robert David 'Bobby' Rogge III, 15, drowned Sunday, July 22, 2001, while boating with his family at Lake Barkley in Trigg County, Ky.

He was a student at New Harmony High School and enjoyed soccer, golf, fishing and music.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Jo Ann (Williams) and Ricky Russell of New Harmony; his father and stepmother, Robert D.Jr. and Cindy Rogge of Mount Vernon; a sister, Rachel Rogge of New Harmony; a brother, Carlos of Mount Vernon; grandparents, Bill Ray and Essie Williams and Darlene Rogge; and great-grandparents.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Johnson United Methodist Church, with burial in Maple Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Werry Funeral Home New Harmony Chapel and from 9 a.m. to service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Posey County Community Foundation for a scholarship in Bobby's memory.

Lois Abell

PETERSBURG - Lois A. (Robling) Abell, 69, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Amber Manor Nursing Home of heart failure.

She was a member of the First Church of God.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Willis and Sherry Gray, both of Petersburg; a sister, Oneida Coomer of Petersburg; three brothers, Bud Robling of Petersburg, Bobby Robling of Lebanon, Mo., and Billy Robling of Plato, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Julie Like, Scott Gray and Teri Willis.

Her husband, Robert, died in 1997.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Chapel cemetery in Petersburg.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at Harris Funeral Home.

Gertrude Carlisle

WASHINGTON - Gertrude Lenore Carlisle, 86, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

She was a 1933 graduate of Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio.

Surviving are a sister, Marge Gabella of Orlando, Fla.; and a brother, Leonard Bell of Avon, Ohio.

Her husband, Eugene Warner, died in 1994.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gill Funeral Home, with burial in Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
