Joy White

Joy Marsh White, 59, of Maryville, Tenn., formerly of Newburgh, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., of heart failure.

She was a registered nurse, volunteered as a school nurse, served as a hospice volunteer and organized fund raisers for Hospice’s Mercy Fund.

Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Joseph E.; a daughter, Elizabeth Bostwick of Durham, N.C.; two sons, Brandon of Raleigh, N.C., and Christopher of Durham; a brother, James Marsh of Fairfax Station, Va.; and a niece and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Maryville, Tenn., with burial in Grandview cemetery there.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Fund for Hospice in Maryville.

Thomas Wire

Thomas J. “Tommy” Wire, 59, formerly of Evansville and Cynthiana, Ind., died Friday, March 9, 2001, at New Braunfels, Texas, of a heart attack.

Surviving are two sisters, Judy Rawl of Princeton, Ind., and his twin sister, Lottie Strickland of Evansville; a half sister, Parna Harris of Tucson, Ariz.; and a half brother, Jimmy of Defiance, Ohio.

Memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Zion Church cemetery in Tennyson, Ind. There will be no visitation at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel.

Katie Sargent

Katie B. Sargent, 80, of Evansville, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

She retired from the Royal Crown Bottle Co.

She was a life member of the Nazarene Baptist Church and a member of the Willing Workers Club.

Surviving are a sister, Helen M. Barnhill of Evansville; and nieces and nephews including, Marleen Cabell Overton and Anna Cabell McDonald, who cared for her.

Her husband, Banker, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Larry Rascoe officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funera home.

Thelma Branscum

Thelma (Neighbors) Branscum, 94, formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in Boerne, Texas.

During World War II she worked at the Chrysler Plant making ammunition. She was a member of the Hill Country Baptist Church in Boerne.

Surviving are a daughter, Vivian Chapman of Boerne; two stepdaughters, Christine Bartlett and Edwina Lawrence, both of Kentucky; two stepsons, Donald of Arizona, and Edgar of Cibilo, Texas; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Ed, died in 1976.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Tupman cemetery in Evansville, the Rev. Herchel Morgan officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Estelle Muller

Estelle “Betty” Muller, 81, of Evansville, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in Gulf Shores, Ala., while on vacation.

She was an active member and volunteer at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, William J.; two daughters, Debbie Bailey of Santa Claus, Ind., and Patti Nau of Evansville; two sons, Tony of Evansville and Bill of Newburgh; nine grandchildren, Michael, Anne, John, Stan and Frank Muller, Matt and Kristine Bailey and Amy and Elizabeth Nau; a stepgrandson, Keith Nau; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Rev. Breidenbach and Monsignor Maurilus Bilskie officiating, with entombment in St. Joseph cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

Oliver Bumb

Oliver C. Bumb, 90, formerly of Evansville, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his home in Muncie, Ind.

He retired from Ball State Teachers College in 1977 as vice president of public affairs and university development. He was founder of the Ball State Cardinal Corps. He also taught at Burris Laboratory School, served as administrative assistant of the president and coordinator of public affairs and college development. After retiring he was the business and development manager of Muncie Symphony Orchestra for five years.

He was a graduate of Reitz High School, received his master’s and doctorate degrees from Indiana University in 1950.

He was a 58-year member of College Avenue United Methodist Church.

His numerous memberships included, board of directors of Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, Council of Boy Scouts, United Cerebral Palsy board, Delaware County Council for the Arts and Muncie Children’s Museum.

He was the recipient of an honorary membership to the Muncie Rotary Club, Silver Beaver Award, Jaycees “Boss of the Year, ” honorary Jaycees Award, Ball State University Oliver Bumb Alumni Scholarship and “Benny” award, Muncie Symphony Orchestra Endowed Chair, Ball State University President’s Medal of Distinction and the VIVA Life Achievement award.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Margaret; two daughters, Ann Hamilton of South Bend, Ind., and Jane Anderson of Los Angeles; a son, Charles of Columbus, Ind.; three sisters, Ruth Hillyard, Betty Grabert and Delores Sousley, all of Evansville; a brother, Fred of Evansville; five grandchildren, Linda Ashman, Nancy Bumb, Jane Thomas and Guy and Carrie Hamilton; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at College Avenue United Methodist Church in Muncie, Ind., with burial in Breman cemetery.

Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. at Meeks Mortuary in Muncie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ball State University Oliver C. Bumb Scholarship or a favorite charity.

Infant Seth Boarman

Seth Nathaniel Boarman, son of Andrea Boarman of Evansville, was stillborn Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Also surviving are grandparents, John and Toni Kisner of Mount Vernon, Ind.

Graveside memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in Alexander Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel.

Terry Hockenberry

TELL CITY — Terry Hockenberry, 45, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in Long Beach, Calif., of heart failure.

He was a registered nurse and a nursing home administrator.

Surviving are two sisters, Janice Fendel of Olaton, Ky., and Donna Jones of Tell City; six brothers, Larry, Jerry, Danny, Keith and Kevin, all of Tell City, and Oscar of Paducah, Ky.; and his partner of 12 years, Joey R. Ortego.

Services will be at 1 p.m. EST Sunday at Huber Funeral Home Tell City Chapel, with burial in Troy cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Michael Baggett

CHAND-LER — Michael T. “Mick” Baggett, 53, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at St. Mary’s Warrick of a heart attack.

He retired after 33 years a a laborer with Local 561.

He was a Navy veteran and a member of Prince Masonic Lodge 231 in Princeton.

He was a member of Dusty Trails Saddle Club and South Wind Beagle Club, both in Boonville, and Erie Canal Beagle Club in Elberfeld.

Surviving are his wife, Teresa; two sons, Michael R. of Lexington, Ky., and Brian L. of Flagstaff, Ariz.; his mother, Naomi Baggett of Evansville; two sisters, Greta Halpin and Belinda King, both of Evansville; two brothers, Phillip and Dennis, both of Evansville; five grandchildren, Whitney, Sydney, Devon, Madison and Kaylee; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Robert A. Nall officiating, with burial in Park Lawn cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gladine Eslinger

OAKLAND CITY — Gladine M. Eslinger, 83, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Petersburg Healthcare.

She was the bookkeeper at Harden Brother Oil for 30 years.

She was a member of the First General Baptist Church and American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy Rothrock of Winslow; a son, Larry of Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Bob Skelton of Panama City Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mike Rothrock, Karen Lee, Brian Eslinger and Cheryl Tepera; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Lee, died in 1992.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, with burial in Montgomery cemetery. Friends may call form 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to service time.

Melvin Abel

LOOGOOTEE — Melvin G. Abel, 81, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his home.

He had been a carpenter and was a member of the Truelove Methodist Church.

He was a World War II Army veteran, recipient of a Purple Heart and member of American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia; two daughters, Lynda Combs of Loogootee and Terry Ahr of Garrett; a sister, Laura Simmons of Indiana; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Titzer Funeral Home, with burial in Truelove Church cemetery.
