Robert Francis

Robert Scott “Rob” Francis, 22, of Carterville, Ill., formerly of Evansville, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Herrin (Ill.) Hospital of injuries from an automobile accident.

He was a student at John A. Logan College in Carterville.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cadiz, Ky., and attended the First Baptist Church in Carterville.

He was a golfer and bowler.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Donna and Billy Yates of Evansville; his father and stepmother, Paul and Johnna Frances of Martinez, Ga.; a sister, Rachel Borah of Martinez; two brothers, Tom Francis of Martinez and Bret Yates of Henderson, Ky.; and grandparents, Mary Helen Francis, Wanda Hogue and Dempsey Hall.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, Ill., burial is pending.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

J. Bradford Gibson

J. Bradford Gibson, 79, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, March 19, 2001, in Grandville, Mich.

He retired in 1981 from Whirlpool Corp. in Evansville.

He was a World War II Marine.

Surviving are two sons, Robert of New Mexico, and William of Colorado; stepchildren; his mother, Jean Gibson of Byron Center, Mich.; and grandchildren.

Two wives preceded him in death, Jeannette and Eileen.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grandville First Reformed Church, with burial in Grandville cemetery.

Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cook Funeral Home Grandville Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to church scholarship fund or the Boy Scouts of America.

Horace Cox

Horace Elliot Cox, 75, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at North Port, Fla., of cancer.

He retired in 1990 after 40 years as an electrician for Whirlpool Corp.

He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 1st Marine Division “C” Company 16th Infantry Rifle Expert. He served in the Pacific Theater in Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands.

Surviving are his wife, Judith; two daughters, Patricia Darlene Malone of Richland, Ind., and Debra Renae Wilkerson of Evansville; a stepdaughter, Mary Theresa Diard of Warren, Ohio; three sons, Mark Allan of Corydon, Ky., Donald Ray of Burton, Ohio, and James Michael of Evansville; three stepsons, Ernest Ray Diard of Mobile, Ala., Charles Ray Diard of Fairhope, Ala., and Robert Geary Diard of Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Elaine Harkins of Grove, Okla.; a brother, Glenn Porter of Bradenton, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Venice (Fla.) Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Farley Funeral Home Venice Chapel.

Frances Pearce

Frances Raber Pearce, 72, formerly of Evansville, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colo., of cancer.

She had worked at the Donut Bank in Evansville and for 27 years at Hocker Brake Co.

She was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Dwight “Ray” and Glenn Earl, both of Colorado Springs; five sisters, Olive Polley of Evansville, Juanita Lane and Anne Lewis, both of Henderson, Ky., Bea Goldsberry of Eddyville, Ky., and Janice Mossman of Cadiz, Ky.; two brothers, Richard Raber of Henderson and Carl B. Raber of Tempe, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. April 6 at Cappadona’s Family Service Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., with burial in Guffey, Colo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care in Colorado Springs.

William Briggeman

TELL CITY — William A. Briggeman, 84, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at his home.

He was a coal miner and a carpenter.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Opal (Green); eight daughters, Sharon Rust of Troy, Lorie Stowe of Fairview Heights, Ill., Charlene Hargis of Clarkston, Mich., and Norma Quick, Joyce VanWinkle, Kathy Jarboe, Lisa Wheatly and Angela Braunecker, all of Tell City; and two sons, Michael and David, both of Tell City. His first wife, Leona (Daum) died in 1979.

Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Perry County Memorial Hospital Hospice.

Welton Borrell

JASPER — Welton J. “Butch” Borrell, 79, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center of cancer.

He retired from the Hoosier Desk Co.

He was a World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673 and American Legion Post 147.

Surviving are three daughters, Becky Dunn of Jasper, Sandi Kalb of Dubois and Julie Harkness of Santa Claus; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. EST Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with entombment in Fairview cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel, with a prayer vigil at 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Carol Lumbrix

BICKNELL — Carol Sue (Elkins) Lumbrix, 64, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at her home. She was a hospice patient.

She worked for the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, Ill., in the medical records department.

She was a member of Bicknell Wesleyan Church, Knox County Relay for Life and Breast Care for Life Support Group.

Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Robert; three daughters, Donna Lormand and Melinda Hedge, both of Bicknell, and Dawn Wilcox of Sullivan; a son, Joseph of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Debra Owens of North Terre Haute; a brother, Paul Elkins Jr of West Terre Haute; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Friday at Bicknell Wesleyan Church, with burial in Bicknell Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Wampler-Shaw Funeral Home.

Lillie Knepp

PLAINVILLE — Lillie Catherine Knepp, 52, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky., of complications of heart surgery.

She was a member of Pleasant View Mennonite Church.

Surviving are her husband, Wilmer E.; two sons, Donnie and Robert Lee, both at home; her mother, Edith Graber of rural Loogootee; four sisters, Joyce and Betty Knepp, Rosie Graber and Rachel Wagler, all of Washington; and four brothers, Raymond and James Graber, both of Loogootee, and Gerald and Clifford Graber, both of Plainfield.

A daughter, Janet Lynn Knepp, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Gill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Gary Werne

JASPER — Gary W. Werne, 52, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center of cancer.

He was a truck driver for Jasper Engine and a member of Jasper Outdoor Recreation.

Surviving are his wife, Judith A.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Schuetter and Jill Ruckriegel, both of Jasper; a son, Todd A. of Louisville, Ky.; two stepsons, Jeff Ruckriegel of Terre Haute and Marty Schuetter of Jasper; his parents, Gilbert and Irene Werne of Ferdinand; two sisters, Darla Schipp of Ferdinand and Sharon Persohn of Schnellville; and a stepgranddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. EST Saturday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home, with a 4:30 p.m. prayer service.

Sudie Toon

Sudie F. (Masserang) Toon, 102, of Evansville, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital.

She was a registered nurse.

She was a graduate of St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Queen’s Daughters, Legion of Mary and the Missionary of Immaculate.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Coomes of Evansville and Beverly Wargel of Saginaw, Mich.; a son, Maurice of Evansville; two grandchildren, Jean Marie Wargel and Nicklas Coomes; and a great-grandchild. Her husband, John Alvey, died in 1967.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 10 a.m at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Rev. Jay Davidson officiating, with burial in St. Joseph cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
