Wilford Overfield
Wilford A. Overfield, 67, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital of cancer. He retired after 18 years with Warehousing Inc. and had worked 23 years at Guthrie May Construction.
He was a member of Mill Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jackie; a daughter, Debra Whobrey of Evansville; two sons, Keith and Roger, both of Evansville; two sisters, Cecelia Overby of Evansville and Jane Whelan of Decatur, Ill.; a brother, John of Decatur; and six grandchildren, Tera Whobrey and Alicia, David, Julie, Brittney and Andrew Overfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Rev. Bill Kellough officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.

Roberta Benedict
Roberta Frances “Fran” (Lanham) Benedict, 57, of Evansville formerly of Marion, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at her home of cancer.
Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Michael; two sons, Brian David and Michael Anthony, both of Evansville; a sister, Deloris Tinsley of Marion; a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Benedict; and nieces and nephews.
A son, Mark Alan, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Eugene Main officiating, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery.

Kathleen Garrett
Kathleen Garrett, 77, of Evansville, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Holiday Health Care of complications of can-cer. She re-
tired from Wesselman’s Deli in Lawndale. She was Baptist.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law who cared for her, Jethro H. and Donna of Evansville; three grandchildren, Beth, Sean and Jason Garrett; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, the Rev. John Filbert officiating, with burial in the cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the chapel. Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel is handling arrangements.
Tillie Price
Tillie Price, 90, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Good Samaritan Home. She was a life member of the Poseyville Eastern Star.
Surviving are a son, James O. of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Helen Detoro of Evansville; a brother, Scott Thompson of Evansville; and two grandchildren, Blake A. and Kristen Price. Her husband, Ottis, died in 1967.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Tim Suenram officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with and Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m., and from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Joseph Jewell
Joseph Raymond “Jody” Jewell, 56, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at his home of congestive heart failure.
Surviving are his father, Phillip “Pete” of Evansville; a sister, Wanda Poole of Evansville; a brother, Leslie of Mount Carmel, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Steve Greene officiating, with burial in park Lawn cemetery.

William Heyna
William James Heyna, 76, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Columbia Healthcare Center of kidney failure.
He retired after 16 years in the dietary department at Deaconess Hospital and had worked for Hoosier Cardinal.
He was a fisherman and enjoyed camping.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Ann Hammers of Evansville; a son, Stephen of Evansville; three stepsons, Robert and John Short, both of Evansville, and Raymond Short of Evans, Ga.; a sister, Annie Kilian of Evansville; two grandsons, Scott and Charles Heyna; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. His wife, Mary C., died in 2000.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, the Rev. Jean Vogler officiating, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.

Alma White
Alma Magdoline White, 88, of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She had worked at Chrysler Corp., the Harper Dining Hall at the University of Evansville, Visiting Nurse Association and was a self-employed beautician.
She was a member of Cleaves Memorial C.M.E. Church for more than 60 years and the Stewardess Board, Missionary Society and Joy Club.
Surviving are a son, Julian Grimes of Evansville; three grandchildren, Millard, Asha and Shoney Sprinkles; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie, and a daughter, Helene Sprinkles.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cleaves Memorial C.M.E Church, the Rev. James Buckner officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
Carolyn Woodward
Carolyn Sue Woodward, 38, of Evansville, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital of complications of diabetes.
She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and a volunteer at Mesker Park Zoo and the Southwestern Indiana Mental Health Center.
Surviving are three daughters, Melissa, April and Crystal Woodward, all of Evansville; a son, William “Billy” Marlon Woodward of Evansville; four sisters, Joyce Meserve and Ellen Louise Woodward, both of Evansville, Rebecca Combs of Louisville, Ky., and Catherine Ann Woodward of Golden, Colo.; two brothers, Marlon Leon Woodward Jr. of San Francisco, and Anthony Wayne Woodward of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelley Christine Woodward.
Services will be at noon Friday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Henderson, Ky., the Rev. Andy Ausenbaugh officiating, with burial in St. Louis cemetery in Henderson.
There will be no visitation. A prayer service will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the church. Benton-Glunt Funeral Home in Henderson is handling arrangements.
Kenneth Byes
Kenneth F. Byes, 44, of Altamonte Springs, Fla., formerly of Evansville, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his home of heart failure.
He had worked as a bakery parts distributor for nine years at the Thomas L. Green Co. in Indianapolis.
Surviving are his wife, Betsy D. (Hatzell); two sons, Kyle F. and Matthew R.; his mother, M. Joyce Scales; a sister, Brenda J. Byes-Justin; and his grandmother, Pearl Coultas.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Conkle Funeral Home Hendricks County Chapel in Plainfield, Ind., with burial in Floral Park West cemetery in Indianapolis.

Georgia Jackson
Georgia Elma (Basham) Jackson, 90, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Munster, Ind. She had been a crossing guard for the Hammond, Ind., police department and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Mildred Whalen of Milwaukee; a son, Kenneth Basham of Masa, Ariz.; a sister, Buella Beeny of Madisonville, Ky.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Simpson Meyer Funeral Home, with burial in Locust Hill cemetery.

Gale Guess
Gale Guess, 45, of Eddyville, Ky., formerly of Evansville, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Madisonville (Ky.) Regional Medical Center of respiratory failure.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Evansville.
Surviving are a daughter, Wendy Tucker of Madisonville; a son, Shelby Tucker of Eddyville; three sisters, Brenda Cramer and Mary Anna Tennyson, both of Posey County, Ind., and Carolyn Sturm of Florida; two brothers, Charles of Posey County and Jerry of Evansville; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville, with burial in Rolling Hills cemetery.
