Stephen Wayne Wade

Stephen Wayne Wade, 39, Bloomington and a former Tipton resident died at 11:16 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 in Bloomington from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born in Tipton March 16, 1970 to Wayne & Jeanine (This) Wade and lived here until 1988.

Stephen was a former owner of the Peach Garden Chinese restaurant in Bloomington and continued to work there. He was a member of the West Street Christian Church, a 1988 graduate of Tipton High School where he played tennis, and earned a BS in Optometry from Indiana University.

He loved playing the guitar, rock music and golfing. He was a great uncle to his nephew Joseph. His dogs, Bella and Jack, were like children to Stephen.

He is survived by his mother, Jeanine Wade, Tipton; one sister, Melinda Berry and husband Joseph Berry II, and one nephew, Joseph Berry III, all of Chicago.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, April 13 at the West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, with the Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Burial will be in University Church Memorial Garden in Chicago at a later date. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon Monday at the church.

Sr. Julia Wagner, CSJ

Sr. Julia Wagner, CSJ died Monday, October 24, 2011at the age of 91 in the Tipton Hospital. A resident of St. Joseph Center since 2004, she had been in poor health for some time and died peacefully with other Sisters at her side.

Matthias and Helen (Kamer) Wagner gave birth to Mary Elizabeth Wagner May 15, 1920 in Kokomo, Indiana. Mary was baptized in St. Patrick Church in Kokomo, Indiana June 6, 1920. On December 28, 1935, at the age of 15, Mary entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in Tipton, Indiana and was given the name Sister Mary Julia. She professed final vows on July 2, 1941 and celebrated her 75th year as a Sister of St. Joseph in 2010. Her parents and siblings, Hubert Wagner, Paul Wagner, Joseph Wagner, Elizabeth Wagner Cook and Margaret Wagner Arney have all preceded her in death. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and the Congregation of St. Joseph.

Sister Julia graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from St. Joseph College in Renssalear, Indiana in 1964, and earned a Masters degree in Latin and English from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, in 1967. Over the next several years, Sister Julia, who never stopped learning, earned certificates in Normal Aging, Contemporary Christianity and Nurturing Spiritual Growth.

Sister Julia began her long and happy teaching ministry in 1940 at St. Bernard Catholic School in South Bend, Indiana. For the next 30 years, she taught in parochial schools in Wabash, Lebanon, Tipton, Kokomo, Crawfordsville, Marion and at St. Joseph Academy in Tipton. In 1970, Sister Julia, began her ministry as a Social Worker with Catholic Charities in Cincinnati, Ohio where she served for seven years. She also served as Social Services Coordinator in Lebanon, Indiana. In 1981, Sister Julia, combining her gifts for working with families and individuals with her zeal for the Church, began serving in the Office of Evangelization in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Long after her retirement, Sister Julia continued to serve in her Noblesville Parish as a volunteer. She was gifted with a heart for welcoming, listening and encouraging others to create a personal relationship with God and others. She was, at heart, an evangelist whose personal mission was to be a unifying presence.

When Sister Julia returned to St. Joseph Center in Tipton, Indiana, she remained committed to listening and leading others to seek and find answers in their spiritual quest for meanings. Even in her illness, she sought community and reverenced the moments she could share in the lives of sisters, staff, family, associates and friends. Her legacy will be her love for others and her deep desire to offer challenge and encouragement to all who were a part of her spiritual journey.

Visitation is scheduled at St. Joseph Center Chapel in Tipton, Indiana for Friday, October 28, beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning, October 29, preceding the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at which Father John Judie from Louisville, Kentucky will preside. Burial will be in the Cemetery at St. Joseph Center following the Mass. May Sister Julia now rest in Christ’s eternal peace.

Ernest A. Weismiller

Ernest A. Weismiller, 93, 1870 W. 400 S., Tipton, died at 1:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Tipton County Memorial Hospital. He was born March 12, 1911, in Tipton County to Alfred & Arabella (Augstadt) Weismiller. On September 24, 1952, he married Louise (Heisser) Humbles and she survives.

He was a farmer and former Deputy Township Assessor. Ernest belonged to the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Men's Club and was a former Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include his wife Louise of Tipton; one daughter, Jo Ann Swinford, Indianapolis; one step daughter-in-law, Linda Humbles, Indianapolis; two sisters, Edna Weismiller and Dorothy Bultemeier, both of Tipton; two grandchildren, Jason and Jeremy Swinford of Indianapolis; two step-grandchildren, Kimberly Stockton, Indianapolis, and Nicole Clausen, Chicago. One step-son, Raymond Humbles, is deceased.

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1385 S. Main Street, Tipton, with Rev. Kurt Gremel presiding. Burial will be in the Arcadia Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, 216 W. Jefferson Street, Tipton, and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday at the church.

Nicole "Nikki" Workman

Nicole "Nikki" Workman, 17, 120 Walnut Street, Tipton, went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2003, after an auto accident at Tipton High School.

She was born January 25, 1986, in Muncie, Indiana to David Workman and Lisa Neeley who survive. She was employed by KFC/Taco Bell in Tipton and had previously worked for Nations Title Agency of Indiana and tutored middle school students.

Nikki attended Cowan Schools and lived in Muncie before moving to Tipton 2 1/2 years ago. She was a Junior at Tipton High School. She played softball from peewee through middle school years. She was a member of the Lady Trebbles Choir at Tipton High School, Spanish Club, and was a Jr. Varsity and Varsity Cheerleader for Tipton Football and Basketball. Nikki also participated in bible studies at the school. She was a member of Honey Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Russiaville, and sang in the choir.

Nikki was voted All American Cheerleader in 2002 and was selected as an alternate for Hoosiers Girl State. She loved to read, write letters and poems. Her favorite bible verse was Psalms 30:5 "For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favor is life; weeping may endure a night, but joy cometh in the morning".

Survivors besides her parents include her grandparents, Henry & Beverly Workman, Farmland; an adopted grandmother, Audrey Bowers, Kokomo; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Nancy Neeley, great-grandfather Clarence Bailey, cousin Stephanie Reese, and uncle Scott A. Neeley.

Her funeral service will be Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at 11:00 A.M., at the Honey Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 260 W. Main Street, Russiaville, with the Rev. Jim Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmridge Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be Monday, May 12, from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, and from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Honey Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 260 W. Main Street, Russiaville, Indiana, 46979 to pursue God's will that none should perish but have everlasting life.

B. O. "Barney" Andrews

B. O. "Barney" Andrews, 100, Tipton, died at 8:37 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2004, at Autumnwood Extended Care at Tipton County Memorial Hospital. He was born April 22, 1904, in Washington, Indiana, to George & Mary (Pickett) Andrews. On January 2, 1926, he married Irene Holloway who was an elementary teacher in Tipton schools for many years. She died on June 17, 1989.

Barney first started working for the New York Central Railroad in 1918 at the age of 13 in Beech Grove for 13 cents per hour. He came to Tipton in 1922 and worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad until he retired in 1969 as a mechanical supervisor. One highlight of his career was when President Harry Truman came to Tipton on October 15, 1948. While the train was stopped, Barney was required to inspect the train while the Secret Service watched him very closely.

He was a member of the West Street Christian Church and B.P.O.E. of Tipton. He played semi-pro baseball and was an avid fisherman and golfer.

Barney is survived by two children, Roberta June Deaton, Allendale, Michigan and Bernard A. Andrews, Wadsworth, Ohio; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister are deceased.

No services are planned and his body will be cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 82, Tipton, Indiana, 46072 or the West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.

Mildred I. Addington

Mildred I. Addington, 86, Tipton, died at 12:19 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. She was born on June 15, 1921 in Portland, Indiana to Charles and Anna Mae (Ferrel) Wheat and adopted later by Dr. Jesse and Mabel (Hiester) Nixon.

Mildred was a devoted and dedicated mother and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tipton where she was active in choir and Women's Association and served as chairman of Westminster Circle. She graduated from Portland High School in 1940 where she was active in choral and musical programs. She worked at the Tipton Telephone Company for 26 years, retiring in 1987.

Survivors include her son, Forest (and Linda) Addington of Clovis, California and a daughter Catherine (and William) Franklin of Indianapolis. She has five grandchildren Dan (Brita) Addington, Costa Mesa, CA, Rashelle (Scott) Nelson, Valencia, CA, Jarrod (Amber) Addington, Springville, UT, Bethany Addington, Montevideo, Uruguay, and Keith Addington, Fayette, NC, and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Sommer of Cincinnati, Ohio and a brother, Bill Wheat of Anderson, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton with Revs. Jack Masters and Linda Philabaun presiding. Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery in Portland. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 11 at the funeral home.

Waneta I. Addington

Waneta I. Addington, 95, Tipton, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2006 at Autumnwood Extended Care in Tipton. She was born September 19, 1910, in Milford, Illinois to Calvert W. & Bertha (Baldwin) Graves. Waneta lived in Indianapolis from 1910 - 1935. On April 20, 1935, she married Dr. Robert J. Collins and he preceded her in death. She then married Forest Keith Addington on September 2, 1971, and he died on December 18, 1999.

She worked as the head librarian at the Tipton County Public Library, retiring in 1972. Waneta was a member of the West Street Christian Church and the Rosary Chapter of Easter Star. She was a 75-year member of Delta Delta Delta and belonged to Tri-Kappa, Embroidery Circle and Kempton Women's Study Club.

Waneta graduated from Butler University in 1932 with a BS in Education and in 1960 with an MA in Library Science.

She is survived by two sons, James B. Collins and wife Margaret, Indianapolis and William Edward Collins and wife Darlene, Tipton; two step-children, Forest E. Addington and Catherine Franklin; three grandchildren, Sally Morris, Nancy Yingst, and Warren Smith; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Lyle Smith & Ryan Smith.

Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Susan M. Cameron presiding and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Clay Allen

Clay Allen, 75, Tipton died early Thursday, March 15, 2007 at his residence. He was born April 12, 1931 in Jackson County, Tennessee, to Lewis K. & Betty A. (Gipson) Allen. On June 8, 1952 he married Pauline Helen Wolfe and she survives. He had lived in Tennessee and Sharpsville for many years.

He worked for General Motors, retiring in 1986. Clay was a member of the Indiana Deaf Club.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Helen Allen; one daughter, Patty Sue Park, Tipton; three grandchildren, Amanda N. Park, Alisha R. Park and Cody A. Park; four brothers and one sister, Ralph Allen, California, Eugene and Carl Allen of Tennessee, Paul Allen, Alabama and Barb Nemorc, Tennessee. One son, Thomas Allen, and one brother, Douglas Allen, are deceased.

His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Cliff Kelly presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Donal Ray Anderson

Donal Ray Anderson, 70, Tipton, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born January 10, 1938 in Moss, Tennessee to Montie & Dana (Netherton) Anderson. He married Ruth Ann Horton and she survives.

Donal retired in 1995 from Steel Parts Corporation after approximately 40 years. He was a board member of the steel Parts Federal Credit Union, a member of the Tipton Moose Lodge, American Legion and a life member of the Tipton Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, trips to Florida, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie; his mother, Dana Anderson; two children, Debbie Ann (Randy) Smith and Donal Mark (Pam) Anderson, all of Tipton; two brothers, Leroy (Helen) Anderson, Tipton and Tim C. (Shirley) Anderson, La Vergne, Tennessee; three sisters, Betty Boren, Celina, Tennessee, Anne (Larry) Anderson, Celina, Tennessee, and Nellie (Benny) Daris, Gallatin, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Brandon Paul Smith, Cody Justin Smith, Megan Elizabeth Anderson, Tyler Montie Anderson, and Hollie Ann Anderson.

His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Carr presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Joan B. Arnett

Joan B. Arnett, 76, Elwood, died at 12:19 a.m. Sunday, August 13, 2006 at Tipton Hospital. She was born August 13, 1930 in Tipton to Lawrence Joseph & Hazel Irene (Parnell) Bath.

Joan was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton and worked at Pioneer Hi-Bred, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed retirement while camping in the summer and wintering in Holiday, Florida, where she taught line dancing.

Joan is survived by her companion, Bill Durham; three children, Cynthia Brown, Sarasota, Florida, John Duncan and wife Pam, Indianapolis, and Charlotte Watson and husband Don, Tipton; one brother, Lawrence Bath, Jr. and wife Doris, Tipton; five grandchildren, Amber Denham, Jessica Hamrick, Ryan Brown, Katrina Roberts and Tabitha Watson; 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Cecil Duncan and Junior Arnett, three sisters and two brothers.

Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton with Rev. Kurt Gremel presiding. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Child and Family Services.

Kaylee Jo Badgley

Kaylee Jo Badgley, 11 months, Kempton, died Friday, August 17, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born August 25, 2006 in Carmel to Douglas M. & Karen Jo (Tate) Badgley and they survive.

She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Jerry & Sandy Tate, Kokomo; paternal grandparents, Michael & Judith Badgley, Tipton; great grandparents Dorothy Tate, Kokomo and Wilma Crouch, Leisure; special great aunt Carol Reese, Tipton; uncles Randy Tate, Atlanta, Dan Tate and his wife Stephanie, Fairmount, and Joe Tate, Kokomo; special cousins Bill & Diane Young, Windfall; lots of cousins and her special pets. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Paul Badgley.

Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Carr presiding. Burial will be in Kempton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
