Randall M. Glancy, 49
A former resident of Montpelier, Randall M. Glancy, 49, of Muncie, died at 4:34 a.m. Saturday, July 3 at his residence.
Mr. Glancy had worked for Indiana Box in Montpelier for the past 25 years. He was a lifelong resident of Blackford and Delaware Counties and spent his early years in the Montpelier and Hartford City area where he attended Roll and Montpelier schools and graduated from Blackford High School in 1973. He was a past president of the United Steel Workers of America Local 12213.
He was born May 25, 1955 in Hartford City to Max and Frances Glancy of Hartford City. Surviving in addition to the parents is a brother, Jeffrey W. Glancy of Montpelier. He was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda J. Glancy.
A eulogy service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glancy Funeral Homes Walker Chapel in Montpelier with Pastor Tom Bradley officiating and burial at Brookside Memorial Park in Montpelier.
Calling at the funeral home will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to the donor’s favorite charity.

Beulah Ilene Benjamin, 83
A native of Wells County, Beulah (Buckner) Benjamin, 83, of Huntington, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, July 3 at Norwood Nursing Center in Huntington.
She was born April 5, 1921 in Wells County to Walter and Bessie Sheets Buckner. Her first marriage was to Alexis Toth, who preceded her in death and her second marriage in 1964 was to Amos Benjamin. He died in September of 1998. Mrs. Benjamin worked in the payroll department at Studebaker Company in South Bend then worked as an accountant for Sears Roebuck Company in Niles, Mich., for 40 years.
She was a 1939 graduate of Liberty Center High School and attended Ball State Business College.
Surviving is a brother, Roger E. Buckner of Mt. Etna. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Buckner and a sister, Ruby Buckner.
Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home in Huntington. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Etna cemetery with Rev. Tom Defries officiating.

Karen S. Sommers, 53
A lifelong resident of Wells County, Karen S. Sommers, 53, died Sunday, July 4 at her rural Uniondale home.
She had been employed for 17 years with the Northern Wells Community Schools, most recently as the treasurer at Norwell High School. She was an active participant in the Vera Bradley Breast Cancer Drive and in Cancer Society “Relay for Life” events both in Bluffton and in Indianapolis.
Born Jan. 26, 1951 in Wells County to E. Dale and Miriam G. Highland Hoopingarner, her marriage in Uniondale on June 26, 1971 was to Robert A. Sommers, who survives.
Also surviving are the parents in rural Uniondale, two sons, Shane R. Sommers of Avon and Scott R. Sommers of Fishers; two brothers, Kent R. Hoopingarner of Fort Wayne and Rick D. Hoopingarner of Bluffton, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Life Community Church in Bluffton with pastors Kent Ringger and Rick Fiechter officiating. Burial will be in the Horeb cemetery.
Calling will be at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. Calling also for one hour at the church prior to the Friday service.
Preferred memorials are to the Vera Bradley Foundation, 2208 Production Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46808 or to Life Community Church, 428 South Oak St., Bluffton.

Coraetta Vendrick, 84
A native of Wells County, Coraetta Vendrick, 84, died Sunday, July 4 at her rural Huntington home. She was born Sept. 16, 1919 in Wells County to Charles and Mary Bloom Leonard. She was united in marriage to Ladarus J.E. Vendrick on July 11, 1936. He preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 2003.
She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Bippus. She was a homemaker and farmed many years with her husband. She also worked as a sander at Caswell-Runyan and as a bookkeeper at Mike’s Furniture Store in Bippus. For many years she served as a volunteer leader with Huntington County 4-H.
Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Vendrick of Phoenix, Ariz., and Charles F. Vendrick of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister, Anita Pfeiffer of Columbia City. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Amy Cecil, Lela Jervis, Ruth Smelser and Georgeanna Osterman.
Services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, with Pastor Robert Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory cemetery in southern Huntington County. Calling at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Calvary United Methodist Church.

Elsie L. Koehl, 85
The mother of Mrs. Martin (Cindy A. Douglas) Nutter of Bluffton, Elise Koehl, 85, of Fort Wayne died Monday, July 5 at Covington Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Huntington, she was born April 27, 1919 to Ira and Nora Hillegas Bowers. Her marriage was to Gerald M. Koehl, who survives.
She was employed in the camera department at Mr. Wiggs for five years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of TOPS.
In addition to the husband and daughter in Bluffton, other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Linda A.) Crable of Columbia City; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Ormsby and Gwenlyn Draper, and two brothers, Kenneth Bowers and Glenn Bowers.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home, Lakeside Park, with calling at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Lindenwood cemetery.

Kay K. Pierce, 60
A former resident of Geneva, Kay K. Pierce, 60, of rural Portland, died Monday, July 5 at Hospice Home in Fort Wayne after an extended illness.
A 1962 graduate of Geneva High School, she was the co-owner of W.M. Manufacturing, Inc., Pier Mac Plastics Inc. and Accelerated Curing Inc., all of Portland. She also was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and had formerly attended First United Methodist Church in Geneva. She was a philanthropist to the Portland Foundation, Portland Arts in the Parks, Portland Boys Club and the Jay County Fairgrounds.
Born Dec. 25, 1943 in Detroit, Mich., to Howard and Dorothy Kindell McCabe, her marriage on May 24, 1969 in Detroit was to Jerry Ray Pierce, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2001.
Survivors include the mother in Geneva and a brother, Robert McCabe of Berne. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Robert Pierce.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Geneva with Pastor Darrell Borders and Pastor Judy Fuller officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn cemetery in Geneva.
Calling will be Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva and at the church for one hour prior to the services Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to Fort Wayne Hospice Home or the First United Methodist Church of Geneva.

Roy E. Holley, 76
An electronics repairman for stores in Bluffton over many years and retired in 1982 from Corning Glass after 19 years in that Bluffton plant, Roy E. Holley, 76, of 231 North Bond St., Bluffton, died at 3:26 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
A sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1948-1951, he resided on Bond Street in Bluffton for 48 years. After his retirement from Corning, he operated Holley’s Sharp-All from 1982 to 2001. A CB radio enthusiast, he was known to his CB buddies in Bluffton as the “Joker.”
He was born May 6, 1928, in Huntington County to Floyd R. and Ola O. Melling Holley. His marriage was on May 11, 1948, in Muncie to Reba M. Dolby, who preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Sharon) Bennett of Poneto; two sons, Gary L. and Ron Holley, both of Bluffton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Raymond and Robert Holley; a sister, Mary Louise Denton, and a grandson.
Calling will be form 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Thoma-Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with Rev. Russell Buzzard and Rev. Walter Graeflin officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster cemetery, Huntington County. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton at the cemetery.
Memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene in Bluffton or Pleasant Grove Church in Huntington County.

Frieda L. Neuenschwander, 88
Following a brief illness, Frieda L. Neuenschwander, 88, a sister of Paul Meyer of Ossian, died at 4:15 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Swiss Village in Berne, where she had been a patient for the past week.
She was a longtime resident of Willshire, Ohio, but had resided in Berne the past five years.
She was born July 29, 1915, in Wells County to Edward and Flonie Crist Meyer. Her marriage was on Nov. 1, 1934, to Kenneth Neuenschwander, who preceded her in death on June 28, 1988.
A homemaker, she, along with her husband, owned and operated Willshire Hardware and State Line LP for many years up to retirement in 1979. She was a member of the Bible Believers Fellowship of Lima, Ohio.
Surviving, in addition to the Ossian brother, are a daughter, Mrs. Winston (Vicki) Lehman of Geneva; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were one brother, Max Meyer, and three sisters, Virginia Meyer, Evelyn Grandlienard and Hazel Gilliom.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home at Decatur, where services will be at10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Jeff Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Willshire cemetery. Memorials to Bible Believers Fellowship Mission Fund or Gideon Bibles.

Ralph N. Allen, 92
Father of Mrs. David (Charlotte) Hissong of Ossian, Rev. Ralph N. Allen, 92, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at Ossian Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Rev. Allen was retired as a minister from the Free Methodist Church.
He was born July 11, 1911, in Longville, Minnesota, to Dr. Archibald and Bertie Sanders Allen. His marriage was on Oct. 23, 1933, to Elizabeth Cale, who preceded him in death on July 30, 1992.
Surviving, in addition to the Ossian daughter, are a foster daughter, Esther Patrick of Vicksburg, Michigan; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A son and grandson are deceased.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at the Bluffton First Church of the Nazarene.There will be no visitation.
Memorials to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana in Berne.

Kenneth D. Rippey, 71
Father of Mrs. Ray (Sue Ellen) Paxson of rural Bryant, Kenneth D. Rippey, 71, Pennville, died Tuesday afternoon, July 6, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Sept. 10, 1932 in Laclede County, Mo., to Emit and Pearl Eilenstine Rippy, he graduated from Pennville High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army during the early 1950’s.
He was a member of the Pennville United Methodist Church, the Pennville American Legion, The Portland Disabled American Veterans, the 40 & 8 Club of Portland and the Pennville International Order of Odd Fellows.
In September of 1990, Mr. Rippy became the second Portland resident to receive a heart transplant.
In addition to the rural Bryant daughter, he is survived by a son, Brian, of Ridgeville; two sisters, Ida Bernice Wayman of Pennville and Barbara Cansler, Wabash; and three grandchildren.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
Services at 11 a.m. Friday will be at the Pennville Chapel of Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Wafford will officiate and burial will follow in the Pennville IOOF Twin Hills cemetery near Pennville. The Pennville American Legion will conduct full military graveside rites.
Calling at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 8 p.m..
Memorials may be made to the First Responders of Pennville or the Pennville City Park.

Mary M. Lindsey, 88
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene, rural Berne, for Mary M. Lindsey, 88, a lifelong resident of Jefferson Twp. in Adams County, who died at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7.
Born April 2, 1916 to Lee and Rachel Young Lindsey, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
She retired from Berco in Berne in 1979 and enjoyed quilting.
Calling at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be at Willard cemetery in Berne.
Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.
