E. Marguerite Cash, 97
E. Marguerite Cash, 97, of Bluffton, died Sunday, Aug. 1 at the Meadowvale Health Care Center.
Born in Des Arc, Ark. on Oct. 24, 1906 to Frank and Jessie R. Carlson Matson, she married E. Carl Cash on Sept. 3, 1927 in Covington, Ky.; he died May 23, 1989. She was a housewife and also worked at The Evening News. She was a member of the Mulberry Street Wesleyan Church and a 50-year member of the Home Demonstration Club. She was a housewife and worked for the Evening News.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Schoeff of Poneto; three sisters, Audrey Matson, Mrs. John E. (Mary) Smith and Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Gerwig, all of Bluffton; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dixie Randall.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Services will also be held there on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Donald Hosier officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church.

Wayne Robinson, 89
Wayne Leonard Robinson, 89, of Ossian, died at 8:07 a.m. Saturday, July 31 at the Ossian Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born on August 11, 1914 in Fort Wayne to Fredrick E. and Orpha Ott Robinson, he married Helen M. Crow on Oct. 21, 1935 in Marion; she survives.
A 1933 graduate of North Side High School in Fort Wayne, he also was a former Zanesville resident. He was a tool and die maker for the Bowser Pump Company for 25 years, and at the Magnavox Company for 16 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Markle Church of Christ.
Other survivors include a daughter, Donna Bradburn of Ossian; two sons, Fredrick Robinson of Christmas Island, Australia and Leslie Joe Robinson of Racine, Wisc.; a brother, Virgil Robinson of Paradise, Calif.; a sister, Esther Cunningham of Sun City, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Carsten.
Calling hours are this evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hoverstock cemetery in Zanesville. Preferred memorials to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Mack E. Buckland, 71
Mack E. Buckland, 71, of Jackson Township, died at11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
A Wells County native and lifelong resident, he was born on July 15, 1933 to Howard W. and Iva Glascock Buckland. He married Judith Pulley on Nov. 5, 1976 in Wells County; she survives. He attended Jackson Center High School and worked at Franklin Electric, retiring in 1988. He was also a farmer and a former 4-H leader.
Other survivors include two sons, William Buckland of Huntington and Barry Buckland of Warren; three daughters, Kim Cassiday of Liberty Center, Karen Herman of Ossian and Kathy Neuenschwander of Bluffton; two step sons, Gregory Johnson of Hot Springs, Ark. and Aaron Johnson of Warren; a step daughter, Pam Morris of Poneto; three sisters, Katherine Slater of Warren, Donna Black of Marion and Kay Randall of Indianapolis; 15 grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Ogan, Bonnie Boxell and Betty Searles; and a brother, Roger Buckland.
Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial in Asbury cemetery in Montpelier. Preferred memorials to the Wells County 4-H Livestock Barn.

Kenneth A. Cloud, 72
Kenneth A. Cloud, 72, of Warren, died at 10:34 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at Marion General Hospital.
Born in Huntington on January 26, 1932 to Arthur and Belle Gaiser Cloud, he married Linda R. Laymon on June 1, 1952 in Warren; she survives.
A 1950 graduate of Warren High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was owner-operator of Cloud Floor Covering in Warren for 18 years, and was also a service manager in floor covering in Mesa, Ariz. for 18 years. The past seven years he installed carpeting locally. He was a member of the Warren United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include four sons, Michael A. of Chesterton, Jeffry L. of Brighton, Colo., Phillip J. of Mesa, Ariz., and Bradley K. Cloud of Hillsboro, Ore.; a brother, Cloid Cloud of Warren; a sister, Maxine Boyer of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Warren United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Malone, Pastor Michael Cloud and Rev. Clyde Gunn officiating. Calling hours are this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Warren.
Preferred memorials to the Warren United Methodist Church or the New Life Wesleyan Church in Chesterton.

William J. O’Banion, 68
William J. O’Banion, 68, of Muncie, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, July 24 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Born in Grant County on May 22, 1936, he retired in 1991 from Meadowgold/Best Ever in Muncie. He was a member of Teamsters Local 135 and attended the Buck Creek Church of the Brethren in Muncie.
He is survived by his mother, M. Lucille (Clark) O’Banion of Warren; a daughter, Dawn Elder of Muncie; a step son, Dion McGaughy of Muncie; three sisters, Janice Ramp of Warren, Janet Daugherty of West Lafayette and Mary Ann Zoda of Van Buren; two brothers, Patrick O’Banion of Huntington and Thomas O’Banion of Jonesboro; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chester E. O’Banion; and two brothers, Edwin and James O’Banion.
Services were held today at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel in Warren. Burial was in Van Buren cemetery. Preferred memorials to the family.

Ethel B. Reif, 99
A resident of the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home since 1978, Ethel B. Reif, 99, died at the home Monday, July 26, at 2:15 p.m.
Born Feb. 27, 1905 in Douglas, Mich., to Robert and Winnie Baker Dempster, her first marriage was to Richard Boyce, who preceded her in death. Her second marriage was to George J. Reif, who died Feb. 16, 1973.
A homemaker most of her life, she also operated two restaurants in Silver Springs, Fla. She was a member of the Mt. Dora First United Methodist Church in Mt. Dora, Fla., where she was an honorary member of the church board. She was currently a member of the Applegate Chapel, Warren.
Survivors include her son, Richard Boyce, of Ocala, Fla., seven step-grandchildren and 30 step-great grandchildren.
Services at 2 p.m. Thursday will be at the United Methodist Memorial Home with Rev. John Pattison officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill cemetery, Warren.
Calling hours will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Glancy Funeral Homes-H. Brown & Son Chapel.

Mary L. Dowty, 83
A former Ossian resident and sister of Dorothy Patten of Ossian, Mary L. Dowty, 83, of Acworth, Georgia, died last Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia.
She was born June 22, 1921, in Allen County, a daughter of Alfred and Edith Counselor Johnson. Her marriage was on April 12, 1941, at Lima, Ohio, to Wendell F. Dowty, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1994.
She was a former employee of Fort Wayne General Electric and was retired from Amoco Oil where she was a lab supervisor. She was formerly a member of the Ossian United Methodist Church and a past member of the Ossian Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving, in addition to the Ossian sister, are two sons, Ronald L. Dowty of Leo and Jerry W. Dowty of Acworth, Georgia; another sister, Norma Snyder of Fort Wayne; four brothers, Robert Johnson of Hamilton, Ind., and Carl, Raymond and Merle Johnson, all of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Arlon Johnson, is deceased.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Lawn cemetery at Ossian.

Adelbert “Debbie” Conrad, 85
A retired Wells and Adams County farmer and milk hauler for 50 years, Adelbert “Debbie” Conrad, 85, of Decatur died at 11:32 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 at Adams County Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 3, 1918 in Preble Township, Adams County to Martin and Frieda Bauermeister Conrad, his marriage on Dec. 25, 1940 was to Hildegard Buuck, who survives.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur and had been a former elder and trustee of the church.
Surviving in addition to the wife are a daughter, Bonnie Bultemeyer of rural Decatur; a son, Leslie Conrad of rural Decatur, two brothers, Marvin Conrad and Waldo Conrad, both of rural Decatur, and a sister, Waneta Franz of Decatur. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur with Pastor Scott Bruick and Pastor John Fuchs officiating. Burial will be in Decatur cemetery.
Calling at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur will be Thursday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Calling also at the church one hour prior to services.
Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church, Worship for Shut-ins or FSMA in honor of Celia Bultemeyer.

Lewis M. Smith, 77
Lewis M. Smith, a union carpenter with Local #332, died at 5:25 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 at Chalet Village in Berne. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines and receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of Berne American Legion Post 468 and Geneva VFW.
Born Oct. 28, 1926 in Marion to Archie and Gladys Dague Smith, his marriage on April 12, 1946 in Monroe was to Betty Christener, who pereceded him in death in 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Smith of Decaur and Fred Smith of Geneva; a daughter, Susan Rich of Atlanta; a sister, Wanda Lester of Little Rock, Ark., a half-brother, Larry Smith of Dectur, half-sister Norma Jean Harrington of Lansing, Mich., eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne with Rev. Keith Rupp officiating and burial in M.R.E. cemetery. Calling at the funeral home will be today from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday for one hour prior to services.
Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Berne Post 468.
Preferred memorials are to West Missinary Church.

Alice “Joy” Steward, 79
Wells County resident Alice “Joy” Steward, 79, of rural Markle, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at the Ossian Health Care Center.
Born in Belmont, Ill. on Dec. 21, 1924 to Franklin and Ada Flick Hill, she worked at the Indiana State Development Center for 10 years, as well as the Indiana School for the Deaf and was a house mother for delinquent girls. She was a member of the Light House Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, LaVonne Smith of Markle, Beverly Denbo of Indianapolis, and Donna Lawrence of Dunedin, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home Winchester Rd. Chapel in Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Covington cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church or to The Charis House.

Phyllis E. Stowe, 78
Phyllis Elaine Stowe, 78, of Ossian, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born in Fort Wayne on Aug. 30, 1925 to Gerald and Bessie Wyatt Houser, she married Minor H. Stowe on Aug. 28, 1945 in Fort Wayne; he died in 1974.
She was a member of the Ossian First Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star. She worked at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne as a payroll clerk for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1974.
Survivors include three daughters, Jill Sheehan of West Dundee, Ill., Penny Ruder of Park Ridge, Ill., and Patti Jo Foy of Brocton, N.Y.; one stepson, Minor Stowe, Jr. of North Pole, Alaska; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian. Services will be held there on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Lyle Ewing officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Lawn cemetery in Ossian. Preferred memorials to the church.

Hunter McKenzie Page Byers, 8
The eight-year-old daughter of Robert and Nicole (Collett) Byers of Portland, Hunter McKenzie Page Byers, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, at home.
Born in Bluffton Feb. 7, 1996, she was a second grader at Redkey Elementary School, a member of the Jay County Jefferson Patriots 4-H Club, the First Baptist Church of Morning Side in Muncie and the Girl Scouts.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Robert, and a sister, Jessyca, both at home; grandparents Robert and Linda Byers of Redkey and Dave and Peggy Dotson of Portland.; great-grandparents, Ruby Moon of Albany and Jerry and Helen Dotson of Union City; several aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
A grandfather, Nick Collett, preceded her in death.
Services at 11 a.m. Saturday will be held at Main St. United Methodist Church in Redkey with burial to follow at Hillcrest cemetery south of Redkey.
Calling hours will be from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at M.J.S. Mortuaries-Redkey Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Jay County Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church of Morning Side.
