D. Wayne Teeple, 78
Brother of Raymond Teeple of Craigville, D. Wayne Teeple, 78, Decatur, died at 6:33 a.m. Friday at Adams County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Adams County Dec. 27, 1925, to Albert and Leona Bartling Teeple, his marriage to the the former Carla M. Cravens took place July 25, 1986. She survives.
A member of the Decatur Church of God, he retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne in 1981 following 18 years of service.
Additional survivors include a son, Wayne, of Colorado Springs, Col.; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Teresa A.) Schuemann of Decatur and Mrs. Michael (Cynthia) Yoes, Austin, Texas; two other brothers, Robert, of Decatur and Albert Jr. of Sun City, Ariz.; four sisters, Jessie Grepke of Fort Wayne, Esther Adams of Berne, Zella Haines of Decatur and Mrs. Jim (Patricia) Marks of Sun City.
A brother, Richard, and a sister, Geraldine Lauck, preceded him in death.
Calling from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday will be at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home Decatur.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Dr. Robert Brink and Pastor Sandy Hildebrand officiating. Burial will follow at Tricker cemetery, rural Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the Decatur Church of God or Pathways at Woodcrest.

Lillian M. Western, 83
Lillian M. Western, 83, of 534 South Elm St., Montpelier, died at 3:50 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2004, at the Americare Living Center in Hartford City, where she resided the past three weeks.
Mrs.Western had moved to Montpelier in 1993 from Pontiac, Michigan. She was a homemaker and a member of the Montpelier Church of Christ.
Born January15, 1921, in Jackson, Kentucky, she was a daughter of Charlie and Alice Overby Brewer. Her marriage was on July 20, 1945 at Toledo, Ohio, to John J. “Jack” Western, who preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1999.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Donna) Peyerk and Mrs. Elwyn (Elsie) Dalley, both of Montpelier, and Mrs. Bill (Pamela) Kincaid of Harrisburg, AR.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A son, John Western, a sister and four brothers are deceased.
Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Don Paden officiating. Burial will be in Perry Mount Park cemetery, Pontiac, Michigan.

Margaret L. Cahoon, 85
Services for Margaret Louise Cahoon, 85, of Ossian, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home. She died at 10:32 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Ossian Health Care Center.
Born July 11, 1919 in Indianapolis to Samuel and Bessie (Mayne) Thomas Allbright, she married Robert W. Cahoon, Sr. on Oct. 8, 1945 in Anderson; he died Jan. 31, 2002. She lived in Anderson for 59 years before moving to Ossian in 1998. She worked at Delco Remy in Anderson and the Anderson Banking Company for 10 years, retiring in 1985. She attended Epworth United Methodist Church and was a member of Delta Sigma Kappa.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Dunn of Fillmore; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Rev. Robert W. Cahoon, Jr.; and a half-brother, Calvin Thomas.
Calling hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Don Wilks will officiate at the services; burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church or the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.

James “Buss” Harris, 95
James O. “Buss” Harris, 95, rural Bluffton, died suddenly at 7:48 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born on April 30, 1909 in Liberty Township to Edward and Celia Moore Harris, he married Mary Jane Passmore in Marion on June 22, 1940; she survives.
Mr. Harris was a lifelong farmer in Wells County, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bluffton.
Other survivors include a son, Richard E. Harris of Keystone; a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Lois Jean) Gallaway of Cimarron, N.M.; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, and one grandchild.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Calling hours are today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, and Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery. Preferred memorials to the church.

Barbara J. Masterson, 71
Services were held Monday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home for former Bluffton resident Barbara J. (Reichard) Masterson, 71, who died Thursday, Sept. 16 at Parkview Memorial Hospital.
Born in Fort Wayne, she was a homemaker and was married to former Bluffton resident Billy Masterson of Fort Wayne, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Blaine (Diana) Miller of Fort Wayne and a granddaughter.
Burial was in /Highland Park cemetery.
Preferred memorials to Cancer Services of Allen County.

Luther Amos Dettmer, 92
Retired former president and district manager of the Uniondale and Mid-Indiana Telephone Companies, centered in Ossian, for a 26-year span, Luther Amos Dettmer, 92, of Ossian, also a former Wells County Commissioner, died Sept. 18, 2004, at Golden Years Homestead.
Before the long telephone leadership career, he was a contractor and farmer. He served as head of the Ossian Lions Club and Ossian Booster Club amid his numerous community services. He also was known in the area as an avid horseshoe player.
Mr. Dettmer further was president of the J. K. Johnson Chapter of the Independent Telephone Association. He was a member of the St. Marks Lutheran Church at 16933 Thiele Road, Fort Wayne.
Born April 9, 1912, in Wells County, he was the son of John and Ida Mackey Dettmer. His marriage was on Oct. 22, 1932, to Meta H. Buuck, who died on Dec. 26, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Alberta) Melcher and Mrs. Gene (Valera) Evans, both of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Herman, Albert, Charles, Fred, William and Victor, and five sisters, Annetta Springer, Ella Springer, Christine McCune, Lela Schmidt and Frieda Brueck.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian and at the St. Marks Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne on Saturday for one hour prior to the funeral service. The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Richard Vonesh presiding. Burial will be in Oak Lawn cemetery, Ossian.
Memorials to St. Marks Lutheran Church or Worship for Shut-Ins.

Lola L. Abbott, 98
A sister of Orval Gerber of Bluffton, Lola L. Abbott, 98, of Decatur, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Adams County Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Born March 22, 1906, in Adams County, she was a daughter of William and Ida Mae Neuenschwander Gerber. Her marriage was on June 27, 1925, in Coldwater, Michigan to C. C. “Sandy” Abbott, who died on July 30, 1974.
She was a homemaker and attended the Decatur Missionary Church.
Surviving, in addition to the Bluffton brother, are two sons, Wendell L. Abbott of Decatur and Vernon A. Abbott of Carthage, Indiana; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Patricia J.) Bittner of Decatur; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Don Abbott, and one sister, Devona Worden.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m.and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home at Decatur, where services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Mark Beers officiating. Burial will be in Decatur cemetery. Preferred memorials to Decatur Missionary Church or donor’s choice.

Julie A. Rachel, 40
A native of Decatur, Julie A. Rachel, 40, of Antwerp, Ohio, died at 6:39 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, of injuries in an auto accident at U.S. 24 and SR 101 at Woodburn in Allen County.
Born in Decatur on Dec. 4, 1963, she was a daughter of John and Patricia Velez Hartman, who survive at Antwerp. Her marriage was on April 27, 1989, to Louis Rachel, who also survives.
Mrs. Rachel was employed as an assembler at Parker Hannifin in New Haven and was attending classes at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne. She was a member of the Paulding Fish & Game Club.
Surviving, in addition to the husband and parents, are a daughter, Jessica, and a son, Louis, both at home; a sister, Tina Hartman of Antwerp, and a brother, John Hartman Jr. of Hicksville, Ohio and relatives in Bluffton.
Calling will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home in Antwerp, where services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, with Deacon Robert Nighswander officiating. Burial will be in Maumee cemetery at Antwerp. Memorials to her children.

Joan C. Kramer, 78
Mother of Mrs. Sam (Beth M.) Nagel of Ossian, Joan C. (Wunderlin) Kramer, 78, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at home in Fort Wayne.
Recently retired as office manager with Dr. Garland D. Anderson, she was a volunteer at St. Andrews Soup Kitchen and a member of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church.
Surviving in addition to the Ossian daughter, are the husband, Robert A. Kramer, three additional daughters, Laura A. Kramer and Mrs. Monte (Amy J.) Winebrenner, both of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Marty (Judy K.) Beck of Grabill; two brothers, Elmer Wunderlin Jr. of Fort Wayne and Jerry Wunderlin of Lacey, Washington; one sister, Helen Marie Kane of Niles, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Calling will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home in Fort Wayne with rosary at 4:30. A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 7215 St. Joe Road. Burial will be in Catholic cemetery. Memorials to Parkview Home Health Care & Hospice or masses.

Evelyn B. Adler, 89
Evelyn B. Adler, 89, formerly of Decatur, died at Bluffton Reginal Medical Center at 3:30 a.m. today, Sept. 23.
Born in Adams County March 17, 1915 to Marion and Von Vera Baltzell Reber, her marriage to Lester Adler took place Sept. 2, 1939. He preceded her in death Aug. 14, 1998.
A homemaker, she was formerly employed by General Electric in Decatur and Berco in Berne. She was a member of the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethern and a member of the church’s Ladies Aid.
Survivors include a son, Dale, of Decatur; twin daughters Coleen Faye Adler, Connersville, and Kathleen Rodgers, Decatur; a third daughter, Mrs. Dale (Wanda) Bieberich, Decatur; a brother Chalmer Reber, Decatur; a sister, Mary Mabrey of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Five brothers preceded her in death, Robert, Albert, Byron, Dean and Glen Reber.
Services at 2 p.m. Sunday will be held at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren with Rev. Jay Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Calling from 6-8 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday will be at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Calling will also be held one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren or to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.

Wilodean M. Berkey, 80
A resident of the Warren United methodist memorial Home, Wilodean M. Berkey, 80, died at at 6:14 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born April 16, 1924 in Huntington County to Howard “Chub” and Ethel Hall Walter, her first marriage was to Dennis J. Couch, who died Jan. 22, 1991. Her second marriage was to Earl berkey, who preceded her in death May 31, 1997.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Salamonie Church of the Brethren and was a 1942 graduate of Lancaster High School in Huntington County. She was a resident of Jefferson Twp. in Huntington County for many years and lived for 12 years in Sebring, Fla. before entering the United Methodist Home in May of 1999.
Surviving are a son, Steven Walter Couch, Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jose Ann) Atkinson, of Huntington and Diane Bradford of Warren, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling and services will be held privately. Pastor Mel Zumbrun will officiate the services with burial at Lancaster cemetery, Huntington County.
Memorials may be made to the Salamonie Church of the Brethern.
Arrangements are in charge of Glancy Funeral Homes-H. Brown & Son Chapel.
