Linda ‘Kay’ Lassiter, 55
Formerly a resident of Ossian, Linda “Kay” Lassiter, 55, of Inverness, Fla., died Sept. 20 in Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.
She had moved from Ossian to Inverness in 1982.
Mrs. Lassiter was born in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., a daughter of Alvis and Ella Lee Gillman. The mother survives and resides in Inverness.
Surviving also are her husband, Wayne; a son, Keith A. Lassiter, a daughter, Sheila K. Lassiter, and a brother, Donald Gillman, all of Inverness; a sister, Barbara Cecil of Peninsula, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, James Lassiter of Ossian.
A memorial service was held Sept. 25 at Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness.
Memorials to Hospice of Citrus County, Fla., or to Key Training Center.
Arrangements locally were handled by Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Homes Ossian Chapel.

Kenneth W. Saalfrank, 78
Father of Kathleen J. Brehm of Ossian, Kenneth W. Saalfrank, 78, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, Sept. 29, at Riverbend Health Care Center at Fort Wayne.
Born in Fort Wayne, he retired in 1984 as a lineloader from General Electric Co. after 42 1/2 years.
Mr. Saalfrank was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving, in addition to the daughter at Ossian, are his wife, Gwendolyn; a son, Douglas L. of Lawton, Okla; another daughter, Julie Obunger of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Ruth Plummer and Lois Kokosa, both of For Wayne; a brother, Howard C. of Dearborn, Mich.; two stepsons, Jerry Pieper and Joseph Pieper, both of Fort Wayne; two stepdaughters, Judi Krider of Fort Wayne and Janet Leatherman of Avilla; three grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 2313 South Hanna St., Fort Wayne, where calling hours will be for 90 minutes prior to services. Burial will be in Concordia cemetery Gardens.
Visitation hours also will be Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Rd., Fort Wayne.
Memorials to the church or to Turnstone Center for Disabled Children and Adults.

Ralph Edward Jacobs, 75
A retired U.S. mail carrier, Ralph Edward Jacobs, 75, of Ossian, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Ossian Health Care.
Mr. Jacobs was a U.S. armed forces veteran, having served in both World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of the Church of Christ at Markle and American Legion Post 111 at Bluffton.
He was born in Centralia, Ill., Feb. 14, 1926.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; two sons, Robin Jacobs of Wolf Lake and David Jacobs of Craigville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Susan Renea, is deceased.
Services at 2 p.m. Saturday will be at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home in Ossian, where calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Horeb cemetery near Uniondale.

Dean L. Landrum, 80
Dean L. Landrum, 80, of Wabash, formerly of Bippus, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Wabash County Hospital in Wabash.
Mr. Landrum retired in 1983 after 54 years as a farmer. During that time he also worked at Bippus Farm Supply for more than 20 years. He spent 22 years, from 1977 to 1999, during the winter months, in Tucson, Ariz.
He was a 1939 graduate of Lancaster High School in Huntington County and was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ and the Bippus Lions Club.
Mr. Landrum was born in Huntington County Aug. 12, 1921 to Raymond and Lilly Burnworth Landrum. His marriage in Huntington County on Dec. 23, 1945 was Beulah M. Colclesser, who survives.
Additional survivors are a son, Gerald of North Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Janet) Cantrell of Wabash; three brothers, Paul of Huntington, Wayne of Old Town, Fla., and Myron of Warren; a sister, Mary Louise Rich of Huntington; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A sister and a grandson are deceased.
Services at 2 p.m. Saturday will be at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. William Hainstock officiating. Interment will be in Shock cemetery in Huntington County.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to the St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Richard ‘Roy’ Fields, 99
Richard “Roy” Fields, 99, a retired farmer, school bus driver and seed salesman, died at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Swiss Village in Berne.
In addition to farming, Mr. Fields was a bus driver for Hartford Schools for 20 years, and a salesman for Funks G Seeds and Swift Fertilizer Co. He was a former member of the Adams County Farm Bureau.
He was born in Adams County Feb. 11, 1902 to David and Lucinda Snyder Fields. His marriage in Adams County on Feb. 9, 1922 was to J. Nema Runyon, who died in 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean “Norma Jean” Aspy of Bryant; three sons, Robert of St. Louis Park, Minn., David of Gaston, and Richard of Geneva; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne with Rev. Randall Luther officiating. Burial will be in Alberson cemetery at Linn Grove.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time for services.
Memorials to Swiss Village, to Cross United Church of Christ Assistance Fund or to Adams County Community Foundation’s Heart Fund.

Gladys A. Becker, 99
Gladys A. Becker, 99, of Markle, died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the Markle Health Care Center.
Mrs. Becker worked as a receptionist/clerk for 25 years at the Markle Drug Store. She attended the United Methodist Church at Markle.
She was born in Markle Aug. 4, 1902, a daughter of Douglas and Lillian Kelsey Lesh.
Surviving are a sister, Hilda Lesh of Fort Wayne, and two nephews, Douglas LeMaster of Howe and Charles LeMaster of Fort Wayne. A sister, Lucille LeMaster, and a nephew are deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel and interment will be in Horeb cemetery near Uniondale.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to the Markle Park Foundation or to the Markle United Methodist Church.

Mildred A. Welch, 89 -- Rites Pending
Mildred A. Welch, 89, of Hartford City, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Blackford County Hospital in Hartford City. Arrangements are pending at Glancy Funeral Homes Walker Chapel at Montpelier.

Timothy K. Meade, 51
Timothy K. Meade, 51, a deputy sergeant with the Wells County Sheriff’s Department, was pronounced dead Thursday evening at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center after suffering an apparent massive heart attack.
Sgt. Meade was associated with the sheriff’s department since starting in 1974 as a reserve deputy. He was appointed a regular deputy in 1975. and became chief deputy in 1981. He was elected in 1990 as sheriff for a single four-year term.
Sgt. Meade also was active in the Democratic Party and was elected its chairman the past Aug. 22 to fill a vacancy.
In addition, he was a past president of the Advisory Board of the Wells County Community Corrections and was a member of the Indiana Sheriffs Association and the Fraternal Order of Police. He also was a certified K-9 officer.
He was born in Bluffton March 4, 1950 to Avis and Vallera Gray Meade and was a 1968 graduate of Norwell High School. He resided in rural Ossian.
Surviving are a son, Nick K. of Ossian; his fiancee, Scheryl Krumma of Ossian; and five brothers, Pat of Rochester, Rex of Ontario, Canada, Mike and Greg, both of Bluffton, and Jeff of Fort Wayne.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton with Rev. Douglas McClure officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at Bluffton.
Visitation hours will be Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. and from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Goodwin chapel.

Jordan S. Murray, 82
A former resident of Bluffton, Jordan S. Murray, 82, died suddenly Sunday, Nov. 25, at his residence in Sarasota, Fla.
Mr. Murray was a metallurgical engineer.
He was born in the Canal Zone, Panama, Central America, a son of Homer H. and Phebe Jordan Murray. His marriage during the World War II period was to Betty Stafford, who survives.
Mr. Murray served during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a 1937 graduate of Bluffton High School.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters and a son. Two brothers, Homer and James Murray, who had resided in Bluffton, are deceased.
Services were held in Sarasota.
Local arrangements are by Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home in Bluffton.

Beatrice (Pinney) Huffman, 92
Rites Pending
Beatrice (Pinney) Huffman, 92, who resided at 206 Park Ave. in Hartford City, died at 7:5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home in Bluffton.

Audra Paxson, 91
A retired elementary school teacher, Audra Paxson, 91, of rural Bluffton, died at 11:08 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Paxson taught third grade for 31 years, retiring in 1974. She taught 13 years in Michigan and 18 years at the Columbian Elementary School in Bluffton.
She was a member of the Six Mile Church, Church Women United, Retired Teachers Association, Wells County Historical Society, Home Ec Club, Bluffton Professional Women, Wells County Council on Aging and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Paxson earned her master’s degree in education at Central State University in Michigan.
She was born in Wells County Feb. 7, 1910 to George and Ethel Biddle Davenport. Her marriage at Lake City, Mich., on Oct., 5, 1945 was to Frederick M. Paxson, who died June 7, 1966.
Surviving are two sons, Tom and Daniel, both of Bluffton; two brothers, Keith Davenport of Lake City, Mich., and Jay Davenport of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Bob (Betty) Beebe of Summerville, S.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Three brothers are deceased.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Goodwin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Emmett Cox officiating. Burial will be in Six Mile cemetery.
Visitation hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Memorials to Six Mile Church or to Wells County Council on Aging.
