Margaret Boyd Sabatini, 87
Mother of Mrs. Jeff (Nancy) Hewitt, clerk-treasurer of Bluffton, Margaret Boyd Sabatini, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 2, at a hospital in Huntsville, Ala.
Mrs. Sabatini, widow of Nello Sabatini, previously resided in West Palm Beach, Fla. She had retired in 1985 from Purdue University at West Lafayette, Ind.
Surviving, in addition to the daughter in Bluffton, are a son, Jack B. Sabatini of Huntsville; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Hill cemetery in Huntsville with Rev. Edward C. Gartrell and Rev. Randall T. Jenkins officiating.
Visitation hours are today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Fred Locke, 83
Funeral services for Fred Locke, 83, of Muncie will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel are today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Locke died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was a former resident of the Bluffton and Berne areas before moving to Muncie in 1983.
Mr. Locke was retired from Drake Petroleum Co. and Westfall Drilling, both at Evansville.
He was born Sept. 20, 1919 at Winchester, Ky., a son of William F. and Nellie E. Chapman Locke. He attended Bluffton High School. His marriage in Adams County on Aug. 19, 1939 was to Majesta Faye Baumgartner, who survives.
Additional survivors are a daughter, Diane Faye Christy of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Jerry Locke of Evansville; and a granddaughter.
Rev. Daniel Perry will officiate at services and burial will be in the MRE cemetery at Berne.

Jack A. Thornburgh, 75
Funeral services for Jack A. Thornburgh, 75, of Keystone, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel, in Montpelier.
Visitation hours at the funeral chapel will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday before the services.
Mr. Thornburgh died at 4:04 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Thornburgh, who retired in 1991 from Indiana Box Corp. in Montpelier after 24 years, formerly resided in Grant, Blackford and Wells counties.
He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II, from May 30, 1945 to Nov. 9, 1946, and earlier had been engaged as a semi truck driver. He served as a chaplain at the AmeriCare Nursing Home in Hartford City and at the Blackford County Jail.
Mr. Thornburgh was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Hartford City and was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson Township High School at Upland. He was an avid bee keeper.
He was born in Grant County Feb. 6, 1927, a son of Arthur Douglas and Emma M. Steinhilber Thornburgh. His marriage at Hartford City on Nov. 11, 1948 was to Ruth E. Wilson, who died Dec. 11, 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Kathy) French of Decatur and Mrs. Ron (Connie) Huffman of Hartford City; three sons, Doug of Heuvelton, N.Y., and Mark and Jack II, both of Bluffton; two sisters, Mrs. William (Garnet) Boles and Mrs. Herbert (Viola Madge)Nuckols of Bryant; four brothers, Alfred and Cletus, both of Upland, Lewis of Monroe, Mich.; and Raymond of Dunkirk; a son-in-law, LaDon Broderick of Throeau, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A daughter, Joy Broderick, a brother and a grandchild are deceased.
Rev. Paul Brown will officiate at services and burial will be in Brookside Memorial Park at Montpelier.

Robert N. Carnes Sr., 83
A retired railroad employee, Robert N. Carnes Sr., 83, died Monday, Feb. 3, at his residence in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Carnes worked for Conrail for 40 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II. He was a member of Colony Heights Church of Christ in Fort Wayne and of American Legion Post 296.
He was born in Wells County Sept. 30, 1919.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia C.; a son, Robert Neal Jr. of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Deborah K. Gavette of Fort Wayne; three stepsons, Steven A. Saxton of New Haven, and James M. and David J. Saxton, both of Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Anna M. Saxton Best of Markle; a sister, Adahleen Lewis of Ossian; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. A daughter, Judith L. Green, is deceased.
Services at 11 a.m. Friday will be at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne, where visitation hours will be Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.

Leota L. Lindeman, 95
Leota L. Lindeman, 95, a former resident of Huntington and Fort Wayne, died at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Norwood Nursing Center in Huntington.
Mrs. Lindeman worked in manufacturing for many years at General Electric in Fort Wayne, retiring in 1969.
She was born in Huntington County June 17, 1907, a daughter of Gideon and Addie Class Stetzel. A first marriage in May 1926 in Huntington was to Ned Raver, who is deceased; her second marriage on April 3, 1953 in Fort Wayne was to Everett Lindeman, who died in July 1984.
Surviving are a son, Thomas E. Raver of Albion; a daughter, Mrs. James (Jean) McIlrath of Huntington; a stepson, Ralph “Bud” Lindeman of Fort Wayne; a sister, Annabelle Werling of New Haven; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, a step-grandson, four brothers, a sister and a half-brother are deceased.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Dr. Sam Young officiating. Interment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.
Calling hours at the funeral chapel will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Nellie Roush, 84
Nellie Roush, 84, who attended the McNatt Church in Wells County, died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the United Methodist Memorial Home at Warren.
A graduate of Van Buren High School, she assisted her husband in many years of farming and both had spent several winters in Sebring, Fla. Mrs. Roush enjoyed working in ceramics.
She was born at Marion Nov. 20, 1918, a daughter of Jesse and Ethel Keltner Endsley. Her husband, Levart Roush, and two brothers are deceased.
Surviving are five sons, James of Montpelier, Melvin of Marion, Ronald of Van Buren, and Philip and Richard, both of Hartford City; two brothers, Leroy and Lester Endsley; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday will be at Ferguson Funeral Home in Van Buren with Rev. J. Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster cemetery in Huntington County.
Visitation hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Albert H. Thompson, 67
A resident of Warren since 1957, Albert H. Thompson, 67, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Thompson was a tool and die maker at General Motors - CPC in Marion until retiring in 1998. He also was engaged in farming in Jefferson Township in Huntington County and held a private pilot’s license. He had wintered in Palatka, Fla.
He was a member of the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene at Warren, United Auto Workers Union at Marion and the company’s Sympathy Club, Marion Moose Lodge 253, and Aircraft Owner’s & Pilots Association.
He was born in Ashland, Ky., June 16, 1935, and was a 1954 graduate of Ashland High School. His marriage at Olive Hill, Ky., on Aug. 10, 1957 was to Delores Ann Wilson, who survives.
Surviving also are a daughter, Mrs. Lynn (Penny) Campbell of Warren; two brothers, Ron Robison of Louisville, Ky., and Dean Robison of Ossian; and five grandchildren. Deceased are his mother, Anna Lee Thompson, and a daughter, Gina Thorkelson.
Services will be at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, in Warren, at 12 noon Friday with Pastor Bill Keen officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery at Bluffton.
Visitation will be at the funeral chapel Friday for two hours prior the service. Memorials to the American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate.

DeWayne C. Johnson, 87
DeWayne C. Johnson, 87, a resident of the Heritage of Huntington, died at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mr. Johnson worked as a pipe fitter at Fisher Body in Marion for 27 years, retiring in January 1980. He was a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge and VFW Post 2689 at Huntington. He was a 1933 graduate of Huntington High School, where he played the trumpet in the high school band and at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. For many years, he and his wife enjoyed the winter months at Silver Springs Camp Resort in Silver Springs, Fla.
He was born in Wren, Ohio, March 22, 1915, a son of Vallie Ray and Olive Clifton Johnson. A first marriage in Indianapolis in 1941 was to Roberta Street, who died in 1942; his second marriage on Jan. 30, 1947 at Marion was to Eileen Fisher, who died April 15, 2001.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Duayna) Kopiel of Rome, N.Y., Mrs. Jim (Carolyn) Sotherden of Oklawaha, Fla., and Mrs. Danny (Patricia) Carpenter of Huntington; two sons, Gary D. and Larry G. Johnson, both of Huntington; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Russell Buzzard officiating. Interment will be in the Gardens of Memory cemetery in Huntington County.
Visitation hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and for one hour Saturday prior to services. Memorials to Bethel United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Caroline Anne Young, 61
Caroline Anne Young, 61, long active in the Huntington and Wells County areas, died at 2:08 p.m. Wednesday, Feb, 5, at her home in Huntington.
Mrs. Young was a member for 34 years of the Huntington City Plan Commission, serving from 1968. She was a past president of the Board of Zoning Appeals and Huntington County Community Development Commission, a 43-year member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and active in a number of other organizations, including the March of Dimes, Women’s Club, Columbian Ladies of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Rosary Sodality, original board member of Huntington Heritage Days, and former owner of Market Street Inc.
She was a 1959 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School and a graduate of Ravenscroft Beauty College in Fort Wayne.
She was born Oct. 24, 1941 at Huntington to Gerald P. and Geraldine Leimgruber Seifert. Her marriage on May 27, 1961 at Huntington was to James W. Young, who survives.
Surviving additionally are two sons, Jeffry W. of Huntington and John W. of Roanoke; two daughters, Cathy A. Young of Grandville, Mich., and Cynthia A. Niswander of Huntington; two sisters, Patricia Thorn of Merrillville and Margaret Moore of Kokomo; and nine grandchildren. A sister Diane, is deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntington with Father Gary Sigler officiating. A Rosary service was held with the family at a prior date.
Visitation hours at Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Theta Tau will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials to Huntington Catholic School, or to St. Mary’s Church, or to Delta Theta Tau.
