Garnet D. Carpenter
(December 28, 1913 - May 9, 2011)

Garnet D. Carpenter, 97, of Anderson, passed away May 9, 2011 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus.

She was born December 28, 1913 in Summitville, the daughter of Claude and Minnie Dean. She moved from Marion to Anderson in 1929. She married Edgar Carpenter in April 1934 and he passed away in 1968. She worked at Delco Remy for 40 years, retiring in 1973 from Plant 10.

Garnet was a member of Bethany Christian Church, Keen-Agers of the church, Order of Eastern Star #154, Killbuck Retirees and Travel Club, Bethany Care Team and UAW Local 662.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Dean; nieces, Tammy (husband, Gerry) Rolph, Cheryl Dean, Linda (husband, Michael) Grubbs and Phyllis (husband, Gene) Ulrich; nephew, Stephen Dean; great nieces, Brook Spicer, Nichole Ulrich and Tiffany Henson; cousins, Paul Shultz and Elsie Vannatta; close friends, Maxine Jones and family, Janet McCullough, Cindy and Paul Dick, Dallas and Luane Canfield; and neighbors, Bill and Thelma Sutton, Jane Fero and Carl Huffman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; brothers, Loren Dean, Ervin Dean and Darrell Dean; and sister, Harriett Anne Tucker.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Lanis Kineman officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Christian Church.

Mary Etta Garcia
May 26, 1938 - June 5, 2004

Mary Etta Garcia, 66, of Anderson, died June 5, 2004, at St. John’s Medical Center.

She was born May 26, 1938, in Anderson where she lived her entire life.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was a member of Cornerstone Chapel Church.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, watching baseball and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Ruperto O. Garcia; a daughter, Yolanda and husband William Stinson of Anderson, a stepson, Ruben and wife Toni Garcia of Anderson; two daughters, Brenda Maul and Beatrice Maul, both of Tennessee; several grandchildren, including Thomas Tremaine, Kelli Stinson, Stephen, Sierra and Clara Tremaine, Serina Thomas, Aaron Garcia and Andy Garcia; several great-grandchildren; brother, Sam and wife Joanne Hines of New Castle; sister, Evelyn Smith of Anderson; brother, Jack and wife Barbara Hines of Lynn; a sister, Mable Wharton of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are special friends, Ellen and Roscoe Kinder.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Hines; and two sisters, Betty Sue Hines and Wilma Hines.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Joe Huff. Burial will take place at East Maplewood cemetery.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

David A. Tunnell

David A. Tunnell, 34, died Aug. 2, 2004, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood. Arrangements are pending at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood.

R. Steven Vorndran
Nov. 10, 1955 - Aug. 1, 2004

R. Steven Vorndran, 48, Anderson, died unexpectedly Aug. 1, 2004, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 10, 1955, in Anderson and was a lifelong resident.

He was a toolmaker at Anderson Tool for 23 years.

He is survived by his father and mother, Robert A. and Phyllis (Gross) Vorndran of Anderson; brothers and sisters, Thomas Vorndran, Kathy and husband, Chris Matheney, and David Vorndran, all of Anderson, and Karen Evans of Alexandria; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Laura Vorndran; and his grandparents, Vertna Baker, and Clement and Uvah Vorndran

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, with the Rev. Edward Dhondt officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the South Chapel.

Thelma Sheffer
Oct. 20, 1909 - Aug. 1, 2004

Thelma “Toots” (Auer) Robbins Sheffer, 94, Anderson, died Aug. 1, 2004, at Keystone Woods.

She was born Oct. 20, 1909. She and her husband Herbert owned and operated the West End Grocery in Winchester. Later in 1955 they opened Robbins Gift Shop in Winchester. She was a member of Business and Professional Women’s Club in Winchester and was a former treasurer of the Merchants Association also in Winchester. She served on several committees at the church.

She was a graduate of Goshen High School.

Survivors include a daughter, Colette (husband, Tom) Rydman of Frankton; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Robbins, in 1962; second husband, Carl “Monty” Sheffer, in 2002; father, Edmund Auer; mother, Carrie (Miller) Auler; son, Larry Joe Robbins; and three brothers, Dale Auer, Glen Auer and Ray Auer.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 313 S. Meridian St., Winchester, with Pastor David C. Hummel officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Park cemetery in Winchester.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.. today at Walker Funeral Home, 248 E. South St., Winchester, and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 313 S. Meridian St., Winchester, IN 47394 and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Fern D. Burton

Fern D. Burton, 91, Anderson, died Aug. 2, 2004, at Community Northview Care Center. Arrangements are pending at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.

Marge R. Humphrey
Jan. 12, 1917 - Aug. 2, 2004

Margie R. Humphrey, 87, Anderson, passed away Aug. 2, 2004, at Rawlins House in Pendleton following a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 12, 1917, in Clinton County, the daughter of Walter and Ruby (Earlywine) Henderson. She attended Bethel United Methodist Church and had been a resident of Longfellow Plaza for the last 15 years.

She is survived by one son, Jim (wife, Joyce) Humphrey of Anderson; one sister, Norma Lay of St. James City, Fla.; two grandchildren, Susan (husband, Larry) Downey of Pendleton, and Dennis (wife, Tracy) Humphrey of Pendleton; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Downey, Austin Downey, Megan Humphrey, Ian Humphrey and Zachary Humphrey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Humphrey, in 1985; a son, John Humphrey; and a grandson, David Humphrey.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Brian Bays officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Bethel United Methodist Church, 4011 W. 200S, Anderson, IN 46011.

Willard E. Hake
Dec. 3, 1906 - July 31, 2004

Former Mount Zion, Ill., resident Willard E. Hake, 97, Anderson, went home to be with his Lord July 31, 2004.

He was born Dec. 3, 1906, in North Prairie, Illi., the son of William and Hannah Hake. He married Margaret Butts on Oct. 12, 1929. Margaret died in 1980.

He was employed by Mueller Company for 32 years and Archer Step Co. until his retirement in 1974. He also worked as caretaker and bookkeeper for Camp Warren on Lake Decatur in the 1960s. He helped build Macon Street Church of God and later Peoples Church of God where he was a member. He was also a member of North Anderson Church of God, Anderson. Willard spent the last 16 years living with his daughter Marilyn and spending time with his beloved family.

Surviving are his daughters, Beverly Waller of Decatur, Ill., and Marilyn (John) Britton of Anderson; grandchildren, Pamela (Richard) Knowles of Mascoutah, Ill., Janice (Rev. Mike) Schwartz of Anderson, and Robin (Kent) Trelz of Decatur, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Richard Ryan and Randall Knowles, Michael, Jonathan and JB Schwartz, Tisha Trelz, Lonnie (Amy) Trelz of Decatur, Ill.; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Rodney Derr; brothers, Milton and Raymond; sister, Hilda; and parents, William and Hannah.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at North Fork cemetery, officiated by grandson the Rev. Mike Schwartz.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home.

While Grandpa will be missed, his presence and prayers will continue in our lives, his tenderness in our hearts, and his love of life in all we do.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to North Anderson Church of God, Madison Park Fund.

David A. Tunnell
Dec. 6, 1969 - Aug. 2, 2004

ELWOOD — David A. Tunnell, 34, Elwood, died Aug. 2, 2004, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital.

He was born Dec. 6, 1969, the son of Ralph E. and Emma (Riddle) Tunnell in Elwood. He was a 1988 graduate of Elwood Community High School where he participated in football, basketball and baseball. He played basketball at Paducah College in Kentucky. He also played semi pro football for the Madison County Chiefs and the Indiana Tornadoes. He was an assistant football coach for the Elwood High School football team and coached the eighth grade boys’ basketball team. He was very active in the Elwood youth football and baseball programs. David was the building commissioner for the city of Elwood.

Survivors include his wife, Amie (Morrow) Tunnell of Elwood, whom he married March 26, 1994; three sons, Jaylen Tunnell, Jackson Tunnell and Jarren Tunnell, all of Elwood; mother, Emma (Riddle) Tunnell of Elwood; in-laws, Dave and Debbie Morrow of Elwood; two sisters, Lisa Pratt of Elwood and Angie Tunnell of Anderson; sister-in-law, Angie Overdorf of Elwood; nephew, Jordan Overdorf; uncle, Charles and Nedra Tunnell; aunt, Marcella Jones; two nieces, Elizabeth Overdorf and Tifaney Tumulty; a nephew, Draven Pratt; a niece, Kira Tunnell; and a nephew, Cedric Tunnell.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph E. Tunnell; grandparents, Frank H. and Edna Tunnell; and an uncle, Bill Tunnell.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dunnichay Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Brookside cemetery, Windfall.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for Amie and David’s children and contributions may be made through the funeral home or the Madison County Federal Credit Union.

Martha J. Price
March 20, 1922 - Aug. 2, 2004

Martha J. “Marty” (Bryant) Price, 82, Anderson, died Aug. 2, 2004, at Community Northview, Anderson, after an extended illness.

She was born March 20, 1922, in Anderson, and lived in this area all of her life. She retired from Nicholson File after 28 years of service.

She served her country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Richard and wife Wanda Logan of Lawrence, Dennis and wife Neena Bryant of Anderson, William and wife Nancy Bryant, and Judy and husband Mark Marshall; great-nieces and great-nephews, Rae Ann and husband David Ashbaugh, Penny Griffith, Norman and wife Vickie Finnety, Joe and wife Belinda Finnety, Mike and wife Ann Finnety, and John and wife Julia Finnety; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Also surviving are special friends, Martha Lee Hollis and Gene Biddle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lennie Price, in 1987; and parents, William and Rebecca (Shannon) Bryant; brothers, Sylvester Bryant, George Bryant and Elmer Bryant; and two sisters, Virginia Lawson and Wilma Logan.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Memorial Park cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are being handled by Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Northview for her expenses.

Fern D. Burton
Feb. 24, 1913 - Aug. 2, 2004

Fern D. (Dial) Burton, 91, Anderson, died Aug. 2, 2004, at Community Northview Care Center after a brief illness.

She retired from Pierce Governor in 1964.

She is survived by her brother, Byron Dial; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Perry L. Burton, died in 1995.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Evans officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Gas City.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
