INDIANAPOLIS — Abigail Helms-Walker, infant daughter of David Walker and Amber Lynn Helms, died Feb. 18, 2005.

Other survivors include her grandparents, Betty and Dave Walker of Anderson.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park East, Indianapolis.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thelma Marvel Franks
April 6, 1924 - March 1, 2005

WAWAKA — Thelma Marvel Franks, 80, former Anderson resident, died March 1, 2005, at Avalon Village in Ligonier, Ind.

She was born in April 6, 1924, in Butler, Ind., the daughter of Wayland and Mae (Bryant) Mutzfeld. She moved from Anderson to Noble County in 1993.

She was a graduate of Ball State Teacher’s College.

On Feb. 13, 1993, she married William “Tom” Franks in Wawaka. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Edward Thomson, who was killed during World War II. She had also been married to Thomas J. Marvel.

She retired as an accounting supervisor from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson.

Thelma was a member of Ligonier Evangelical Church, American Association of Women Accountants, and Business & Professional Women.

In 1991, she received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Anderson YWCA; and, in 1985, the Management Club of Madison County Distinguished Service Award. She had assisted with the Anderson Public Library’s Literacy Program and had been an adviser for Junior Achievement.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Franks of Wawaka; son, Dr. John E. (Jean) Marvel of Fairmount; stepsons, Thomas J. (Sharon) Franks of Wawaka, Frank E. (Jackie) Franks of Hartford City and William “Clee” (Cheryl) Franks of Wawaka; daughters, Mary Marvel (Paul) Nelson of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Ruth (David) McCord of Lewisburg, Pa.; stepdaughter, Karen (Vincent) Scalabrino of Palatine, Ill.; brother, Harley (Alice) Mutzfeld of Needham, Mass.; sister, Jeannette (John) Morgan of Peterborough, Ontario; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Ligonier Evangelical Church, officiated by the Revs. Hubert Harriman, David Kushman and Stephen Cox. Burial will take place at Butler cemetery in Butler, Ind.

Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Clarence E. Tharp
April 6, 1911 - March 1, 2005

RICHMOND — Clarence E. “Red” Tharp, 93, Richmond, died March 1, 2005, at Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mishawaka, after an extended illness.

He was born April 6, 1911, in Alexandria, the son of Clarence I. and Amanda M. (Ruth) Tharp, and was a former resident of Alexandria. He had resided in Richmond from 1944 until moving to Mishawaka in 2003.

He was affiliated with Johns-Manville Corp., formerly of Alexandria, for 46 years. He was plant manager of the Johns-Manville Plant in Richmond for 21 years, retiring in 1976.

He was a life member of the Alexandria Eagles Lodge 1771, Johns-Manville Quarter Century Club, and a former member of the Richmond Elks Lodge and Rotary Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen (David) Kovalcin of Jamesburg, N.J., Cheryl (Pete) Biggs of Richmond and Sandra J. (Robert) Tryner of Granger; first wife, Vida Tharp of Richmond; significant friend, Lenora Whalen of Mishawaka; three stepdaughters, Sue (John) Porterfield of Lyons, Colo., Carol (Jim) Banning and Patricia Sowers, all of Richmond; stepson, Tom (Tye) Hill of Richmond; three sisters, Margaret (Jesse) Embree, Catherine Green and Phyllis (William) Howard, all of Anderson; brother, Robert (Sharp) Tharp of Elwood; six grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife,

Norma Jean (Long) Tharp, in 1994; and a sister, Dorothy Carroll.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Thomas, First United Methodist Church, Alexandria, officiating. Cremation will follow with private interment of cremains in the IOOF cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Neuropathy Association, 60 E. 42nd St., New York, NY 10165 or through the funeral home.

Shane A. Dunsmore
Nov. 10, 1967 - March 1, 2005

MUNCIE — Shane A. Dunsmore, 37, died March 1, 2005, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 10, 1967, in Muncie, the son of Robert and Sharon (Katie) Clarke Dunsmore. He was a graduate of Daleville High School.

He was employed at Tradesman International in Indianapolis. Prior to that he was employed at Muncie Reception and Diagnostic Center and for several years was a bartender at The Town Club.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon “Katie” Dunsmore; his daughter, Brooke Dunsmore, at home; two sons, Joshua Dunsmore of Albany and Justin Dunsmore of Muncie; his brother, Todd (wife, Terri) Dunsmore of Daleville; his sister, Annie (husband, Todd) Young of Anderson; his grandparents, Arthur and Wanda Clarke of Oldsmar, Fla.; three nephews, Zachary and Jacob Dunsmore and Chad Young; two nieces, Ashli and Britney Dunsmore; his special friend, Kimberly Hopkins and her daughter Kassidy Garrett.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dunsmore, in 1998; his brother, Ted F. Dunsmore in 2002; and his grandparents, Marshall and Geneva Dunsmore, and Paul and Juanita Bright.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory Chapel, Muncie, with Pastor Jim Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory cemetery, north of Muncie.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Cancer Services of Delaware County (Little Red Door) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Geraldine Forney

MIDDLETOWN — Geraldine “Gerry” Forney, 64, Middletown, died March 2, 2005, at Community Hospital in Anderson.

Cremation will take place.

William C. Johnson

William C. Johnson, 54, Anderson, died March 2, 2005. Arrangements are pending at L.C. May Funeral Services.

E. Louise Chatterson
Dec. 22, 1920 - March 1, 2005

ALEXANDRIA — E. Louise Chatterson, 84, Alexandria, died March 1, 2005, at Community Hospital Anderson after an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 22, 1920, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of James and Ruth (McCoy) Reeves.

Louise was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria, Daughters of the American Revolution-Anderson Chapter, P. Buckley Moss Society. She was an accomplished seamstress and taught a knitting class. Louise was a talented artist and enjoyed painting ceramics and plates. Louise was a devoted volunteer. She volunteered her time to serve as a Girl Scout leader in Michigan and Indiana and served as a Pink Lady at Community Hospital in Anderson. She was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include her husband, George Chatterson, whom she married Jan. 25, 1940; a son, Michael (wife, Marge) Chatterson of Alexandria; a sister,

Barbara Mahan of Ferndale, Mich.; six grandchildren, Dr. Michael A. Chatterson, Mark Chatterson, Mindy Childers, Melissa Chatterson, Steven Ely and Sharon Carrell; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Ely; and a sister, Elaine Reeves.

Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of St. Mary with the Rev. Paul Cochran as celebrant. Cremation will follow at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria. A Christian Wake service will conclude the visitation.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund in care of the funeral home.

Raymond Krebs
March 2, 1953 - March 1, 2005

Raymond Krebs, 51, Anderson, died March 1, 2005, at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born March 2, 1953, in Anderson and lived in this area all of his life. He retired in 2003 from General Motors after 27 years of service.

He graduated from Madison Heights High School.

He was a member of Southern Heights Christian Church and United Auto Workers Local 663. He enjoyed rebuilding cars and being a handyman. He was a big Pacers fan.

He is survived by his wife, Edna (Jones) Krebs, whom he married Sept. 19, 1975; a son, Jason Krebs of Anderson; a daughter, Heather Krebs of Anderson; mother, Lucy Erickson of Tallahassee, Fla.; stepfather, Carl Erickson of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Kathy and husband Ernie Sharp of Oviedo, Fla.; special friend, Doyle Valentine of Anderson; several nieces and nephews; two great-nieces and two great-nephews; and special dogs, Sophia and Vox.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Krebs.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Southern Heights Christian Church, 5401 S. Madison Ave., Anderson, with the Rev. Steve Lane officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood cemetery, Anderson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Community Hospice Care or Survivors of Homicide.

Myrtle F. Wilson
Sept. 21, 1912 - March 2, 2005

MIDDLETOWN — Myrtle Faye (Sprong) Wilson, 92, Middletown, died March 2, 2005, at the residence of her granddaughter.

She had worked for many years as a home health care provider.

Survivors include her children, Verna (Ray) Peckinpaugh, Shirley Schmidt, Arlene Beightol, Donald Wirtjes, Carl Clabaugh, Rosemary (Hiro) Tanaka and George (Marcy) Wirtjes; a brother, Gerald Sprong; more than 50 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Wilson.

There will be no services or visitation. Burial will follow at a later date in Graceland cemetery in Webster City, Iowa.

Arrangements are being handled by Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. Fifth St.

Norman W. Jackson

INDIANAPOLIS — Former Anderson resident Norman Wayne Jackson, 57, died Feb. 20, 2005, in Indianapolis.

He had recently worked for Home Depot and had been an appliance salesman for many years.

Survivors include a son, Andrew Wayne Jackson; daughter, Kerri Anne (Jackson) Graves; and four grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave. Cremation will follow.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
