BRIAN A. WILKE

Oct. 13, 1945 - Feb. 7, 2001

NAPPANEE — Brian Alexander Wilke, 55, of 858 E. Walnut St., died in his home at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001). He had been ill since 1996.

Mr. Wilke, the son of Alexander S. and Louise (Lowe) Wilke, was born in Michigan City on Oct. 13, 1945, graduated from New Buffalo High School and moved to Nappanee in 1991.

He is survived by his companion, Barb Dawson of Nappanee; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Dawn) Smith and Mrs. Derek (Jennifer) Odiorne, both of Nappanee, and Angela Wilke of New Buffalo, Mich.; two sons, Brian S. of Atlanta and Christopher of Rochester; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Buzz (Esther) Baer of New Carlisle, Mrs. Darryl (Wanda) Gifford of New Buffalo, Mrs. Bob (Nancy) Hughes of Bremen, Mrs. Richard (Janice) Wendorf of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Mrs. Jim (Helen) Miller of Orlando, Fla.; and four brothers, George of Anchorage, Alaska, Lawrence of Alexandria, Va., Keith of Elkhart and Morris of Bremen.

Two brothers, Kent and Ronald, are deceased.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before the service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, all at Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee Chapel. The Rev. Terry Tyler with Nappanee Presbyterian Church will officiate and burial will be at Union Center cemetery.

Mr. Wilke formerly worked for 23 years at CSX Railroad in Midland, Mich., and most recently was employed at Bremtown Kitchens in Bremen.

Memorials may be given to Elkhart Community Hospice Inc.

ZOLA F. COLLINS

March 24, 1921 - Feb. 7, 2001

LAKE PLACID, Fla. — Friends of Zola F. Roach Collins will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Johnson - Danielson Funeral Home in Plymouth, where the service will be at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Larry Houseman with First United Methodist Church will officiate, followed by burial at Oakhill cemetery.

Mrs. Collins, 79, formerly of Elkhart and Plymouth, died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) in her Lake Placid home after an illness.

She was born in Rochester, Ind., on March 24, 1921, the daughter of Leslie "Ray" and Nellie (McHenry) Prill, attended school in Rochester and Logansport and graduated from Fort Wayne South Side High School in 1939.

One Feb. 2, 1942, she married John R. Roach in Logansport and he died in 1958. She then married William H. Collins in Plymouth on Feb. 18, 1966, and he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Karen) Bottorff of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Linda D. Scherer of Goshen; one stepson, Steven L. Collins of Arlington, Va.; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one great - grandson; and a stepgreat - grandson. Four brothers and four sisters are deceased.

Mrs. Collins lived in Plymouth from 1945 to 1966 and then in Elkhart for 28 years before moving to Florida. She worked as a receptionist in the office of Dr. Kubley and Dr. Robertson for seven years and also as a sales clerk at Bosworth's Home Shop. She enjoyed sewing, golf, bowling and needlework and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Plymouth.

Memorials may be given to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 2121 S.E. Lakeview Drive, Sebring, FL 33870.

LELA D. HAAG

March 16, 1933 - Feb. 6, 2001

HOWE — Friends of Lela D. Haag may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Carney - Frost Funeral Home in LaGrange, where the service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Carldean Merrifield will officiate and burial will be at Greenwood cemetery, LaGrange.

Mrs. Haag, 67, of 4385 N. 225 E., died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was born in LaGrange on March 16, 1933, to Douglas and Marie (Hart) Marks and married Delbert L. Haag in Mongo on July 10, 1956. He died in 1996.

She is survived by a son, Gary Marks of White Pigeon; one daughter, Mrs. Mark (Deborah) Paulus of LaGrange; four grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Beach of Delphi, Margrete Wheeler of Centreville, Mich., and Ann David of Sturgis, Mich.; and a brother, Richard Marks of LaGrange.

Mrs. Haag was a retired nurse's aide, working mostly in nursing homes.

Memorials may be given to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana.

DEAN D. MADLEM

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Dean D. Madlem, 74, of 8 Bayview Blvd., died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers after a brief illness.

Mr. Madlem resided at 3601 Bent Oak Trail in Elkhart during the summer.

RAISA P. KOVALEV

Aug. 20, 1937 - Feb. 8, 2001

ELKHART — Raisa P. Kovalev, 63, of 501 W. Indiana Ave., died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 8, 2001) at Hospice House of South Bend.

She was born in the Soviet Union on Aug. 20, 1937, the daughter of Peter and Tonya (Gololobova) Finutin, and married Zakhar Kovalev on March 1, 1959.

Mrs. Kovalev is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Andrey (Valentina) Konstantinidi of Binghamton, N.Y., and Mrs. Corey (Tatyana) Richardson of Elkhart; a son, Michael (Irina) of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Valentina Makarova and Margaret Petrenko, both of Sacramento, Calif.

Friends will be received two hours before the funeral service at Clavic Evangelical Baptist Church in Goshen. The Rev. Pavel Sanzura will officiate and burial will follow at Violett cemetery.

Rieth - Rohrer - Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kovalev was a homemaker and a member of Clavic Evangelical Baptist Church.

NELLIE H. NEICE

Aug. 7, 1902 - Feb. 7, 2001

ELKHART — Friends of Nellie H. Neice may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. David Hudson will officiate and burial will be at Rice cemetery.

Mrs. Neice, 98, of 181 N. Elkhart Ave., died at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) at Eastlake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Cleveland on Aug. 7, 1902, to Henry H. and Rosemond B. (Shick) Kelsey and married Paul B. Neice in Elkhart on June 23, 1923. He died in 1964.

She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy V. Corrighan of Elkhart; two sons, Richard P. (Gloria) and L. David (Rosie), both of Elkhart; 29 grandchildren; 32 great - grandchildren; and two great - great - grandchildren. Four sons, Thad B., Jack H., James F. and Ronald D.; one daughter, Rosemary Stanley; and a sister, Ethel Neice, are deceased.

Mrs. Neice formerly worked for Miles Inc. and in later years worked at JCPenney and Borneman's during the holidays. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Prime Timers.

Memorials may be given to any charity.

JAMES D. SCHROCK

Feb. 6, 2001

MIDDLEBURY — James Dale Schrock, infant son of Verlin and Dora (King) Schrock, 56276 C.R. 33, died at 11:26 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) at Indiana University Medical Center about an hour after his birth.

James is survived by his parents; a sister, Wilma; and three brothers, Galen, Karl and Matthew, all at home; grandparents, Alvin and Ruby Schrock and Wilma King, all of Middlebury; and great - grandparents, Henry and Susan Yoder of Topeka, Anna Schrock of Middlebury and Ben King of White Horse, Pa. A sister, Wanda Sue, died in 1993.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Perry Miller, 11090 W. 100 S., with Bishop David Miller Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Bontrager cemetery.

Miller - Stewart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM J. MILLER

Nov. 29, 1915 - Feb. 6, 2001

GOSHEN — William J. Miller, 85, of 65648 S.R. 15, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2001) in his home.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1915, in Dodge City, Kan., to Joe B. and Lydia (Troyer) Miller, came to Goshen in 1935 and married Lydia M. Troyer on Jan. 30, 1938.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Frye and Mrs. Robert (Pam) Rossi, both of Goshen, and Myrna Kauffman of Holly Springs, Md.; two sons, DeVon of Cromwell and Ronald of Willow Park, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren; three sisters, Sue Yoder of Topeka, Mary Miller of Las Vegas and Katie Bontrager of Shipshewana; and four brothers, Ben and Noah, both of Goshen, Crist and Joe B. Jr., both of Shipshewana.

Two infant sisters, Edna and Polly; and two brothers, Roman and David J.B., are deceased.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Yoder - Culp Funeral Home, where the service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Russell Krabill and the Rev. John Schrock will officiate, followed by burial at Violett cemetery.

Mr. Miller worked for 35 years at Starcraft and Star Tank & Boat for 35 years and part time for the last 25 years as a tool and die consultant for Smoker Craft in New Paris.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Walnut Hill Day Care Center.

ROBERT L. DAVIS

Jan. 22, 1945 - Feb. 7, 2001

EDWARDSBURG — Robert L. Davis, 56, of 68882 Brady Road, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 7, 2001) in his home after an extended illness with cancer.

Mr. Davis was born in Jersey City, N.J., to John and Jeanette (Leonard) Davis on Jan. 22, 1945, and married Vicky A. Weaver in Elkhart on Feb. 27, 1965.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Dana L. Stachel of Elkhart; three sons, Robert J. of Claremont, Calif., David A. and Joshua L., both of Edwardsburg; two granddaughters; seven brothers, Wallace Holup of Pennsylvania, John (Judy), Dennis (Rose), Richard and Ted (Terry) Davis, all of New Jersey, Steven (Debra) Davis of Florida and Scott Davis of North Carolina; and six sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Linda) Frances of North Carolina, Mrs. Xavier (Jeanette) Maxwell, Mrs. Andy (Janet) Sydlar and Mrs. Wayne (Donna) Hibner, all of Florida, and Arlene Turner and Mrs. Charles (Lorraine) Hussey, both of New Jersey.

A daughter, Donna Jo Davis, died on July 7, 1974.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service at 11 a.m. Saturday, all at Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home & Crematory in Elkhart. Burial will be at Rice cemetery.

Mr. Davis worked for 27 years at Conrail. He was a longtime musician, most recently playing with the Spectrum Band of the Osceola American Legion.

Memorials may be given to Elkhart Community Hospice Inc.

CLARENCE COPELAND SR.

ELKHART — Clarence Copeland Sr., 63, of 1536 S. Main St., was found dead in his home at 2 p.m. Monday (Feb. 5, 2001).

Arrangements are pending at Powell - Coleman Funeral Home in Gary.

HILDEGARDE C. SMITH

March 27, 1936 - Feb. 6, 2001

CASSOPOLIS — Friends of Hildegarde C. Smith may call for two hours before the service at 2 p.m. Friday at Connelly Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald G. Potts with St. Ann Catholic Church will officiate and burial will be at Prospect Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Smith, 64, of 3211/2 N. O'Keefe St., died in her home after a sudden illness on Tuesday (Jan. 6, 2001).

She was born in South Bend on March 27, 1936, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Nogal) Hafner, and married Gerald W. Smith on June 24, 1962.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Mark of Hamburg, Mich.; one daughter, Cheryl Ann of Cassopolis; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Harmacinski of South Bend and Joan Green of Indianapolis; and a brother, Joseph Hafner of Wyoming, Mich.

Mrs. Smith came to Cassopolis 28 years ago from South Bend. She was an agent for the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund of Cass County.

WILLIAM O. LONGACRE SR.

Aug. 23, 1930 - Feb. 4, 2001

CLIMAX, Mich. — The memorial service for William O'Dell "Jim" Longacre Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. The Rev. Steve Lewis with Cornerstone Baptist Church in Shipshewana will officiate.

Mr. Longacre, 70, of 7250 S. 40th St., died Sunday (Feb. 4, 2001) at Ann Arbor Veterans Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born to Willie O. and Florence B. (Maybee) Longacre on Aug. 23, 1930, in Three Rivers and served in the U.S. Navy. He formerly owned and operated Longacre Tree Service in Kalamazoo.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Jamie) Sokolowski of Battle Creek; two sons, William O. Jr. of Bangor and Clayton E. of Seattle; five grandchildren; two brothers, David Hendricks of Centreville and Jack Longacre of Arcadia, Mo.; and a sister, Edith Hooker of White Pigeon. Two brothers, John and Jerry, are deceased.
