Lois Simmons

HOBE SOUND, Fla. -- Lois Douglas Simmons, 72, 7462 Jamestown Terrace, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Fla. Born Nov. 12, 1927 in Howard County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Lola (Beard) Johnson. She moved to the West Palm Beach area of Florida in 1979. On Feb. 3, 1982, she married Robert Simmons, who survives.

She graduated from New London High School. She was involved with the family restaurant business in Kokomo in the 1950's and '60's, and owned and operated the BG Deli. She was a business representative for the Boyd Airline School in Florida. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jupiter, Fla. She was a devoted and loving mother and enjoyed her family, all of whom will miss her very much.

Surviving in addition to her husband are, two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Tom Vega and Teresa and John Streza, all of Kokomo; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Doug Gillam, Chicago, Kirk and Julie Gillam, Pauley Island, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Shelby, Sean, and Shannon Vega, Nicole Streza, Derek, Carly and Abby Gillam; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Viola Hendrix, Kokomo, Arlene and Dale Storms, Joplin, Mo., Meriam and Neil Bolinger, Frankfort; 10 nieces and nephews including a special niece, Treva Smith of Kokomo.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road. Pastor Jim Bradley will officiate. Burial will be in South Union cemetery in western Howard County. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 1150 S. Dixon Road, Kokomo, 46902.

Michael Steelman

Michael D. Steelman, 54, 200 E. Taylor St. Apt. 7R, died 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Howard Community Hospital. He was born Jan. 16, 1946, in Rolla, Mo., the son of William E. Steelman and Violet A. (Windle) Ronk.

He was a gourmet cook.

Surviving are a daughter, Michelle Steelman, Kokomo; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Erran Steelman II, Sharpsville, and Nicholas M. Steelman, Iowa; four grandchildren, Audrey, Jade, Jerrod and Kadilynn; a half sister, Janet Anthony, Tenn.; two half brothers, Richard J. Ronk and James L. Ronk, both of Russiaville; and his mother, Violet A. (Windle) Ronk, Russiaville. Preceding him in death was his step-father, Richard N. Ronk.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Crown Point cemetery. Bill Meiring will officiate. Burial will follow in Crown Point cemetery. No calling is planned. Ellers Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

James Dripps

James V. Dripps, 69, 2823 S. Park Road, died 8:50 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in St. Vincent's Hospice Center, Indianapolis. He was born March 3, 1931, in Wall, Pa., the son of Joseph Harvey Dripps and Lillian (Harvey) Dripps. He was the husband to Doris (Meadows) Dripps, who survives. They were married Dec. 22, 1951, in Oakridge, Tenn.

He was a mechanical engineer for Haynes International in Kokomo.

He was a veteran of the Navy. He was a past member of the Kokomo Elks, and belonged to the Quarter Century Club at Haynes International. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and in recent years attended New Covenant Christian Church. He enjoyed working on his annual Christmas Village and also working on ship and car models. He loved taking walks, spending time with his grandchildren at the park. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

Surviving are his wife of Kokomo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Lynda Dripps, Westfield, and Tim and Mary Dripps, Wapakoneta, Ohio; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vicki and Timothy Moore, Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Susan Dripps, Russiaville; three brothers, Kenneth Dripps, Quimby, S.C., Charles W. Dripps, Clearwater, Fla., and Joseph W. Dripps, Princeton, Ky.; two sisters, Wanda Myers, Largo, Fla., Mabel Robinson, Knoxville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Shannon Schumacher, Eric P. Moore and Tricia Moore all of Colorado, Josh and Matt Dripps, Westfield, Mike Obermeyer, Russiaville, Zachary, Candace and Daniel Dripps, Ohio; one great-grandchild, Michaela Schumacher; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Dripps.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road. Dr. Timothy Bagwell will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Garden cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made tot he St. Vincent's Hospice Center or the Indiana Alzheimer's Association.

Theresa Rickey

Theresa I. Rickey, 82, 6652 E. County Road 400 South, died 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Skowhegan, Maine, the daughter of Edward H. and Phoebe (Miller) Vigue.

She worked for Norwark Shoes in Skowhegan and also for A&P; Stores in the late 1950s. She also raised horses until she retired in the fall of 1977. She was an avid horse lover and avid rider. She attended Art School in Kokomo and St. Joan of Arch Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading historical books and natural health books.

Surviving are two sons, William "Bill" G. Rickey and John E. Rickey, both of Kokomo; one daughter, Jane Ann Rickey, Kokomo; three grandsons, William J. Foster, Kokomo, Randy E. Foster, Torrington, Conn.. and John E. Rickey Jr., Kokomo; two granddaughters, Kimberly D. Rickey, Galveston and Wendy J. Foster, Kokomo; two sisters, Edna Gerry, North Fort Myers, Fla., and Ruth Parker, Skowhegan, Maine; and one brother, Kenneth R. Vigue, Skowhegan, Maine.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Eugene and Lynwood Vigue; and one sister, Ora Boulette.

Memorial contributions in form of Masses for "Sisters of Poor Clairs" or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church to be said. She will be cremated. Boyer Funeral Home, Sharpsville, is in charge of the services.

Claude Fisher

Claude Hamilton Fisher, 102, Windsor Estates, Kokomo, a former Logansport resident, died at 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at the facility. He was born July 30, 1898, in Mattoon, Ill., the son of Hamilton and Emma (Coon) Fisher. He was married in St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 14, 1923, to Pauline Hayes, who preceded him in death Oct. 4, 1997.

Claude and Pauline were co-owners and operators of the W. E. Hayes Feed and Hardware Store at 605 N. Washington St., in Kokomo from 1933 until 1947. He then became a commercial sign designer at Kolux Corp., retiring in 1968 at the age of 70.

Until his death, he was the oldest living member of the First Congressional Christian Church, where he had served as treasurer of the church during the depression. He was also actively involved with the youth activities of the church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 66 in Lansing, Mich., and he served in the Army during World War I. He was a creative and artistic man and actually built his own automobile at the age of 14. He has a keen mind and entertained visitors with tales of the past until a few weeks before his death. He loved relating history and was featured in the Kokomo Tribune in December of 1998 with a full-page article.

Surviving are one daughter, Marjorie L. Longshore, Kokomo; two stepsons and their wives, Leroy P. and Lenora Rehwald of Moon Township, Pa., and Milton and Mary Ann Rehwald of South Carolina; and one grandson, Chip Longshore, Kokomo. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Carl D. Longshore Jr. and seven brothers and sisters.

A graveside service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park cemetery. A Masonic service followed by a memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road., with Howard Lodge F&AM; 93 and Pastor Scott Keehn officiating. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church, 505 W. Mulberry St., Kokomo.

Leslie Cunningham

Leslie E. Cunningham, 52, 109 North St., Galveston, died 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his residence.

Arrangements are pending at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo.

Mildred Watkins

TIPTON -- Mildred Marie (McNair) Watkins, 68, 313 Canterbury Court, died 7:50 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

She was born Sept. 16, 1932, the daughter of Hommer and Jessamine (Shelton) McNair. She was the wife to Truman Arie Watkins, who preceded her in death March 12, 1999. They were married Aug. 22, 1950, in Marianna, Ark.

She was a housewife and mother. She attended the Church of Christ in Kokomo and Tipton and belonged to the Golden Agers. She enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her family.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James G. and Ruby Watkins, Enoree, S.C., and Guy Steven and Denise Watkins, Defance, Ohio; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Mark Cooper, Memphis, Ind., Susan and Barry Polzin and Gloria Lindsey, all of Peshigo, Wis.; four brothers, James Lee McNair, VanCleve, Miss., Herbert Henry McNair, Zaldo Springs, Fla., Howard Lewis McNair, Arvada, Colo., Charles Cecil McNair, Benton, Ark., and Roger Hayes McNair, Arvada, Colo.; three sisters, Betty Lou Fear, Kansas, Sarah Ann DeSautel, Texas, and Patsy Marvella Edgin, Marianna, Ark.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eula Mae and Sam Matthew, Palestine, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Watkins, Kokomo, and Naomi Watkins, Marianna, Ark.; grandchildren, Randall Paul and Jason Kiel Buford, Memphis, Ind., Truman Scott and Teresa Watkins, Slidel, La., Steven Wesly and wife Shannon Watkins, Fostoria, Ohio, Marcy Lee Watkins and fiancé Derek Mouser, Sharpsville, Theresa Marie, Shawn W. and Brandon Lindsey, all of Polzin, Wis., Melissa Sneed, Enoree, S.C., Bryan Johnson, Kentucky, and Chad and Chrissi Cooper, Bloomington; six step grandchildren; a great-grandchild, Shae Wesly Watkins; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister, one grandchild, one step great-great-grandson, one great-granddaughter, three brothers, one sister, her husband and her parents.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road. The Rev. Lynn Brust will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty cemetery in Tipton County. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made American Diabetes Association.

Clarence Davis

Clarence L. Davis, 81, 3500 S. Lafountain St., died 4:42 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Howard Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending at Sunset Memory Gardens Funeral Home.

Betty Stephens

MARION -- Betty Jean Stephens, 77, Marion, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in Port Charlotte, Fla. She was born Oct. 18, 1922, in Detroit, and lived in Port Charlotte since 1990.

Memorial services are 2:30 p.m. Oct. 14, at the First United Methodist Church, 624 S. Adams St., Marion. There will be no visitation. Memorial may be made to the Dr. Phi and Betty Stephens Christian Scholarship Fund, 1000 W. 42nd St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46218.

White, Jack, services are 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home.

Simmons, Lois, services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fenn & Shirley Mortuary, Colonial Chapel.

Theresa Rickey

Foster, Kokomo; three great-grandchildren, Ashley N. and Joshua A. Evans and Sara Rose Foster; two sisters and a brother, Edna Gerry, North Fort Myers, Fla.; Ruth Parker and Kenneth R. Vigue, Skowhegan, Maine. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Lynwood Vigue, and a sister, Ora Boulette.

There are no planned services or calling. The body was cremated. Boyer Funeral Home, 204 N. Church St., Sharpsville, is in charge of the services. Memorial contributions may be made in the form of Masses for "Sisters of Poor Clairs" or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church to be said.
