SOUTH BEND - Willie J. Smith Sr., 73, of Fremont Street, died Monday in Vincor Hospital, Greenfield, Wis., of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Willie J. Jr. of Michigan City and Jimmie of South Bend; and a sister, Ida Bell Johnson of Indianapolis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Pilgrim Mission Baptist Church. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Clark - O'Neal Funeral Home.

Jody L. Stout

Sept. 7, 1977 - April 1, 1999

BERRIEN CENTER - Jody Leigh Stout, 21, of 9416 Painter School Road, died April 1 in Che - Chen Pingtung, Taiwan, of injuries from a bus accident. Survivors include her parents, Donna J. and Kenneth Stout of Berrien Center; and a brother, Todd of Berrien Center. Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Pioneer Memorial Church, Andrews University, Berrien Springs. There will be no visitation. Allred Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mary Vida

June 25, 1939 - April 5, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Mary (Kalber) Vida, 59, of Cottage Grove, died Monday in her home of an apparent heart attack. Survivors include four daughters, Tina Kalber and Barbara Vida, both of South Bend, Theresa Rowe of New Carlisle and Dorothy Vida of Texas; a son, Michael of Hudson Lake; three sisters, Barbara Wetter, Helen Martinez and Nancy Collins, all of South Bend; and four brothers, James Kalber of Mishawaka, Daniel Kalber of Waldorf, Md., David Kalber of Terre Haute, Ind., and George Kalber of Bedford, Ind. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

John F. Ziola Sr.

Aug. 28, 1914 - April 6, 1999

KOONTZ LAKE - John F. Ziola Sr., 84, of Chicago, formerly of Koontz Lake, died Tuesday in Christ Hospital, Oaklawn, Ill. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Slazas of Palos Hills, Ill., and Jean Lopez of Ohio; and two sons, John of Palos Hills and James of Rolling Prairie. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Church, Palos Hills. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Schmaedeke Funeral Home, Worth, Ill., where a chapel prayer will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Fairy Albert

Aug. 6, 1903 - March 26, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Fairy (Forrester) Albert, 95, of Port Richey, Fla., formerly of South Bend, died Friday in Port Richey, of natural causes. Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie (Forrester) Dunfee of Port Richey. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Chapel at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park cemetery, Granger. Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Everett E. Aldridge

July 30, 1933 - March 30, 1999

NEW CARLISLE - Everett E. "Bob' Aldridge, 65, of U.S. 20, died Tuesday when an aging corn crib collapsed him on Gordon Road, per Coroner Chuck Hurley. Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Aldridge of Lafayette, Ind.; three sons, Robert of South Bend, Keith of Las Vegas and Raymon of New Carlisle; a sister, Joan Potter of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a brother, Elvin of South Bend. Services will be at 5 p.m. (EST) Saturday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., where friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. (EST) Saturday.

Betty J. Arthur

July 17, 1922 - March 30, 1999

SYRACUSE - Betty Jane Arthur, 76, of 508 E. Northshore Drive, died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday in Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Eads of St. Louis and Ann Sawyer of Milford. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Eastlund Funeral Home - Harris Chapel, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Larry C. Barrett

Oct. 7, 1933 - March 30, 1999

ELKHART - Larry C. "Mr. B." Barrett, 65, of 1208 Eden St., died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday in Elkhart General Hospital after an illness. Survivors include five daughters, Patricia Barrett - Collins of Hilton Head, S.C., Gayle Gonzales of Stafford, Va., Toni Walker of Bristol, and Cynthia Dempster and Kimberly Garland, both of Elkhart; a son, Michael of Hilton Head; and a brother, Timothy of Tampa, Fla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Elkhart Chapel of Stemm - Lawson - Peterson Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Louis J. Bernero

June 13, 1920 - March 30, 1999

PLYMOUTH - Louis J. Bernero, 78, of 14365 Lawrence Lake Drive, died Tuesday in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Mildred I.; two daughters, Mary Chamberlin - Buckingham of Charleston, S.C, and Susan Kubley of Plymouth; a son, John of Plymouth; and a sister, Marie Alvis of Indianapolis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Johnson - Danielson Funeral Home.

Iris E. Bontrager

Aug. 17, 1913 - March 30, 1999

TOPEKA - Iris E. Bontrager, 85, of 5940 W. County Road 185 South, died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday in Life Care Center, LaGrange. Survivors include a son, Neal of Topeka. Services will be at 6:30 p.m. today in Miller Funeral Home, Middlebury, where friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. today. Additional services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Howard - Miami Church, Kokomo, where friends may call two hours before services.

Rosemary B. Burns

July 18, 1921 - March 30, 1999

CASSOPOLIS - Rosemary B. Burns, 77, of 19650 Mason St., died Tuesday in Elkhart General Hospital after an illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Connelly Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Robert Compton Jr.

Jan. 4, 1992 - March 30, 1999

KOONTZ LAKE - Robert "Robbie" Compton Jr., 7, of 7733 N. Meadow Lane, died Tuesday at the intersection of Iriguois Street West and Indiana 23, as the result of an automobile accident. Survivors include his mother, Liz Compton of Tyner; his father, Robert Compton Sr. of Koontz Lake; two sisters, Bobbie DeFranco of Culver and Nikki DeFranco of Grovertown; and a brother, Michael DeFranco III of Grovertown. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, where friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and two hours before services Saturday.

Evadean M. Deardorff

Jan. 2, 1909 - March 30, 1999

ROCHESTER - Evadean M. Deardorff, 90, of 1213 Lakeshore Drive, died at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday in her home. Survivors include a sister, Margaret E. Newman of Rochester; and a brother, Otis Halterman of Rochester. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Norman R. DeVoe

Aug. 3, 1961 - March 30, 1999

WAKARUSA - Norman Ray DeVoe, 37, of New Road, died Tuesday of injuries from an auto accident at the intersectoin of Indiana 331 and Pierce Road near Wyatt. Survivors include his wife, LuAnn; two daughters, Katie A. and Magdolene "Maggie" M. DeVoe, both at home; his parents, Trevia and James DeVoe of Albany, Ind.; two sisters, Normal Clevenger and Ruby Morris, both of Albany; and a brother, Phillip of Albany. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa Chapel, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour before services.

Mary L. Doyle

Nov. 7, 1902 - March 30, 1999

GRANGER - Mary Lucinda (Chapleau) Doyle, 96, of Fall Creek Drive, died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Bark of Granger; two sons, James J. of Joliet, Ill., and Thomas J. of Brea, Calif.; three sisters, Rita Chapleau, Gertrude Chapleau and Lillian Chapleau, all of South Bend; and a brother, Richard J. Chapleau of South Bend. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick's Church. There will be no visitation. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Charles D. Ervin

April 21, 1915 - March 29, 1999

MILFORD - Charles D. Ervin, 83, of 505 West Fourth St., died at 4:10 p.m. Monday in Lakeland Rehabilitation Center. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Lakeview cemetery, Silver Lake. Eastlund Funeral Homes - Mishler Chapel is handling arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Robert W. French

May 8, 1911 - March 26, 1999

BUCHANAN - Robert W. French, 87, of 122 S. Detroit St., died Friday in Lakeland Medical Center - Berrien Center, of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Nadene (Townsend); and two daughters, Nancy McWhorter of Atlanta and Judith (French) Tronsrue of Seattle. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, in First United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday April 8, in Swem Funeral Home.
