ROLLING PRAIRIE - Louella Salisbury, 68, of Silver Springs, Fla., formerly of Rolling Prairie, died at 2:30 Thursday in Sylvias Home, Ocala, Fla. Survivors include her husband, Sylvester; two daughters, Kathy Poynter and Deborah King, both of South Bend; a son, David of LaPorte; her mother Edna Tarnow of Ocala; two sisters, Nancy Trafelet of LaPorte and Barbara Zeedyk of South Bend; and four brothers, Herbert and Ward Tarnow, both of LaPorte, Gerald Tarnow of Ocala and Harold Tarnow of Rolling Prairie. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Haverstock Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and until services Wednesday.

Richard L. Sechowski
March 24, 1907 - Jan. 7, 1998

ELKHART - Richard L. Sechowski, 90, of East Bristol Street, died Wednesday in East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He is survived by his son, Richard M. of Elkhart; four sisters, Esther Mumaw, Evelyn Deka, Virginia Tomaszewski and Alice Cukrowicz, all of Mishawaka; and four brothers, Jerome Sechowski, Benny Szczechowski and Clarence Szczechowski, all of South Bend and Daniel Szczechowski of Mishawaka. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, where friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today and a rosary will be said at 3 p.m.

Walter D. Smith
Sept. 11, 1953 - Jan. 8, 1998

ELKHART - Walter D. Smith, 44, of 1001 W. Hively Ave., died at 7:32 p.m. Thursday in Rosewood Terrace after an illness. Survivors include his wife, Sheila D. of Phoenix; a daughter, Stacy D. Smith of Topeka, Kan.; and three sons, Walter D. Jr. and Steven D., both of Phoenix, and Warren D. of Jackson, Miss.; his father, John I. of Chandler, Ariz. There is no visitation.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Billings Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Scottie L. Sorrell
Feb. 16, 1972 - Jan. 7, 1998

ELKHART - Scottie Lamar Sorrell, 25, of 903 W. Franklin St., died Wednesday in St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City, after an illness. He is survived by a daughter, Jessica J. Cantrell of Elkhart; his mother, Cheryl Sorrell of Elkhart; his father, Alvin Sorrell Sr. of Elkhart; two sisters, Judith Sorrell and Shirley Sorrell, both of Elkhart; and four brothers, James Hillsman, Alvin Sorrell Jr., Ollie Sorrell and Michael Sorrell, all of Elkhart. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Abundant Life Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Christ, where friends may call one hour before services. Alford's Mortuary, South Bend, is handling arrangements.

Sister Patricia Marie Cooney
July 22, 1904 - Jan. 10, 1998

SOUTH BEND - Sister Patricia Marie, CSC, (Josephine Cooney), 93, of Saint Mary's Convent, died Saturday in the convent. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday, and a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Sereata L. Cripe
May 11, 1909 - Jan. 9, 1998

MISHAWAKA - Sereata L. Cripe, 88, of 107 B Remington Court, died Friday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. She is survived by two daughters, Avis Bechtold of Sarasota, Fla. and Nancy Doczy - Singleton of Niles; a son, Robert J. of South Bend; and a sister, Dorothy Hostetler of Goshen. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in West Goshen Church of the Brethren, Goshen. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Yoder - Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

Joseph A. Waszak
July 9, 1916 - Jan. 9, 1998

SOUTH BEND - Joseph Anthony Waszak, 81, of Waterview Court, died Friday in Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Irma Helen (Michaels); and three sons, John J. of Fort Wayne, David A. of South Bend and James T. of Seattle. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road. Services will be at 9:30 a.m.Tuesday in Little Flower Catholic Church.

Frederick W. Arndt
June 30, 1921 - Jan. 11, 1998

MICHIGAN CITY - - Frederick W. Arndt, 76, of Red Oaks Healthcare Center, died Sunday at the center. He is survived by two daughters, Judith Nell of LaPorte and Connie Van Scoik of Michigan City; a son, Terry of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; two sisters, Mae Regnier and Betty Bridges, both of LaPorte; and two brothers, Jack and Walter Jr., both of LaPorte. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Harold Baker
March 26, 1926 - Jan. 10, 1998

SHIPSHEWANA - - Harold Baker, 71, of 6250 County Road 700 North, died at 11:59 p.m. Saturday in Vencor Hospital, LaGrange. Survivors include his wife, Dawn (Siebert); two daughters, Valarie Yoder of Middlebury and Lois Shupp of Elkhart; two sons, Mike of Fountain City, Ind., and Chris of Constantine; a sister, Carolyn Miller of Millersburg; and a brother, Oscar of Long Island, Ohio. There will be no visitation or services. Shoup - Carney - Frost Funeral Home, Howe, handled arrangements.

Dean F. Davis
Sept. 19, 1915 - Jan. 10, 1998

ELKHART - - Dean F. Davis, 82, of 2030 Prairie Street, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday in Elkhart General Hospital. Survivors include a sister, May M. Morton of Elkhart. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Billings Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Michael L. Hardin

LAPORTE - - Michael L. Hardin, 49, of 107 Truesdell St., died at 10:03 a.m. Saturday in LaPorte Hospital. He is survived by two brothers, Charles Hardin Jr. and Morris Black, both of LaPorte. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Haverstock Funeral Home, where friends may call an hour before services.

ROCHESTER - - George S. Jones, 85, of 201 W. Ninth St., died Saturday in Woodlawn Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Hazel C. (Putnam); a daughter, Janet Meyer of Roseburg, Ore.; and four sons, Harry O. of West Lafayette, Ind., John A. of Rochester, Dewey G. of Marquette, Mich., and Richard P. of Atlanta. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Zimmerman Family Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and two hours before services Wednesday.

ELKHART - - Gretna Karnes, 76, of Grandview, Mo., formerly of Elkhart, died Saturday in Grandview Terrace. Survivors include a daughter, Connie Erb of Belton, Mo., a sister, Garland Lyon of Bristol; and two brothers, Lovell Chastin of Elkhart and Raymond Chastin of Mitchell, Ind. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour before services.

June 14, 1909 - Jan. 10, 1998

BREMEN - - Lester Chester Kuhn, 88, of 18698 Shively Road, died at 2:42 p.m. Saturday in Community Hospital of Bremen. Survivors include his wife, Nellie E. (Young); three sons, Glenn and Richard, both of Bremen, and John D. of Lakeville; and a sister, Vera Hiatt of Bremen. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Mishler Funeral Home, and one hour before services Wednesday in the church.

Ralph D. Layman

BOURBON - - Ralph D. Layman, 95, of Mayflower Care Center, Plymouth, formerly of Bourbon, died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday in the center. He is survived by a daughter, Marlene Leffert of Plymouth; two sons, Jack of Plymouth, and Larry of Bourbon; and a sister, Hazel Pickens of Logansport, Ind. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Deaton Funeral Home, where friends may call two hours before services.

William R. McDonald
Feb. 18, 1924 - Jan. 11, 1998

MICHIGAN CITY - - William R. "Mac" McDonald, 73, of Columbia Street, died at 12:18 a.m. Sunday in Michigan City Healthcare Center. Survivors include his wife, Julia (Steinhagen); a daughter, Gwen Wingard of Michigan City; three sons, Ronald of Monette, Ark., and William and Steven, both of Michigan City. There will be no services or visitation. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.

BERRIEN SPRINGS - - Betty Marie Michienzi, 75, of 315 S. Cass St., died Saturday in her home. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Sr.; two daughters, Sharlene Hartline of Barefoot Bay, Fla., and Paulette Alten of Berrien Springs; two sons, Roger Lee Alten of Florida and Thomas Michienzi Jr. of Berrien Springs; two sisters, Virginia Chapman of Arlington, Texas, and Imogene Gaza of Stevensville; and a brother, Jack Thomas of Lehigh Acres, Fla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Allred Funeral Home, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette (Juniper); five daughters, Carol Rounds of North Liberty, Jennifer Clark of LaPorte and Alesa Wireman, Gina Hersh and Melina Sallee, all of Knox; two sons, Albert of Walkerton and Hubert D. Jr. of Plymouth; two sisters, Mazel Campbell of North Judson and Reva Bailey of Kingsford Heights; and six brothers, Benny Fugate and Roger Bottorff, both of Knox, Delmer Fugate of Covington, Ky., Hobart Miller of California, Joe Miller of Jackson, Ky., and Roy Bottorff of Michigan City. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Braman and Son Memorial Chapel.

KNOX - - Elsie M. Pendergast, 90, of 1515 S. Heaton St., died Saturday in Wintersong Village Nursing Home. She is survived by a sister, Anna Roach of Knox; and a brother, Lawrence Jensen of Fairbury, Ill. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in M.C. Smith Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

ELKHART - - David E. Rowe, 56, of County Road 2, died at 4:07 a.m. Saturday in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Debra A. (Woodhurst); three daughters, Brenda K. Rowe of South Bend, Laura A. Kramer of Middlebury and Kimberly S. Buckley of Elkhart; two sons, Thomas D. of Los Angeles and James D. of Elkhart; two sisters, Elsie Herbster of Warsaw and Ruth Schafer of Elkhart; and two brothers, Carl of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and Wayne of Plymouth. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, North Liberty. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, and one hour before services Wednesday in the church.
