A memorial services for Laurence P. "Larry" Wittlig, 92, of Clarksville, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Morton Memorial United Methodist Church, with a second service Tuesday, Nov. 19, 7 p.m. at Westminster Village, Clarksville. He died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his residence of 24 years, Westminster Village in Clarksville.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a graduate of Mariette College and retired from Ashland Oil. He was a member of Morton Memorial United Methodist Church, Clarksville.
Stella Wyatt
age 86; homemaker
Funeral services for Stella Nethery Jewell Wyatt, 86, of Charlestown, were held at noon to day, Monday, Oct. 28, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens, Mt. Washington, Ky. She died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Kings Daughters Hospital, Madison.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Tiny Jewell, Bloomfield, Ky., and Scotty and Rudolph Jewell, Taylorsville; two daughters, Elizabeth Gulley, Lexington and Lucille Fell, Bardstown, Ky.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Wittlig.
William E. Denton Jr.
age 53; of Charlestown
Funeral services for William E. Denton Jr., 53, of Charlestown, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Scott Funeral Home, Main Street Chapel, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at his home.
He was a native of Jeffersonville and was employed by B.F. Goodrich/L.C. Nadorff & Son. He was a member of American Legion, Charlestown Post.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Denton; two sons, Aaron W. and Travis E. Denton, Charlestown; daughter-in-law, Carrie M. Denton, Charlestown; his mother, Betty Denton, Jeffersonville and a grandson, Jordan Denton, Charlestown.
He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Denton Sr.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
Stacey Luana Marie Horton
age 22; formerly of Jeffersonville
Stacey Luana Marie Horton, 22, Honolulu, Hawaii, formerly of Jeffersonville, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 in Hawaii after an illness.
Among the local survivors include a grandfather, George Horton Sr., Jeffersonville.
Jo Ann Townsend
age 44; of New Albany
Jo Ann Townsend, 44, of New Albany, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Hospice of Louisville.
She was a native of Chicago, Ill.
Survivors include a mother and stepfather, Barbara and Kenneth Townsend, Sellersburg; a daughter, Arsheena Townsend, New Albany; three brothers, Daniel Townsend, Sellersburg, Tim Townsend, Ft. Knox, Ky., and Jim Townsend, Jeffersonville; three sisters, Sherri Taylor, Ft. Mead, Maryland, Debra Oehmann, Jeffersonville and Brenda Maddox, Louisville.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leetyja Townsend in 1991.
The body has been cremated with burial in Lexington, Ky.
No funeral service will be held.
Lawrence Matthew Byrnes
age 86; World War II veteran
Lawrence Matthew "Jack" Byrnes, 86, of Jeffersonville, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was a World War II Army veteran, retired maintenance man from Roadway Inn, Louisville and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Jeffersonville.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes Byrnes; seven sons, Larry Byrnes, Radcliff, Ky., Donnie Byrnes, Sarasota, Fla., Thomas Byrnes, Bloomfield, Ky., John Byrnes, Nashville, Tenn., Fred Byrnes, Louisville, Marty Byrnes, Rineyville, Ky., and Paul Byrnes, Charlestown; seven daughters, Rose Marie Byrnes, Hattiesburg, Miss., Peggy Bratcher, Jeffersonville, Jan Chesser, Greenville, Jean Murley, Charlestown, Sally Burns, Jeffersonville, Laura Byrnes, Redwood, Wash., and Julie Byrnes, Jeffersonville; 28 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. The body will be cremated.
Scott Funeral Home, North Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Donald P. Bagshaw
age 62; Army veteran
Funeral services for Donald P. Bagshaw, 62, of Louisville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Resthaven Memorial Chapel, Louisville. He died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
Visitation at Schoppenhorst & Underwood Funeral Home, 1832 W. Market St., Louisville, will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 14.
William L. Lieber
age 90; New Albany native
Funeral services for William L. Lieber, 90, of Louisville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 508 Breckenridge Ln., Louisville, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Louisville.
He was a native of New Albany.
Visitation at Ratterman's Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd., Louisville, will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 14.
Ermal Kellem
age 84; of Corydon
Funeral services for Ermal Kellem, 84, of Corydon, will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Corydon, with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Corydon. He died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at Indian Creek Convalescent Center, Corydon.
He was a retired employee of Richert Shoe Shop, Corydon, and a member of First Baptist Church, Corydon.
Survivors include a son, John Kellem, Corydon; a daughter, Particia Muntz, New Albany; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held 4 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 14, and after 8 a.m. Feb. 15.
Martha L. Zabel
age 78; of Corydon
Funeral services for Martha L. Zabel, 78, of Corydon, will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, with burial in St. John's Cemetery, Lanesville. She died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at Rolling Hills Healthcare, New Albany.
She was a native of New Market, a housekeeper and a member of Graceland Baptist Church, New Albany.
Survivors include two sons, Dwayne N. Zabel, New Albany and Kim Robert Zabel, Lanesville; three daughters, Cheryl K. Curts, Corydon, Dawn Lapinskas, Phoenix and Lena Albers, Salt Lake City; two sisters, Margaret Conner, Jeffersonville and Mildred Johnson, Charlestown; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman R. Zabel.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, and after 8 a.m. Sunday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Graceland Baptist Church Children's Building Fund.
Larry Joe Smith Sr.
age 64; of Fredericksburg
Funeral services for Larry Joe Smith Sr., 64, of Fredericksburg, are being made at Paul V. Shrader Funeral Home, New Albany. The body will be cremated. He died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003.
Charles V. Kerberg Sr.
age 73; Clarksville Fire Department retiree
Funeral services for Charles V. Kerberg Sr., 73, of Clarksville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his home.
He was a native of Clarksville and a retired captain with the Clarksville Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Kerberg; four sons, the Rev. Charles V. Kerberg Jr., Georgetown, the Rev. Steven L. Kerberg, New Albany and Arthur F. and Tony W. Kerberg, both of Clarksville; a sister, Mary L. Dole, Jeffersonville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
