James E. Golden

Dec. 12, 1942 - April 21, 1999

Mr. James E. "Jim" Golden, 56, of South Bend, Ind., formerly of Hattiesburg and Collins, Miss., died on Wednesday, April 21, in the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, Ind.

He was vice - president and general manager of Kossegi Industries in South Bend for three years. Mr. Golden was previously vice - president of manufacturing for Stevens Sportswear in Taylorsville, Miss., for 25 years. A 1963 graduate of the U.S. Navel Academy, Mr. Golden was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church in South Bend, where he was also an adult Sunday School teacher and was a member of the church's administrative council.

Mr. Golden is survived by his wife, Mary Nell (Ward) of Indiana; a son, James Douglas Golden of South Carolina; daughters, Sheri Browning of Texas and Kristy Fairburn of Mississippi; his mother, Elizabeth (Burroughs) Golden of Texas; stepsons, Kevin Rogers and Cody Rogers, both of Mississippi; brothers, John Golden of North Carolina and Kim Golden of Virginia; sisters, Beth Morgan and Debbie Richard, both of Texas; and by four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, in the Evangel United Methodist Church in South Bend. Burial will be private. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.

The Leppert & Hensley Mortuary, Indianapolis, is handling arrangements.

Contributions may be made to the Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society, 1795 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260.

Larry A. Jann

Feb. 26, 1929 - April 21, 1999

Larry Allen Jann, 60, of 1407 Lawndale, Niles, Mich., died of an illness at 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, in his home.

He was born to Wilbert Harold and Evelyn Lucille (Schram) Jann on Feb. 26, 1939, in Niles, and was a lifetime resident, graduating from Niles High School in 1958.

Mr. Jann was employed at American Technology and Design (formerly American Tool & Die) in South Bend since 1994, and had also worked at Advanced Engineering for 21 years. A professional wedding photographer, he co - owned De Jann Studio, later owned Jann's Photography and, most recently, K & L Photography.

He was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, and was a bass singer and player in the local band, The Family. Mr. Jann was the union president of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Worker Local 1384 in South Bend for 8 Þ years.

On Feb. 12, 1965, in Niles, he married the former Sandra Kay Sweet, who died on Sept. 11, 1993. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerald Jann, who died in infancy.

On July 13, 1996, in South Bend, he married Kimberly R. (Miller) Quinn, who survives.

He is also survived by his children, Keith Allen Jann of Buchanan, Mich., and Suzette R. Jann Horcin of Niles; stepchildren, Travis J. and Melonie R. Quinn at home, and Rhonda Panczak of Niles; his siblings, Russell Jann, Mark Jann, Cindy Jann, Julie Davis, Pat Teske and Maryann Billiard, all of Niles, and Robert Jann of Washington, Carol Motry, Shirley Erwin and Sandy Hornback, all of Gaylord, Mich.; and by seven grandchildren and a great - grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. (Mich. time) on Monday, April 26, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Niles, with the Rev. Canon Marian M. Kencik of the church officiating. Interment will be in Niles at Calvary cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. (Mich. time) on Sunday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, where an evening prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Jann may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Catherine O. Jeffries

Oct. 3, 1919 - April 22, 1999

Catherine O. "Kate" Jeffries, 79, of U.S. 20, New Carlisle, Ind., died at 7:17 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, in the Fountainview Terrace, La - Porte, Ind.

Mrs. Jeffries was born on Oct. 3, 1919, in Freelands - ville, Ind., to Edward and Elsie (Rob - bins) Brown.

On Nov. 1, 1941, in South Bend, as Catherine O. Brown, she married Luther Jeffries, who survives.

She is also survived by three daughters, Rita (James) Jackson of Kingsford Heights, Ind., Sparkle Jeffries of New Carlisle and Sandra (John) Bush of LaPorte; two granddaughters, Catherine (Jim) Sweet of LaPorte and Pam (Brian) Uidl of Kingsford Heights, Ind.; and a great - granddaughter, Christy Uidl; a sister, Fairy (Robert) Dawes of Peru, Ind.; and by a brother, Ronald (Irene) Brown of Indianapolis, Ind.

Catherine was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Mrs. Jeffries was a member of the Lydick United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 26, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle, with Rev. Kevin Buckley officiating. Burial will follow in the New Carlisle cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Lydick United Methodist Church, 26510 W. Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46628; or to the American Diabetes Association, 115 S. Lafayette Blvd., Suite 501, South Bend, IN 46601.

Agusta Simpson

Dec. 23, 1900 - April 21, 1999

Agusta "Belle" Simpson, 98, residing on Buena Vista, Kalamazoo, Mich., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.

Mrs. Simpson worked for many years at Uniroyal in Mishawaka, Ind., and at the former Avenue Bakery and Coffee Shop in River Park.

Agusta was born on Dec. 23, 1900, in LaGrange County, Ind., to the late Charles Carlton and Adeline (Atwater) Eaton, and lived most of her life in South Bend. On Dec. 23, 1919, in Hillsdale, Mich., she married Eugene Lyle Simpson, who preceded her in death in February 1985. She was also preceded in death by two sons: Charles W. Simpson passed away on Oct. 17, 1994, and Philip Simpson, formerly of Hobe Sound, Fla., died on April 1, 1999.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by a daughter, Zephine Culp of Kalamazoo; and by five grandchildren, seven great - grandchildren and one great - great - granddaughter.

Agusta was a member of the River Park Church of Christ, South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. (Ind. time) on Monday, April 26, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Pastor Thomas J. Short of the Deer Run Church of Christ, South Bend, will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. (Ind. time) on Sunday, April 25, in the Palmer Funeral Home.

Contributions in memory of Agusta "Belle" Simpson may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

Jack L. Brittain

Nov. 13, 1930 - Feb. 7, 1999

MISHAWAKA - Jack Lee Brittain, 68, of 13700 Willow Creek Drive, died Sunday in his home. Survivors include two brothers, Dale of Mishawaka and Charles of Indianapolis. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. There will be no visitation. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, is handling arrangements.

Hazel M. Cox

Nov. 25, 1910 - Jan. 21, 1999

MISHAWAKA - Hazel Mae Cox, 88, of Venus, Texas, formerly of Mishawaka, died Jan. 21 in her home of natural causes. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fairview cemetery. Bubb Funeral Chapel North is handling arrangements.

Donald R. Elder

Aug. 27, 1952 - Feb. 9, 1999

EDWARDSBURG - Donald R. Elder, 46, of 68314 Channel Parkway, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday in his home of an apparent heart attack. Survivors include his wife, Bonita K. (Sparling); two sons, Douglas of Miami and Benjamin of Edwardsburg; and his mother, Marjie J. (Elder) McNabb of Edwardsburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Josephine C. Farago

Feb. 17, 1917 - Feb. 10, 1999

NORTH LIBERTY - Josephine C. Farago, 81, of 63300 Pecan Road, died Wednesday in LaPorte Hospital after an illness. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Farago at home; and Rose Ann Farago of New Orleans. Services will be at 11 a.m. (EST) Saturday in St. Anthony Church, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Charlotte Glick

May 7, 1947 - Feb. 8, 1999

GOSHEN - Charlotte (Holsopple) Glick, 51, of 19889 Peach Ridge Road, died Monday in Elkhart General Hospital after an illness. Survivors include her husband, Del; a daughter, Renee Glick at home; her mother, Lydia (Shetler) Holsopple of Hollsople, Pa.; four sisters, Charlene Holsopple of Ephrata, Pa., Cathy Spory of Boswell, Pa., Carol Froese of Cheraq, Colo., and Christine Kauffman of Goshen; and a brother, Marvin of Harrisonburg, Va. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in College Mennonite Church. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Waterford Mennonite Church. Lawrence Hammers

Dec. 23, 1931 - Feb. 9, 1999

KNOX - Lawrence "Larry" Hammers, 67, of Liberty, Ky., formerly of Knox, died Tuesday in his home of natural causes. Survivors include five daughters, Patricia K. Tolson and Elizabeth A. Adams, both of Knox, Hazel L. Scott and Deborah L. Shrewsbury, both of Liberty, and Connie F. Risner of Winamac; and his stepfather, Jesse H. Powell of Campbellsville, Ky. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Kankakee Valley International Christian Center, Knox. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today in Braman and Son Memorial Chapel.

Cluster Howard

Sept. 4, 1940 - Feb. 8, 1999

KNOX - Cluster Howard, 58, of 2177 S. County Road 450 East, died Monday in Lexington, Ky., of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Iva; four sisters, Geneva Davis of North Judson, Beatrice Hounshell of Jackson, Ky., Marie Stacy of Knox and Flora McCollum of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and four brothers, Benten and Galen, both of Knox, George of LaPorte and Bill of Jackson. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Braman and Son Memorial Chapel, where friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today.

George E. Huskey

July 4, 1925 - Feb. 10, 1999

STILLWELL - George E. Huskey, 73, of 18 S. Floral, died Wednesday in LaPorte Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Lucille A.; a daughter, Brenda Huskey of LaPorte; and a son, John of LaPorte. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Haverstock Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Helen M. Korp

Feb. 15, 1920 - Feb. 9, 1999

NILES - Helen M. Korp, 78, of 1983 Lewis Drive, died Tuesday in Lakeland Medical Center - Niles, of natural causes. Survivors include a son, Robert Jr. of Wyandotte, Mich.; and a sister, Mary M. Dokey of South Bend. Services are at 1 p.m. Friday in Pifer - Smith Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour before services.

Betty Kramer

July9, 1920 - Feb. 10, 1999

THREE OAKS - Betty Kramer, 78, of Spruce Street, died Wednesday in Golden Place Retirement Home, St. Joseph, of natural causes. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Kramer of Houston, Minn.; a son, John of Three Oaks; and two brothers, Rudolph Kottemann of Cartersville, Ga., and James Kottemann of Alexandria, Va. Jeff A. Kraus

Dec. 24, 1968 - Feb. 3, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Jeff Allen Kraus, 30, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of South Bend, died Feb. 3 in an automobile accident on Belt Line Road, Dallas. Survivors include his mother, Nancy Cabanaw of Dallas; his father, Jack Kraus of Thomasville, Ga.; and two sisters, Lisa Hayes of Dallas and Michey Atkins of South Bend. Services were held Feb. 8 in Roselawn Funeral Home, Seagoville, Texas.

Gertrude E. Marko

Sept. 26, 1916 - Jan. 13, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Gertrude E. Marko, 82, of Fairington Circle, died on Jan. 13 in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Survivors include two sisters, Genevieve Stephens and Loretta Mitts, both of South Bend. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. Pauline M. Priest

Feb. 16, 1916 - Feb. 9, 1999

NILES - Pauline M. Priest, 82, of 310 Shillelagh Lane, died Tuesday in Lakeland Medical Center - St. Joseph. Survivors include her husband, Charles R.; a daughter, Susan M. Orr of Alexandria, Ind.; a son, Richard L. of Niles; four sisters, Dorothy Wynn and Phyllis Matthews, both of Mishawaka, and Helen Epson and Betty Bledsoe, both of California; and three brothers, John Eggert of Mishawaka, Eugene Eggert of North Carolina, and Bill Eggert of Arizona. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Halbritter Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour before services.

Evelyn M. Regney

ELKHART - Evelyn M. Regney, 63, of 51154 Blue Ribbon Lane, died Jan. 27 in Hospice House of South Bend. Survivors include her husband, Thomas D.; two daughters, Melody Wright of Baltimore, Md., and Deborah Graham of Seattle; and a son, Thomas J. of Seattle. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. There will be no visitation. Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
