Lillian M. Lehman

May 28, 1917 - March 29, 1999

Lillian Marie Lehman, 81, of Homewood Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 10:30 p.m. on Mon - day, March 29, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mish - awaka.

Marie was born on May 28, 1917, in Wakarusa, Ind., to the late Abram and Edith (Carroll) Lehman. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Kulp and Helen Cook; and by three brothers, Robert, Nelson and Paul Lehman.

On Sept. 27, 1936, Marie married Maynard K. Lehman, who survives.

She is also survived by three daughters, Carole Vendrick of San Jose, Calif., Peg Nelson of Santa Fe, N.M., and Dale Shafer of Alamo, Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great - grandchildren; and by three sisters, Frances Metzler of Wakarusa, Ind., and Laura Stack and Charlotte Shriver, both of Elkhart, Ind.

Marie retired in 1972 from the Wheelabrator - Frye Corporation being a longtime employee in the purchasing department. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mishawaka, past treasurer of Presbyterian Women, Questers (Antique Study Group), the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Mishawaka Women's Club, the MFB Breakfast Club, and was a volunteer at the Family and Children Center, Mishawaka, and Friends of the Library.

Friends may visit with the Lehman family from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, at the First Presbyterian Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Ronald P. Miller officiating. Private graveside services will be held in the afternoon at the Union Center cemetery, Nappanee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Family and Children's Center Foundation, Inc., 1411 Lincoln Way West, Mishawaka, IN 46544 - 1690.

Arrangements are being handled by Thallemer - Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka.

Joseph J. Lyczynski

March 10, 1909 - March 29, 1999

Joseph J. "Bouncer" Lyczynski, age 90, of Portage Rd., South Bend, died at 2:15 p.m. Monday in his residence.

He was born March 10, 1909, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Lyczynski retired from the University of Notre Dame.

On July 24, 1943, in South Bend, he married Esther Stachurski, who preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 1987. Surviving are two daughters, Tina (George) Wlochowski and Deborah (Bob) Wojtasik, both of South Bend; two sons, David Lyczynski of South Bend and Thomas Lyczynski of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren; a brother, Leo Lyczynski; and three nephews, Albert and Ronald Stachurski, both of Illinois, and Daniel Stachurski of South Bend. Preceding him in death was a nephew, Ralph Stachurski; three brothers, Edward, Anthony and Daniel; and a sister, Eleanor Miller.

Family and friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with burial to follow in the St. Joseph cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637.

Don Morrow

Oct. 27, 1931 - March 30, 1999

Mr. Don Morrow, 67, of Oak Street, Niles, Mich., died following a brief illness at 1:55 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, in the Lakeland Medical Center, Niles.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1931, in Arlington, S.D., to Carl and Lavina (Samuelson) Morrow, and had lived in Niles since 1990, coming from Raleigh, N.C.

Mr. Morrow retired in 1980 after 25 years of service with HUD in Philadelphia and Chicago. He was also formerly employed as a manager for Tempco, a home management company in Virginia Beach, Va.

He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Niles; a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army Airborne Division; and was a member of American Legion Post #26 and the Lions Club, both in Niles.

Mr. Morrow received a BA degree from South Dakota State University in 1956, and Master's degrees from Syracuse University in 1957 and Harvard in 1964. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and skydiving.

On Dec. 31, 1952, in Niles, he married the former Ellen L. Jones, who survives.

He is also survived by his children, Lea M. Wierer of New Berlin, Wis., Lyn Maahs of Sycamore, Ill., and Kurt Morrow of Gainesville, Va.; eight grandchildren; and by a sister, Joy Friedkin of West Hills, Calif.

Funeral services for Mr. Don Morrow will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, at the Halbritter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doctor Ronald H. Wakeman of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Charles R. Parker

Oct. 6, 1927 - March 29, 1999

Charles R. Parker, 71, residing on Hubbard Street, Mishawaka, Ind., entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 29. He had been a patient at Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center for one week.

Charles was born on Oct. 6, 1927, in Brazil, Ind., to the late Melvin and Rowena Woodruff Parker, and had lived in this community for 55 years, coming from Jasonville, Ind.

On Nov. 21, 1948, in South Bend, Ind., he married Evelyn L. Draves, who survives. This past November Charles and Evelyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

He is also survived by two daughters, Nancy Newbill and Judith Nevels, both of Mishawaka; a son, John Parker of Acworth, Ga.; four grandsons, Jason Parker, Joshua Parker, Brandon Nevels and Robert Nevels; and by two sisters, Reva Sutton of Noblesville, Ind., and Ellen Bowling of Indianapolis, Ind.

Charles retired as a mechanic from the Preston Trucking Company and was serving as a driver for Spectrum Pharmacy. He was a member of Apostolic Temple where he served as an usher. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Services for Mr. Parker will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, in Apostolic Temple. Rev. Peter Rowe and Rev. Paul Rowe will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9:30 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour prior to services on Thursday in the church.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Parker may be made to the Building Fund of Apostolic Temple, 2221 South Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN 46613.

Shaun T. Robinson

Oct. 30, 1980 - March 28, 1999

Shaun Travis Robinson, 18, loving father, son and grandson, of North Williams Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away as a result of a drowning accident.

On Oct. 30, 1980, in Joliet, Ill., he was born to Leola Robinson and Tommie Thom - as. He was a former member of the Bethlehem Healing Temple in Joliet.

Shaun leaves to cherish his loving memory a son, Deshaun Robinson, Jr.; his mother, Leola Robinson, both of South Bend; his father, Tommie Thomas of Stockton, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Ida Mae Stevenson of South Bend; paternal grandmother, Hattie Thomas of Clarksdale, Miss.; a special friend, Tiara Brown of South Bend; five aunts, his favorite aunt, Bertha Pam, Ida Mae Miller, Ella Allen, all of South Bend, Arie Johnson of Joliet and Georgia Mae Jones of Chicago Heights, Ill.; four uncles, James Stevenson and John Irving, both of South Bend, J.C. Robinson of Brookhaven, Miss., Reverend Joseph Watson of Clarksdale, Miss.; two special cousins, David and Alex Robinson; 34 other cousins; along with a host of great - cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at Alford's Mortuary, with visitation occurring one hour prior to services.

Alford's Mortuary is in charge of handling the arrangements.

Mary M. Abroham

April 13, 1910 - March 30, 1999

NILES - Mary M. Abroham, 88, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Niles, died Tuesday in Manorcare Nursing Home, Naples. Survivors include a sister, Victoria Abroham of Naples. There will be no services. The Beachwood Society Inc., of Naples, is handling arrangements.

Gertrude R. Bednar

Oct. 4, 1917 - March 28, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Gertrude R. (Summers) Bednar, 81, of East Lansing, Mich., formerly of South Bend, died Sunday in East Lansing. Survivors include her husband, John; two daughters, Colleen Hyslop of East Lansing and Anne Bednar of Ann Arbor; and a sister, Rebecca Ricke. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, East Lansing, where friends may call one hour before services. Additional services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, where friends may call one hour before services.

Elmer C. Bertrem

April 12, 1911 - March 28, 1999

ELKHART - Elmer C. "Bert" Bertrem, 87, of 50624 Manhattan Ave., died Sunday in his home. Survivors include three sons, Terrell L. and Clarence W., both of Elkhart, and Robert L. of Waycross, Ga.; and a stepdaughter, Rae L. Fell of Mishawaka. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Charles E. Bode

Feb. 16, 1914 - March 29, 1999

MISHAWAKA - Charles E. Bode, 85, of Crestwood of Tanglewood Trace, died Monday in Fountainview Place. Survivors include his wife, Ina M.; and two sons, Robert E. of New Carlisle and Thomas R. of Granger. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, and one hour before services in the church.

Lamar E. Bowser

Sept. 9, 1916 - March 29, 1999

ELKHART - Lamar E. Bowser, 82, of 1801 Boardwalk, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday in Elkhart General Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Vera G. (Dull); a daughter, Ann K. Leek of Bristol; a sister, Jeanette Van Dyke of Nappanee; and two brothers, Charles E. Jr. of Fort Wayne and Jack of Goshen. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Elkhart Chapel of Stemm - Lawson - Peterson Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour before services.

Paul E. Brewer

Feb. 28, 1946 - March 29, 1999

SYRACUSE - Paul E. Brewer, 53, of 52 EMS D17 Lane, died at 4:55 a.m. Monday in his workplace in Fort Wayne. The cause of death is apparently of natural causes but is under investigation by the Allen County Coroner, Phillip O'Shaughnessy. Survivors include his wife, Carla (Smith); a daughter, Tamara Sexton; a stepdaughter, Tonya Stark of Fort Wayne; his mother, Rowena Brewer of Syracuse; and a brother, Reese of Warsaw. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Eastlund Funeral Home - Harris Chapel, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Lynde F. Burkhart Jr.

Nov. 4, 1920 - March 29, 199

MISHAWAKA - Lynde F. Burkhart Jr., 78, of Basswood Road, died Monday in St. Joseph Community Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Florence (De Geyter); two daughters, Cynthia Lehner and Cheryl Lane, both of Mishawaka; two sons, Lynde F. III and Tom D., both of Mishawaka; and a sister, Katherine Goegebeur of Mishawaka. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hahn Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and a rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m.

Jill L. Carpenter

Nov. 30, 1965 - March 29, 1999

ETNA GREEN - Jill L. Carpenter, 33, of 118 High St., died Monday in Kosciusko Community Hospital, the result of an automobile accident at U.S. 30 and County Road 150 West. Survivors include her husband, Jack; two sons, Griffyn Lake and Quentyn Eugene, both at home; her mother and stepfather, Rita and Roger Thayer of Argos; her father, Jeff Yoder of Warsaw; and three sisters, Pam Eads of Indianapolis, Robin Davidson of Plymouth and Jennifer Yoder of Argos. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Country Church, Bourbon. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today in Deaton Funeral Home, Bourbon.

Mary Chapman

March 27, 1910 - March 30, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Mary "Bernice" Chapman, 89, of Lafayette, Ind., formerly of South Bend, died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday in Heritage Healthcare, West Lafayette. Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Weiand of South Bend, Janet Neubauer of Miami and Loretta Hobson of Lafayette; and a brother, George Hummer of South Bend. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette, where friends may call one hour before services.

Maeoper Chatman

Aug. 19, 1917 - March 26, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Maeoper Chatman, 81, of 4318 Western Ave., died Friday in Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes. Survivors include her husband, Richard; two daughters, Helen Snell of Chicago and Karen Newhouse of South Bend; a sister, Maylena Howard of Chicago; and a brother, Oliver Turner of Tucson, Ariz. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Second Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour before services. Clark - O'Neal Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

MISHAWAKA - Evelyn Diaz, 69, of 12th Street, formerly of Elkhart, died Monday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Survivors include a daughter, Tami Goodsell of South Bend; and a son, Michael A. of Cotton City, Mich. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, where friends may call one hour before services.

Clarence Dickey

Aug. 2, 1922 - March 29, 1999

THREE OAKS - Clarence Dickey, 76, of Schwark Road, died Monday in his home of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Ina; a daughter, Beverly Eastman of Hartford; a son, Thomas of Buchanan; a sister, Edith Wolford of Edwardsburg; and a brother, Aaron of Galien. SOUTH BEND - Frank E. Doyle, 86, of St. Paul's Retirement Home, formerly of Valparaiso, died at 11 p.m. Monday in the retirement home. Survivors include three sisters, Margaret Broadhurst and Edith Battenberg, both of Mishawaka, and Joan Voelkel of South Bend; and two brothers, Roger of Las Cruces, N.M., and Bernard of Forest City, Fla. Services will be at 10 a.m. (CST) Thursday in Bocken Funeral Home, Hammond, where friends may call one hour before services.

Charles D. Ervin

April 21, 1915 - March 29, 1999

MILFORD - Charles D. Ervin, 83, of 505 West Fourth St., died at 4:10 p.m. Monday in Lakeland Rehabilitation Center. Survivors include a son, Jerry of Cromwell; a stepdaughter, Linda Campbell of Warsaw; and two sisters, Lizzie Ervin of Warsaw and Suzanne Copeland of New Port Richie, Fla. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Palestine cemetery. Eastlund Funeral Homes - Mishler Chapel, is handling arrangements. There will be no visitation.
