LAPORTE - Viola M. (Ware) Kepper, 86, of Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 208 Miller St., died at 10:04 p.m. Sunday in the center. Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Roach of Hayes, Va., Shirley Wiseman of LaPorte, Carol Haubold of Pawnee, Ill., Nancy Giles of Yorktown, Va., and Patricia Lindgren of Decatur, Ill.; three sons, Richard Ware of Tacoma, Wash., Melvin Ware of LaPorte and David Ware of Greensboro, N.C.; and three brothers, Donald and Wayne Fair, both of Decatur, Ill., and Charles Fair of Inverness, Fla. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Essling Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Jerry L. Knight Sr.

May 17, 1942 - March 28, 1999

ROCHESTER - Jerry Lee Knight Sr., 56, of 5011 E. County Road 650 North, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday in Woodlawn Hospital, of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Barbara E. (Shireman); two daughters, Tammy L. Mathias and Pamela Fugate, both of Rochester; a son, Jerry Jr. of Rochester; his mother, Thelma Ewen of Rochester; two sisters, Linda Grover of Rochester and Cindy Price of Dover, Tenn.; and a brother, Charles S. of Kewanna. Graveside services will be at noon Thursday at Citizens cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron.

Frankie Kwast

Oct. 7, 1930 - March 26, 1999

MISHAWAKA - Frankie Kwast, 68, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Mishawaka, died Friday in Highlands Regional Medical Center, Sebring. Survivors include two daughters, Sherrel L. Norwood of Belleview, Fla., and Karla B. Storrer of Weidman, Mich.; a son, Michael A. of Three Oaks; and four sisters, Reuy Belcher of Danville, Ky., and Mae Hood, Maudie Jackson and Mary Long, all of Three Oaks. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring.

Pauline M. Lavanture

Aug. 30, 1920 - March 27, 1999

ELKHART - Pauline M. Lavanture, 78, of Oldsmar, Fla., formerly of Elkhart, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in her home. Survivors include her husband, Robert E.; two sons, Richard A. of Elkhart and Robert W. of Granger, a sister, Mildred Field; and a brother, Richard Lutz. There will be no services or visitation. Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, Clearwater, Fla., is handling arrangements.

Josephine Manns

March 15, 1947 - March 26, 1999

NORTH JUDSON - Josephine Manns, 52, of 601 Simmons St., died Friday in LaPorte Hospital, of natural causes. Survivors include her husband, Harald; three daughters, Versie Manns and Annie Manns, both of North Judson, and Hazel Manns of Plymouth; her mother, Rosie Fletcher of Winamac; and four sisters, Brenda Taylor, Vonda Minix, Mary Abanath and Shirley McDaniel, all of Winamac. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in O'Donnell Funeral Home, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Ray H. Mayfield

Oct. 25, 1920 - March 28, 1999

NAPPANEE - Ray H. Mayfield, 78, of 2006 Bittersweet Circle, died at 5:16 a.m. Sunday in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart. Survivors include his wife, Iola (West); three daughters, Darlene Berda of Morrisville, Vt., Phyllis Atkinson of Nappanee and Donna Williams of Michigan City; two sons, Carl of Elkhart and John of Chesterton; two sisters, June Euton of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Bessie Heflin of Shelbyville, Ind.; and a brother, Jerry of Arlington, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Chapel Lawn Memorial Garden Chapel, Schererville, Ind. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Reith, Rohrer, Ehret & Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa

NAPPANEE - Mary Alice Mutschler, 95, of Covington Manor Nursing Home, Fort Wayne, formerly of Nappanee, died Sunday in the nursing home of natural causes. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Coomer of Williamsburg, Va., and Portia Musgrave of Fort Wayne. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wdnesday in Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

April 29, 1908 - March 28, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Joseph E. Nemeth, 90, of St. Joseph Care Center, died Sunday in the center. There will be no services or visitation. St. Joseph Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Bethel M. Nicholson

Jan. 3, 1914 - March 27, 1999

WHITE PIGEON - Bethel Maxine "Beth" Nicholson, 85, of 607 E. Chicago Road, died at 3:43 p.m. Saturday in Sturgis Hospital. Survivors include two daughters, Karen M. Brown of Canon City, Colo., and Julie Anne Stahl of Sturgis; a son, David F. of White Pigeon; and a sister, Adeline Kearns of Salinas, Calif. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at White Pigeon Township cemetery. There will be no visitation. Farrand Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Donald G. Nine

Feb. 24, 1910 - March 28, 1999

SYRACUSE - Donald G. Nine, 89, of 500 E. Pickwick Drive, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Morgano of St. Charles, Ill.; a son, Philip of Indianapolis; five stepdaughters, Betty Becknell of Lambertville, Mich., Joyce Boyer of Elkhart, Marilyn Evert of Fort Wayne, Gwendolyn Snyder of Warsaw and Kay Van Pelt of Churubusco, Ind.; and three stepsons, Kerry Perlich and Clifford Perlich, both of Churubusco, and Roger Perlich of Fort Wayne. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Easlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

ELKHART - Mary E. Norton, 86, of 2601 Oakland Ave., died Sunday in her daughter's home, of natural causes. Survivors include a daughter, Patc Dunning of Elkhart; and two sons, Richard L. of Bentonville, Ark., and Hugh D. of Summerfield, Fla. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Edward B. Nowak

Nov. 24, 1920 - March 25, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Edward B. Nowak, 78, of Newsburg, Ind., formerly of South Bend, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday in Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center, Newsburg. Survivors include a son, Bruce A. of New Buffalo; and a brother, Bernard of Cedar Lake, Ind. Services were held Monday in Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, Evansville, Ind., handled arrangements.

Charles L. Parker

Oct. 6, 1927 - March 29, 1999

MISHAWAKA - Charles L. Parker, 71, of Hubbard Street, died Monday in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn L. (Draves); two daughters, Nancy Newbill and Judy Nevels, both of Mishawaka; a son, John of Acworth, Ga.; and two sisters, Reva Sutton of Noblesville, Ind., and Ellen Bowling of Indianapolis. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Apostolic Temple Church, South Bend. Friends may call from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend, and one hour before services in the church.

Robert F. Schmich

LAPORTE - Robert F. Schmich, 74, of 1809 N. Lofgren Road, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday in LaPorte Hospital. Survivors include a stepson, Robert Lydick of Rolling Prairie; and two sisters, Ruth S. Miller and Norene Quartuccio, both of LaPorte. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Essling Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and two hours before services Wednesday.

Selma E. Weissfuss

Dec. 14, 1903 - March 28, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Selma E. Weissfuss, 95, of Rockne Drive, died Sunday in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, of natural causes. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley C. Engel of South Bend; and a son, Richard P. of South Bend. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where friends may call one hour before services.

Bruce E. Wheeler

Dec. 8, 1952 - March 29, 1999

DOWAGIAC - Bruce E. Wheeler, 46, of 301 E. Wayne St., died Monday in his home after an illness. Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Wheeler of Dowagiac; two sons, Bruce and Phillip, both of Dowagiac; his mother, Barbara Wheeler of Tampa; and two sisters, Margene Reid of Largo, Fla., and Zenda Strunk of Coloma. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Groner Funeral Home, where friends may call after 10 a.m Friday.

SODUS - Patricia Eunice Wyant, 61, of 3797 Hartman Road, died Monday in Lakeland Medical Center - St. Joseph, of natural causes. Survivors include her husband, David G.; two daughters, Melinda Hafner of Syracuse, N.Y., and Carol Shade of Berrien Springs; four sons, Bruce of Coloma, Mark of Stevensville, Robert of Warsaw and Glenn of Eau Claire, Wis.; and two brothers, Walter Hunt of Turlock, Calif., and Robert Hunt of Bridgman. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire, where friends may call two hours before services.
