MISHAWAKA - Olivia J. Peterson, 82, of Shanower Drive, died Tuesday in St. Joseph Community Hospital. Survivors include three sons, Frank J. of Portage, Robert A. of Ashland, Ore., and Gregory A. of Colleyville, Texas; a sister, Elsa Luber of Biloxi, Miss.; and a brother, Charles R. Lambert of Nevis, Minn. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Mausoleum at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. There will be no visitation. Bubb Funeral Chapel North is handling arrangements.

Myrtle Pompey

Dec. 21, 1907 - June 29, 1999

VANDALIA - Myrtle Pompey, 91, of 17839 North St., died Tuesday in her home after an illness. Survivors include four daughters, Margie Pompey of Vandalia, Betty Musgrove of Cassopolis, Nancy Burgin of St. Paul, Minn., and Patricia Sykes of Chicago; and two sons, Earl Pompey Jr. of Marcellus and Harry Stevens of Chicago. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Connelly Funeral Home, Cassopolis, where friends may call one hour before services.

Sister M. Rosalia

Feb. 9, 1911 - June 30, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Sister M. Rosalia (Rosella Raleigh), 88, of Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, died Wednesday in the convent after an illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's Convent, where friends may call after 4 p.m. today. A wake service will be at 4:30 p.m. today.

Joseph W. Rambo Sr.

April 3, 1905 - June 30, 1999

BRIDGMAN - Joseph W. Rambo Sr., 94, of Baldwin Road, died Wednesday in his home. Survivors include a daughter, Dolly Krieger of Bridgman; three sons, Joseph Jr., Rene and Verne, all of Bridgman; and a brother, Harold Rambeaux of Oak Park, Ill. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in Boyd Funeral Home.

Frederick C. Stettler

March 1, 1904 - June 30, 1999

ELKHART - Frederick C. Stettler, 95, of Valley Health Care Center, died Wednesday in the nursing home of natural causes. Survivors include a son, Jack F. of Elkhart. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hartzler - Gutermuth - Inman Funeral Home, where friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Earl L. Stoneburner

June 24, 1927 - June 29, 1999

BOURBON - Earl L. Stoneburner, 72, of 2276 12th Road, died Tuesday in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus, of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Caralee; two daughters, Linda Sechrist of Remer, Minn., and Lori Quinn of Louisville, Ill.; a son, Stephen E. of Bourbon; two sisters, Iris Snyder of Plymouth and Carol Carlberg of Bourbon; and two brothers, Raymond and Cecil, both of Plymouth. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Deaton Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Alice J. Strozewski

May 17, 1916 - June 30, 1999

OSCEOLA - Alice J. Strozewski, 83, of East Jefferson, died Wednesday in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Misha - waka, of natural causes. Survivors include a daughter, Libera "Lee" Morgan of Osceola; four sisters, Camille Martindale of Syracuse, Henrietta Janowski of South Bend, Lucille Baldoni of Mishawaka and Patricia DeMarco of New Carlisle; and a brother, Francis J. Nowak of South Bend. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Catholic Church, South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Zahoran Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m.

Nora Belle Buckhanon

Feb. 15, 1932 - Jan. 13, 1999

Nora Belle Buckhanon, 66, was born on Feb. 15, 1932, in Wynne, Ark., to the late Leslie James and Naomi Pear - son. She departed this life on Wed - nesday, Jan. 13, at Park - view Hospital.

Mrs. Buck - hanon was a member of the Restoration Christian Worship Center for five years, the Oxford Association and the Fort Wayne Urban League. She was also employed with Fort Wayne Community Schools for fifteen years as a custodian, and the Fort Wayne Urban League Aids Task Force for five years.

Nora was preceded in death by her husband Charles P. Buckhanon; her parents, Leslie James and Naomi Pearson; and by a daughter - in - law, Vikki Buckhanon.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Charles P. Buckhanon, Jr., of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughters, Andrea (Robert) Jackson of South Bend, Gloria (Curtis) Garrett of Kokomo, Ind.; a sister, Rose L. Mills of Fort Wayne; six granddaughters, Leslie, LaTonya, Sherry, Tina, Lynn and Kay Kay; five grandsons, Charles, P.J., Henry, Tevin and Marcus A.; a special friend, Norma Brummel of Sacramento, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in the Restoration Christian Worship Center, Fort Wayne. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday in the Clark - O'Neal Funeral Home, South Bend.

Teresa L. Dominic

Aug. 14, 1903 - Jan. 18, 1999

Teresa Louise Dominic, 95, of the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of South 25th Street, died on Monday, Jan. 18, in the nursing home.

Teresa was employed with Wyman's Department Store in downtown South Bend, Ind., for 25 years, and worked for the Grand Trunk Railroad for 25 years.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1903, in South Bend, and had been a resident most of her life. Her parents, Catherine (Wandel) and William Dominic, preceded her in death; along with a sister, Irene C. Dominic on Aug. 29, 1987.

She is survived by a brother, William W. Dominic of South Bend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove cemetery, Notre Dame.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services in the church on Thursday.

The Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Theresa Elias

March 29, 1914 - Jan. 18, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Theresa (Nemeth) Elias, 84, formerly of Bulla Road, passed away following an illness on Monday, Jan. 18, in Regency Place.

Mrs. Elias was born in South Bend, Ind., on March 29, 1914, to Michael and Anna (Kompar) Nemeth. She retired from the University of Notre Dame Food Service Department in June 1979 after 23 years of service. Mrs. Elias was formerly a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church.

On May 19, 1931, in Berrien Springs, Mich., she married George Elias, who passed away on April 8, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her son, George R. "Dick" Elias on Feb. 1, 1992.

She is survived by her two daughters, Theresa Gatlin of Roseland, Ind., and Rosalie Torzewski of Granger, Ind.; a sister, Mary Welch of Cypress, Calif.; and by five grandchildren and a great - granddaughter.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend, with Rev. Donald Guertin, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at Highland cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to services in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Jean Freed

Nov. 19, 1924 - Jan. 17, 1999

WAKARUSA - Mary Jean Freed, 74, of Wakarusa, Ind., died at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17, in Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa.

Mrs. Freed was born on Nov. 19, 1924, in Elkhart County, Ind., to Henry Irvin and Agnes LeOmah (Enders) Pletcher.

She married James A. Freed on June 8, 1943, in Bethel Missionary Church. He died on May 20, 1984.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Kim) Swank of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. Rick (Tammy) Maust of Wakarusa; two sons, Mark of Escalon, Calif., and Joe Freed of South Bend, Ind.; seven sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Shirk of Homewood, Ill., Mrs. Hilda Hahn of Elkhart, Mrs. Harold (Maxine) Hisey of Bristol, Ind., Mrs. Robert (Esther) McGowen of Cornwall on the Hudson, N.Y., Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Berkey of Seymour, Ind., Jo Stein of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. James (Sandy) Bergin of Charlotte, N.C.; and three brothers, Ernest of Syracuse, Ind., Warren "Shorty" of La Junta, Colo., and Kenneth of Bristol.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Stickel and Pauline Motts; and by a brother, Donald Pletcher.

Mrs. Freed was a member of the Wakarusa Missionary Church. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper at the former Freed's Shoe Store in Wakarusa. She was also a member of the Progressive Homemaker's Club, Wakarusa.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, at the Rieth - Rohrer - Ehret - Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Wakarusa Missionary Church, where the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim Johnson will conduct the service and Rev. Dennis Owens will assist. Burial will be at Olive (West) cemetery, Elkhart, Ind.

Memorials may be made to Prairie Street Camp Grounds.

Suzanne S. Greene

Sept. 7, 1932 - Jan. 17, 1999

Mrs. Suzanne Sparling Greene, 66, of 224 East Avondale Drive, Greensboro, N.C., died on Sunday, Jan. 17, at home.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Cathedral of His Glory, 4501 Lake Jeanette Road. The Rev. Dr. Paul Willis officiated. After the services the family greeted friends at home on East Avondale Drive.

Mrs. Greene lived in Greensboro much of her life. She was a graduate of Greensboro Senior High School and Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.

She is survived by her husband, Haven A. Greene of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Sparling of Culver, Ind., formerly of Greensboro; three children, John Clark Mitchell of Whitsett, Donna Mitchell Lutz of Greensboro and Ellen Mitchell Daughtry of Fuquay - Varina; two stepchildren, Martha Holley Greene of Charlotte and Kelly Greene Atkinson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Ginna Sparling Doyle of Knightdale and Linda Sparling Brockey of Culver; and by six grandchildren and five step - grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Cathedral of His Glory, 4501 Lake Jeanette Road, Greensboro, NC 27455, where Mrs. Greene attended church.

The Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel is serving the Greene family.

Rev. Albin L. Hosinski, CSC

June 24, 1915 - Jan. 18, 1999

In your charity please remember in your prayers Father Albin Hosinski, C.S.C., 83, who died on Monday evening, Jan. 18, in Holy Cross House (The Works Hotel, South Bend, Ind.)

Father Hosinski was born on June 24, 1915, in South Bend, Ind., a product of St. Hedwig's parish and grade school. He attended Holy Cross Seminary at Notre Dame from 1930 until 1934, then entered St. Joseph's Novitiate, Rolling Prairie, Ind., where he professed his first vows on Aug. 16, 1935. After graduation from Notre Dame in 1939 he studied theology at Holy Cross College, Washington, D.C., and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop John F. Noll at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, on June 24, 1943.

Fr. Hosinski spent his entire priestly life in pastoral work; as an assistant pastor at Holy Trinity Parish in Chicago, Ill., for ten years, later religious superior there; eight years as assistant at his home parish, St. Hedwig's, and at St. Stanislaus, South Bend; as assistant twice (1953 - 56 and 1968 - 75) and pastor (1975 - 79). From 1979 until 1983 he was assistant at Holy Cross parish, South Bend. He resided at Holy Cross Mission House, Notre Dame, from 1983 until 1994, while continuing to do sacramental ministry in the area. Since 1994, until his death, he lived at Holy Cross House, Notre Dame.

Fr. Hosinski is survived by three sisters, Marie (Charles) Magner and Helen Hosinski, both of South Bend, and Clara Muellner of Mishawaka, Ind.; three nieces, Mary (Ronald) Sine of Battle Creek, Mich., Anne Marie (Tony) Farrell of Lansing, Mich., and Mary Beth Brody of Edina, Minn.; five nephews, Michael (Denise) Magner of Arlington, Va., Patrick (Maureen) Magner of Oak Park, Ill., James (Debbie) Kleiser of South Bend, Joseph (Roseanne) Kleiser of Brookfield, Wis., and Frederick (Lesley) Kleiser of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by nine great - nieces and great - nephews.

Fr. Hosinski was preceded in death by three sisters, Leonna Kleiser, Antoinette Brice and Dorothy Hosinski.

Viewing will be held from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today in the Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow in the Community cemetery.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Holy Cross House Renovation Fund, c/o Holy Cross House, P.O. Box 1048, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

The Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Georgette M. Hostetler

Sept. 10, 1918 - Jan. 17, 1999

Georgette M. Hostetler, 80, of Cameron, Wis., formerly of Lakeville, Ind., died on Sunday, Jan. 17, in Lakeview Medical Center, Rice Lake, Wis.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1918, in Canada, to Philomena and Neil McLean. She attended college at St. Mary's in South Bend, Ind., and Indiana University.

On June 5, 1937, she married Roy Hostetler. The couple farmed in Lakeville before coming to Wisconsin in 1971.

Georgette taught in Catholic elementary schools for eleven years, both in Indiana and Wisconsin, and was also active in the Retired Teachers Club. She was a member of the Indianhead Writers Guild, and was a free lance writer who wrote articles for "Countryside," a publication of the Barron News - Shield. She also wrote the book, Country Lore, based on the everyday life on the home farm. Being a member of the Laubach Literacy Council brought her great joy in helping others to become able readers.

Operating a family dairy farm, raising St. Bernards, owning the antique shop, "Antiques & Stuff," and all aspects of nature were a few things she loved, but her greatest love was her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Lawrence (Kathleen) Hostetler of Mishawaka, Ind, and Daniel (Susan) Hostetler; a foster son, James (Sharon) Jorgenson of Cameron; and daughters, Linda Hostetler of Menomonie and Rebecca Hostetler of St. Paul; and by 18 grandchildren and four great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy; a daughter, Suzanne Crain; a son, Ronald Hostetler; and by a grandson, John Eric Hostetler.

Services will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cameron at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, with Fr. Gerard Willger officiating. Interment will be at the Pine Grove cemetery in Stanley Township.

The visitation will also be held at St. Peter's from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either Heifer Project International, P.O. Box 808, Little Rock, AR 72203 - 0808; or to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607 - 2980.
