COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Marcella Gale Walters, 82, of Costa Mesa, formerly of Gentryville, Ind., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at her home.

Survivors include two sons, James Walters of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Charles Walters of Casper Valley, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Gibson of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Sharon Drake of Redding, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory, Dale (Ind.) Chapel. Burial will be in Garden of Memory cemetery in Gentryville. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a favorite church.

Linda Mae Dukes

DRAKESBORO -- Linda Mae Dukes, 73, of Hammond, Ind., formerly of Drakesboro, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at St. Margaret's Hospital in Hammond. The Muhlenberg County native was an associate with our Lady of Perpetual Help Church of Hammond.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, E.J. Dukes; three sons, James Dukes, Tommy Dukes and Bobby Jo Dukes, all of Hammond; two daughters, Carolyn Stewart of Manchester and Theresa Garner of Asheboro, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Raydan Alexander of Drakesboro; three sisters, Geneva Blackwell of Central City, Dorothy Vincent of Owensboro and Loyella Booth of Bremen; and a niece.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Peanut Community cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the family.

Ruth Legg Rhodes

EVANSVILLE -- Ruth Legg Rhodes, 69, of Evansville died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center in Newburgh, Ind., from cancer. The Owensboro native retired in 1998 after 18 years as manager of JLM Chemical Co. at General Electric Co. in Mount Vernon, Ind., and was president of Legg Oil Co. in Owensboro. She was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star No. 104 and Elks Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie R. Newcom of Philpot; three granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Stella L. Haynes of Mount Vernon, Ind., and Anna Raye Montgomery of Leitchfield.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday in Legg Family cemetery in Campton. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Bethabara Baptist Church, 2946 Ky. 142, Philpot, KY 42366.

Jessie L. 'Skinner' Hawkins Sr.
29 September 1999

EVANSVILLE -- Jessie L. "Skinner" Hawkins Sr., 79, of Evansville, formerly of Owensboro, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Welborn Baptist Hospital. He was born in Newman and was a member of Pilgrim Holiness Church. He worked in maintenance at Royal Estate Management Corporation. He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Paul Hawkins on Feb. 17, 1980, and Jessie Lee Hawkins Jr. on Oct. 1, 1989.

Survivors include five sons, Johnny Hawkins, Phillip Hawkins, Mark Hawkins and David Hawkins, all of Evansville and Richard Hawkins of Germany; two daughters, Dorothy Hemp of Evansville and Judy Wells of Newburgh, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Alexander East Chapel in Evansville. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery in Evansville.

Evelyn Field

EVANSVILLE -- Evelyn Field, 84, of Evansville died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Parkview Care Center. She was a homemaker, a Christian and enjoyed gardening and cooking. Her husband, Virl Field, died in 1953.

Survivors include a daughter, Madge Martin of Owensboro; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Browning Funeral Home in Evansville. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery in Francisco, Ind. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Benjamin E. Townsend

EVANSVILLE -- Benjamin E. Townsend, 81, of Evansville died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital. The Evansville native retired from Whirlpool Co. in 1980 after 30 years, enjoyed playing golf and was a pitcher for Sterling Brewery softball team. He was an Army veteran of World War II, earned the rank of Radio Technical Sergeant and attended Calvary Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. His wife, Reva Cole Townsend, died in 1998.

Survivors include four sons, Larry T. Townsend of Evansville, Edward W. Gazell II of Owensboro, David E. Townsend of Indianapolis and Benjamin E. Townsend Jr. of Mesick, Mich.; two daughters, Diane Conklin of Garland, Texas, and Angentina Bippus of Evansville; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home in Evansville. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marlene E. Heerdink

EVANSVILLE -- Marlene E. Heerdink, 67, of Evansville died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital. The Detroit native was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church, St. Ann's Altar Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church, VFW Post 1114 Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies Owls. She graduated from Bosse High School, volunteered at Food Pantry and Mesker Park Zoo and had worked at Anchor Industries.

Survivors include three sons, Delbert Heerdink of Evansville, Thomas Alford of Chandler, Ariz., and Joseph Alford of Pahrump, Nev.; three daughters, Kim Gilliam of Evansville, Tamara Starnes of Lancaster, S.C., and Teresa Davis of California; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Donna Foreman of Reynolds Station.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller & Miller Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Margaret Louise Allen

EVANSVILLE -- Margaret Louise Allen, 81, of Evansville, formerly of Hawesville, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at her home. The Hancock County native retired from ASCS Office as a planimeter operator and was a member of Hawesville Methodist Church. She was an associate member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Evansville and member of United Methodist Women. Her husband, Stanley M. Allen, died in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Terry Allen of Owensboro; a daughter, Donna Blackford of Evansville; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the United Methodist Church.

Lucille Hutchinson

EVANSVILLE -- Lucille Hutchinson, 85, of Evansville died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Holiday Health Care. She was a Kentucky native. Her husband, William Hutchinson, died in December 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Wells of Evansville; three granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph T. Martin of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Ruby Duke of Hartford and Lillian Lewis of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. today at Alexander West Chapel in Evansville. Burial will be in Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Foundation.

Judith 'Judy Bug' Goff

EVANSVILLE -- Judith "Judy Bug" Goff, 54, of Evansville died there Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Core Nursing and Rehabilitation from cancer. The Huntingburg, Ind., native had been vice president of the Tri-State Corvette Club, worked as a security officer for Whirlpool Co., where she won Officer of the Year in 2000, and was a 1966 graduate of Dale High School. She enjoyed attending car shows and had won many trophies for her car.

Survivors include a son, Dennis R. James Jr. of Evansville; a grandchild; and a twin sister, Joan Crask of Hardinsburg.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory, Dale chapel. Burial will be in Dale cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Katherine Long
19 July 2001

EVANSVILLE -- Katherine Long, 79, of Evansville died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Regina Continuing Care Center from heart failure. The Utica native was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. Her husband, Bernard E. Long, died April 2, 1984.

Survivors include five sons, Mark Long of Paducah, Michael Long and Donald Long, both of Newburgh, Ind., David Long of Evansville and Larry Bratcher of Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Borders of McDermitt, Ohio.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Nativity Catholic Church in Evansville. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Evansville. Alexander Funeral Homes & Cemeteries in Evansville is in charge of arrangements.
