Helen M. (Sigler) Warren

NEWBURGH, Ind. - Helen Warren, 88, of Newburgh passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Woodmont Health Campus. She was the daughter of Earl and Gertrude (Alvey) Sigler of Elbe. She graduated from West Louisville Kentucky High School. She moved in 1938 to Evansville with her husband, Orval, and young son. Helen was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her family's clothes. She enjoyed crocheting and making afghans for friends and family. She made several, which she donated to church for its annual auction. She was employed at Shane Manufacturing during the early 1940s. Helen is predeceased by her husband and daughter, Mary Jeneane (Warren) Garvin, who was killed in an auto accident in February 1976.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Warren and his wife, Constance, with whom she had lived before moving to Woodmont. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; Patsy Love, a niece from St. Joseph; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Titzer Family Funeral Home, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Jennings St., Newburgh, Ind., (812) 853-8314, and continuing with a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, Newburgh, officiated by Father Joseph Ziliak. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery. Visitation will be today, May 27, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m., and beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charles B. McDaniel

EVANSVILLE - Charles B. McDaniel, 70, of Evansville passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital. Charles retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1988 after 31 years of service. He enjoyed softball and played on the Whirlpool softball team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he served during the Korean War. Charles was a member of the VFW Post No. 2953 and the American Legion Eugene/Pate Post No. 265. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann (Webster) McDaniel of Evansville; sons, Charles Robert McDaniel and his wife, Judy, of Desert Hills, Ariz., and Ronald Dale McDaniel of Evansville; a daughter and son-in-law, Starla and Tony Racine of Evansville; his father-in-law, Melvin Veach of Evansville; and two grandchildren, Crystal Nicole Racine and Tiffany Marie Racine.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Kenneth L. Schmitt

DALE, Ind. - Kenneth L. Schmitt, 64, of Dale died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at his home. He retired from Alcoa after 30 years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Sue Schmitt; three sons, David Schmitt, Larry Schmitt and Steve Schmitt; a daughter, Cathy Jamniczky; a brother, John Schmitt; and two sisters, Millie Baker and Dorothy Neukam.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. Burial: Church cemetery. Visitation: From 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Prayer service: 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorial contributions: St. Joseph Church Building Fund. Fuller Funeral Home in Dale is in charge of arrangements.

Pauline Patterson

ROCKPORT, Ind. - Pauline Patterson, 90, of Rockport died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Rockport. Pauline was born in Centertown on Nov. 4, 1913, to the late Thomas J. and Sally (Bennett) Fielden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Rossen Patterson, in 1988.

Surviving are four sons, C. Ross Patterson of McColl, S.C., Roy S. Patterson of Grandview, Ind., Owen T. Patterson of Berea and James B. Patterson of San Antonio; a daughter, Judith A. Harris of Grandview; a brother, Roy T. Fielden of Naperville, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Freeman Powell officiating. Burial will be in Walton Creek cemetery in Centertown. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Otto E. Zimmer

DALE, Ind. - Otto E. Zimmer, 85, of Dale died Tuesday, May 31, 2004, at Professional Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was a farmer, a member of Dale United Methodist Church and an Army veteran of the World War II South Pacific Theater.

Survivors include a brother, Leon Zimmer; and a sister, Betty Lou Zimmer.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Dale United Methodist Church. Burial: Dale cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory in Dale.

Helen C. Russelburg Crowe

WHITING, Ind. - Helen C. Russelburg Crowe, 59, of Whiting, Ind., died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago. She was born in Daviess County to her mother, Ruby Russelburg Sutton, who survives. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Whiting. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lynn Crowe; "her father, Robert Russelburg"; and two brothers, Wayne and Darrell Russelburg.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Douglas Crowe; three sons, Billy Crowe of Fordsville and Jamie and Bradley Crowe, both of Whiting; six grandchildren; four brothers, Leo, Charles and Jerry Russelburg, all of Whitesville, and Paul Russelburg of Daviess County; and a sister, Judy McCarty of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cecil Funeral Home.

Juanita S. Pounds

GENTRYVILLE, Ind. - Juanita S. Pounds, 88, of Gentryville died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Rockport, Ind.

Juanita was born in Forest, Ind., on May 7, 1916, to the late George F. and Clara J. (Crabtree) Kennedy. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon A. "Doc" Pounds on Jan. 24, 2003; and a son, John L. Pounds in 1996.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet "Punkie" Botsko and husband Chuck of Gentryville; five grandchildren, Leon E., John Kirk and Drake V. Pounds, Stephanie "Stacy" Gottman and Kristina "Kristy" Rumley; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport with the Rev. Timothy Pounds officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery in Rockport.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. until time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Rockport Library or American Heart Association.

Regina 'Sue' Higgins

EVANSVILLE - Regina "Sue" Higgins, 66, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital. Sue was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and had worked for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. as a secretary.

She is survived by her husband, James Higgins, of 49 years; two sons, Steve and his wife, Teresa Higgins, of Evansville and Vance and his wife, Cindi Higgins, of Owensboro; two sisters, Myra Martin of Calera, Ala., and Deane Higgins of Jemison, Ala.; two granddaughters, Teila Higgins of Atlanta and Sheila Higgins of Evansville. Funeral services were Monday, July 12, at Ziemer Funeral Home, East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, with the Rev. Don Moore officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Gideon Bible Society or First Southern Baptist Church.

Robert 'Alf' Edney

BOONVILLE, Ind. - Robert "Alf" Edney, 77, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Bob started in 1944 part-time in the mines planting trees and in 1948 he worked in engineering and prospect drilling. He started his mining career on May 7, 1954, at Peabody Sunlight Mine Local 1016 and worked in production until 1968. Bob belonged to the United Mine Workers of America for more than 50 years and served in every local union office. From 1973 to 1977 he served as District 11 president, International Executive board member and also as district secretary treasurer. District 11 included the entire state of Indiana.

Bob returned to the mines after serving these positions and was a shovel operator at Oakland City Arycoe Mine, Local 352, where he took an active role in his local union. The mine closed in 1978 and he transferred to the Chandler Aryshire Mine, Local Union 1907, where he served as vice president of the Local, COMPAC Committee and Organizing Committee and continued to serve in these positions until his passing. He also served on various Black Lung advisory boards.

Bob was one of two members in Indiana who served on the Pensioner Leadership Committee. He also served as president of the Retired Miners of Southern Indiana. In 1999, he was recognized as UMWA Retirees in the United Mine Workers journal. Bob has been a delegate to the last 10 International Conventions, dating back to 1973, the most recent convention was held in September 2003 in Las Vegas.

Bob was active in Boonville's Little League Program for many years and the American Legion Baseball Program. Bob was a member of Stranger's Rest Masonic Lodge No. 240, Evansville Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine of Evansville, Boonville American Legion Post No. 200 and Boonville VFW Post No. 3418. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Edney, in 1999.

Bob is survived by his mother, Beulah Marlow of Owensboro; two daughters, Linda Edney of Newburgh, Ind., and Connie Ulrey and her husband Roger of Boonville; three grandchildren, Rob Ulrey and his wife Jana, Ryan Ulrey and his wife Amy and Jeff Ulrey and his wife Kristy; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Rae Ulrey and Kyra Rae Ulrey; a sister, Janet Raymond and her husband Ronnie of Owensboro; and two nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Koehler Funeral Home, Boonville Chapel, with burial in Maple Grove cemetery in Boonville, with military rites by the Warrick County Veterans Memorial Services. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to UMWA Local 1907 or ARC Industries.

Althea Virginia Chalfa

DALE, Ind. - Althea Virginia Chalfa, 78, of Dale died April 6, 2004, at Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale.

Survivors include a son, Robert Burchette; a daughter, Patricia Lynne Gray; and a brother, Gerald Vincent Smith.

Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory in Dale was in charge of arrangements.
