Margaret Emogene Rafferty

HENRYVILLE, Ind. - Mrs. Margaret Emogene Rafferty, 81, of Henryville passed away at 12:16 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, Scott County, Ind.

Mrs. Rafferty was born in Mosleyville on July 7, 1923.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Ellen (Hayden) Ballard. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Henryville.

She was the wife of Adron Rafferty, whom she married on Feb. 22, 1941.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sons, Howard Rafferty of Evansville, Roger, husband of Mary Jane Rafferty, of Owensboro, Richard, husband of Pat Rafferty, of Evansville, Cliff, husband of Suzy Rafferty, of Newburgh, Ind., and Jack, husband of Libby Rafferty of Borden, Ind.; two daughters, Margaret, wife of Donald Neu, of Evansville and Karen, wife of Keith Whitacre, of Keller, Texas; and four sisters, Louise Alvey, Lila Rose Chapman, Dorothy Clark and Wilma Smith, all of Owensboro. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Henryville at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, with Father Steve Shaftline officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis Catholic cemetery in Henryville.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at R.D. Pyke Funeral Service in Henryville.

The family requests donations be made to St. Francis cemetery, c/o the funeral home, P.O. Box 206, Henryville, IN 47126.

Robert Lee Thompson

DALE, Ind. - Robert Lee Thompson, 76, of Dale died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital in Huntingburg, Ind.

He retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Survivors include a son, Tim Thompson; and four daughters, Cathy Moore, Bobbie Wichterman, Sarah Beesley and Lisa Hudak.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory in Dale.

Burial: Garden of Memory cemetery in Gentryville, Ind.

Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Eric W. Hinton

BOONVILLE, Ind. - Eric W. Hinton, 64, of 2400 Keenland Parkway, Owensboro, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion, Ill.

He worked at Industrial-Weyerhaeuser Inc.

Survivors include two sons, Derek Hinton and Dwayne Hinton; a daughter, Debra Neal; a brother, Timothy Hinton; and two sisters, Susie Miller and Lisa Bornhop.

Services and burial are at a later date.

Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Koehler Funeral Home, Boonville chapel.

Gary G. Guisewhite

REO, Ind. - Gary G. Guisewhite of Reo died Friday, March 18, 2005, at his home.

Gary was born in Newton, N.J., on Jan. 5, 1949.

He was the owner of Carquest Auto Parts Store in Tell City, Ind.

Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Carol Guisewhite; a son, Colt Guisewhite of Rockport, Ind; a daughter, Arlene Erich of Maceo; four grandchildren, Kirk, Abby, Samuel and Clara Erich.

Graveside services 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Mount Zion cemetery in Richland, Ind., with the Rev. John Hilbert officiating.

Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport is handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 601 SE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Evansville, IN 47713.

Edward M. Hauser Sr.

TELL CITY, Ind. - Edward M. Hauser Sr., 80, died Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 8:55 p.m. at Beverly Health Care in Tell City.

He was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Tell City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma (Linne) Hauser; three brothers, Bob, Walter and Albert Hauser; and four sisters, Anna Frieler, Stella Kieser, Hilda Schriefer and Theresa Stroud.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Faye (Kelly) Hauser of Tell City; six sons, Larry of Tell City, Ron of Washington, Ind., Danny of Cannelton, Ind., Pat of Tell City, Edward of Owensboro and Charles Gray of Cannelton; seven daughters, Janice Weaver of Mooresville, Ind., Janet Kitchen of Ten Mile, Tenn., and Mary Noble, Rose Parker, Melissia Stinogel, Theresa Gronguist and Rachel Doogs, all of Tell City; 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray Hauser of Sun City West, Ariz.; and a sister, Wilma Jean Bledsoe of Springfield, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday, March 15, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, 920 10th St., in Tell City.

Burial will take place in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. EST today and from 9 to 11 a.m. EST at the funeral home.

Dorothy J. Melton

EVANSVILLE - Dorothy J. Melton, 85, of Evansville died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

She was born in Owensboro and is the daughter of Elma and Jane Gilbert.

Dorothy graduated from Western Kentucky State in Bowling Green, where she majored in English, minored in French and music and was an accomplished violinist.

She began her teaching career in Sebree, where she taught English at Sebree High School.

She was also the choir director at the Methodist Church in Sebree.

She met and married Clarence "Ross" Melton in 1942 and continued her teaching career until her daughter Janet was born.

In 1949 the family relocated to Evansville, where she became a member of the Methodist Temple participating in the Crusader Class and the Women's Fellowship.

Dorothy volunteered for eight years as a leader for the Brownie and Girl Scouts at Stanley Hall.

During this time she also volunteered at the Methodist Temple for vacation Bible school.

Dorothy later began working for the educational TV station in Evansville.

She then resumed her teaching career in 1962 at Central High School, where she taught French and English as well as accompanied students to France in the spring.

While teaching at Central High School she completed her master's degree at the University of Evansville.

Dorothy retired in 1977.

She loved playing bridge, sewing, and knitting.

She was a member of the Finesser's Bridge Group and Retired Teachers Association.

In retirement she enjoyed traveling and visiting all her family.

In 1998, Dorothy moved to the Protestant Home where she made new and renewed old friendships. Dorothy was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she touched many people's lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 40 years, Clarence Ross Melton, in 1982; and a grandson, Mathew Ross Welborn in 1997.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Janet Welborn of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Singer Island, Fla.; a brother, Robert E. Gilbert Sr. of Owensboro; grandsons Jay Welborn of Bolingbrook, Ill.; Aaron and wife, Jane, Welborn of Apple Valley, Minn.; great grandchildren Jillian and Jaden Welborn of Apple Valley; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Methodist Temple, officiated by the Rev. Robert Coleman.

Burial will be at Springdale cemetery in Sebree.

Friends may call Friday, Nov. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Temple.

Carl Frederic 'Fred' Walz Sr.

EVANSVILLE - Carl Frederic "Fred" Walz Sr., 87, of Evansville passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Deaconess Hospital.

Fred was born on January 27, 1918, in Evansville.

He graduated from Holy Trinity Grade School in 1931, graduated from Central High School in 1935 and attended evening classes at Evansville College.

Fred and his late wife, Jayne, resided on Feltman Drive for more than 50 years.

Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, and he was stationed at the Naval Supply Depot in Oakland, Calif.

While in the Navy, Fred completed courses and passed exams ranking to chief petty officer.

He was an assistant in the initial set-ups for the advance bases in the Pacific Theater.

Fred retired in 1983 from International Steel Co. as director of purchases after 47 years of service.

He was the past president and director for the National Purchasing Association from 1966 to 1967.

Fred was the founding president of the Stringtown Community Men's Club in 1951, past director of the Evansville Foreman's Club and loan executive for the United Way in 1981.

Fred was a longtime member of Old North United Methodist Church, where he served as the chairman of the board of trustees, official board, commission of finance and social concerns.

He was also on the building committee of the Boy Scout cabin and the Sunday school building and was co-chairman of the building committee for the New Sanctuary in 1953.

Fred was a Sunday school teacher at Old North UMC for 12 years.

Fred also was the Boy Scout institutional representative for 15 years.

After retirement, Fred became an avid golfer.

He enjoyed playing the piano, spending time with his family and friends and was loved by all.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jayne Hardy (Welsh) Walz, on March 28, 2004.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen Frederic and Tammy Walz of Dale, Ind., Donald Joseph and Kathy Walz of Evansville and Jonathan David and Joan Walz of Lynnville, Ind.; grandchildren, Amy (Walz) Ancheta, Andrew F. Walz and Anne Walz, Tracy Walz, Tiffany Walz and Joseph Walz, Justin Walz and Katherine Walz.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., with the Rev. Jeff Buck officiating.

Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Browning Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Old North United Methodist Church or the Boy Scout Troop No. 336, 4201 Stringtown Road, Evansville, IN 47711.
