PRINCETON, Ind. - Jamnaben P. Patel, 89, of Princeton passed away Monday, April 25, 2005, at her son, Dr. Ramesh Patel's, home in Princeton. She was born in India on Oct. 14, 1915. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Prabhubhai Patel; a daughter, Kamala C. Patel; two brothers; and an older sister.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Raman P. and Nirmala R. Patel of Petersburg, Va., and Dr. Ramesh P. and Sangita R. Patel of Princeton; a daughter and son-in-law, Madhu R. and Raman R. Patel of Buffalo, N.Y.; a son-in-law, Chhagan Patel of India; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. Cremation will follow on Saturday.

Garland Oran 'G.O.' Pirtle

TELL CITY, Ind. - Garland Oran "G.O." Pirtle, 94, of Tell City died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 21, 1911, in Hartford. Garland was retired from Maxon Marine after 33 years, where he was a superintendent and welding instructor. He later worked as a tow boat operator for Peabody Coal Co. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean (Hess) Pirtle; his father, William Penn "Willie" Pirtle; his mother, Clara (Wells) Pirtle Gibbs; and a half brother, J.T. Gibbs.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sherri (Maurice) Kleeman of Tell City; three sons and their wives, Lanny (Alice) Pirtle of Utica, Lowry (Joyce) Pirtle of Owensboro and Jason Pirtle of Tell City; two stepsons, Denny Hess of Shelbyville, Ind., and Terry Hess of Cannelton, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Marsha Spencer of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Brandon and Damion Kleeman, Tonya and Janet Pirtle, Sharron House, Karen Moore and Susan Warren; six great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jean Lacefield Gibbs of Florida; a nephew; and two nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City, with the Rev. Lance Lackore officiating. Burial will take place in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ or American Red Cross/Hurricane Katrina Relief.

John Patrick Whitaker Sr.

RAMSEY, Ind. - John Patrick Whitaker Sr., 71, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, Ind. He was born March 14, 1934, in Owensboro. He retired after 22 years of service in the United States Navy and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a terminal manager for Lafarge Corp. Louisville cement terminal before retiring in 1996.

He was a loving husband and father that will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy L. Greenwell Whitaker; four sons, John P. Whitaker Jr. of Ramsey, Joseph M. Whitaker of Austin, Texas, Stephen D. Whitaker of Portland, Ore., and Mark E. Whitaker of Ramsey; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. EDT Monday, May 9, 2005, at Swarens Funeral Home, 1405 Highway 64 NW, Ramsey, Ind. Burial with full military honors will be at Central Barren cemetery, New Salisbury, Ind. Visitation at the funeral home is from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 11 a.m. Monday.

Billie Ann Ayer

GRANDVIEW, Ind. - Billie Ayer, 68, of Grandview died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, in Warrick County, Ind. She was a housewife and a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Chrisney, Ind.

Survivors include a son, Lonnie Ayer; two daughters, Dearia Bolen and Rachelle Newton; and a brother, Mike Wright.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial: Grandview cemetery. Visitation: From 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: American Cancer Society.

Julia L. Euler

NEWBURGH, Ind. - Julia L. Euler, 92, of Newburgh passed away on Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at Angel River Health and Rehabilitation Center. Julia was a graduate of Memorial High School. She was a founding member of Garvin Home Economics Club and a charter member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Turner's Women's Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Matthias and Rose (Peters) Unfried; her husband, Alfred F. Euler; a son, James A. Euler; and three brothers, Richard, Raymond and William Unfried.

She is survived by five children, Alice and her spouse, William Czech, of Chicago, Patricia and her spouse, George Martino, of Park Ridge, Ill., Martha and her spouse, Ernest Koehler, of Simi Valley, Calif., Thomas Euler and his spouse, Mary, of South Bend, Ind., and Dorothy and her spouse, James Howell, of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Gertrude Euler of Knoxville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 South Green River Road, Evansville, officiated by the Rev. Raymond Kuper. Burial will follow in St. Joseph cemetery. A visitation will be held on from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the Titzer Family Funeral Home, Simpson Chapel, 510 W. Thomas Leo Hammers

ROCKPORT, Ind. - Thomas Leo Hammers, 56, of Rockport died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at his home.

Thomas was born in Evansville on March 9, 1949, to the late Lloyd and Pearl (Schmett) Hammers. He was an insurance salesman and a member of Sons of American Legion Post 254 in Rockport and Grandview (Ind.) Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are a son, Mickey Hammers of Plainfield, Ind.; a daughter, Rhiannon Hammers of New Port Richey, Fla.; three brothers, William Hammers of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Marvin Hammers of Richland, Ind., and Stephen Hammers of Morgantown; a sister, Zora Riggs of Eureka, Ind.; a grandchild, Mason Hammers.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2005 at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport with the Rev. Joe Greene officiating. Masonic service is at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial in James Parker cemetery in Hatfield, Ind.

Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. till time of service on Monday at the funeral home.

Raleigh E. 'Botts' Abshier

ROCKPORT, Ind. - Raleigh E. "Botts" Abshier, 87, of Rockport died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Miller's Merry Manor in Rockport.

Raleigh was born on July 21, 1917, to the late Claude and Grace (Barttles) Abshier. He was married to Thelma Elizabeth Young on April 1, 1937. Raleigh attended Grandview schools in Grandview, Ind. During high school and early years he drove a truck for Cadick's of Grandview. Raleigh served in the Army with the 75 mm Pack Artillery 10th Mountain Division at Fort Sill, Okla. From November 1947 until August 1949, Raleigh was the manager of the Rockport American Legion Jenkins Post 254. In August 1949 he began driving for A&H Truck Line out of Evansville until August 5, 1979, when he retired after 30 years. He was proudly a member of the Masonic Rockport Lodge 112, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite N.M.J. Valley of Evansville and the Hadi Shrine Temple, A.AO.N.M.S. of Evansville. Raleigh and Thelma were supporters for many years of the Shriner's Circus Mom and Dad program. He was a dedicated member of Jenkins Post 254 American Legion in Rockport where he served on the executive board and the honor/color guard. He and Thelma enjoyed watching Legion Baseball and traveled to many games. It was his joy to serve as the Eighth District Golf Chairman. He belonged to the American Legion Member Century Club being a member for 59 years. For many years he was a member of the Lakewood Country Club in Rockport. Raleigh's passion was golf and playing in many American Legion golf tourneys. He played on many golf courses across the United States and also played in tournaments in Washington, D.C. Raleigh and Thelma's love of travel took them throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Schwoeppe, Deborah Hancock and husband Rick, Shawn Abshier and wife Mimi, Christopher Abshier, Vince Abshier, and wife Amy, Brad Abshier and wife, Erin Abshier, Zachory Abshier and wife, Jeremy and Ryan Abshier; 26 great-grandchildren, Nick, Jessica and Jeff Vessels, Sarah, Tonya and Matthew Daniels, Kelsey Minto, Madison and Rowland Maurice Scheesele, Mya and Heather Schwoeppe, Tammy, Stephanie, Lara, Bryce and Brandon Hancock, Jackson Thomas, Holden, Matthew, Megan, Maxwell, Seth, Corey, Susie, Sabrina and Ashtyn Abshier; brothers-in-law, Ray Young and wife Doris of Warrenton, Va., Dr. Joseph Young and wife Betty of Franklin, Ind., and Robert Harris of Austin, Texas; many nieces and nephews including Phyllis Scheessele and husband Nick of Owensboro and Claude Crossley and wife Brenda of Midway, Ind.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport with Father Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery in Rockport with American Legion Post 2544 graveside services. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Masonic service is 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Linda Sue Pass

NEWBURGH, Ind. - Linda Sue Pass, 44, of Newburgh died at her home Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, from complications of breast cancer. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Elizabeth Ministry. Linda was also a member of the Daughters of the King Bible study. Linda had previously worked at the Evansville Courier and was marketing director for Action Pest Control. She loved decorating, planning children's activities, annual Easter egg hunts and enjoyed creative writing.

Linda is survived by her husband of 11 years, Kevin Pass of Newburgh; a son, Samuel Pass of Newburgh; a daughter, Sheridan Pass of Newburgh; a stepdaughter, Rachael Pass of Louisville; her parents, Tom and Ella Ludlam of Newburgh; two brothers, Tom Ludlam Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Columbus, Ohio, and Tim Ludlam and wife, Jennifer, of Indianapolis; two nephews, Holtz and Jack Ludlam; a niece, Kim Ludlam; and several aunts and uncles.

Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Joseph Ziliak, with entombment at Park Lawn Mausoleum at a later date. Friends may call today, Oct. 31, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel and Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Walther Cancer Institute for Breast Cancer Research.

Vernon Leroy 'Freddie' Gorman

ROCKPORT, Ind. - Vernon Leroy "Freddie" Gorman, 80, of Rockport died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at his home. Freddie was born in Grandview, Ind., on Dec. 1, 1923, to the late Wallace and Evelyn Lucille (Thurman) Gorman. He was a welder for Lincoln Natural Gas, a World War II veteran, a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association and served as president of the Tell City chapter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Gorman, in 1986; and a brother, Cecil E. Gorman of Owensboro.

Surviving are a son, Edward Gorman of Boonville, Ind.; two brothers, Elmer J. Hall of Rockport and Tommy Hall of Tell City; four sisters, Alberta Rice of Rockport, Nila Jean Hall and Ruth Ellen Terry, both of Tell City, and Irma Fay Bryan of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Brian and Kyle Gorman; and a great-grandchild, Elijah Gorman.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Gorman officiating. Burial with American Legion Post No. 254 graveside services will be in Sunset Hill cemetery in Rockport. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Arthur L. 'Skip' Curry

AUSTIN, Ind. - Arthur L. "Skip" Curry, 70, of Austin, formerly of Cloverport, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Veteran's Hospital in Louisville. He was born March 21, 1934, in Jeffersonville, Ind., son of the late Arthur W. Curry and Loraine E. Stevens Curry. He retired from Roberts and Stracks Veneer and worked for Pinkerton & Moore Security Guard Service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Disabled American Veterans in New Albany, Ind.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Curry of Austin; three daughters, Mary Renee Greenwell of New Albany; and Sherry Cullen and Karen Curry, both of Austin; a son, Jason Curry of New Albany; a sister, Garrie Marie McCowan of New Albany; three brothers, Robert Curry, Ronald Curry and Duffy Curry, all of New Albany; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport. Burial will be in Cloverport cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Street Church of Christ in New Albany.
