Blair "Jack" Tadlock
age 77; of Otisco
Funeral services for Blair "Jack" Jackson Tadlock, 77, of Otisco, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. He died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002.
He was a retired corporate engineer for Ralston Purina.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Tadlock; a son and daughter-in-law, Deon Tadlock, MD and Belinda Braggs, MD of Jackson, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, L. Jill Tadlock Bath and Ron Bath, Louisville; a daughter and her friend, Toni Tuttle, Otisco and Danny Schmidt, New Albany; a brother, Ray Vaught Tadlock, Pageland, S.C.; a sister, Corliss T. Jordan, Pageland, S.C.; five grandchildren, Coari and Stacy Tuttle, Ina de Mattos and Aaron and Ashley Brincko.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Charlene B. Kemp
age 64; of Clarksville
Charlene B. Kemp, 64, of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at her residence.
She was a native of Owensboro, Ky., and a cook for Kingfish Restaurants.
Survivors include a son, Randall Kemp, Borden; daughters, Rhonda Shepherd, Fort Wayne, and Timberlee Carter, Lakeland, Fla.; brothers, John Logsdon, Louisville, and Marvin Logsdon, Kendallville; sisters, Chrystell McGowan, Louisville, Patricia Robinson, Pewee Valley, Ky., and Carolyn Clement, Illinois; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Shannon Shepherd, Erika, Steven and Scott Carter, Bradley Kemp, Ashley Miller and Kevin Whitler.
No services will be held, the body will be cremated.
Chapman Funeral Home in Clarksville is handling arrangements.
William Noble
age 89; carpenter
Funeral services for William Noble, 89, of Clarksville, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, both in New Albany. He died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at his residence.
He was a native of Breathitt Co., Ky., a lifelong self-employed carpenter, and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Clarksville.
Survivors include sons, James M. Noble, Clarksville, and Wilbert M. Noble, Henryville. a daughter, Janice F. Scott, Clarksville; sisters, Martha Strong, Richmond, Ky., Maude Tyra and Minnie Lou Strong, both of Jackson, Ky., and Margie Lewis, Columbus, Ohio; a half-sister, Ida Mae Hart, Windber, Penn.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jeanette Noble; and his brothers, Tom and Woodrow Noble.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, and after 9 a.m. Saturday, Oc. 26, at the funeral home.
Hollis C. Prather
age 81; of Sellersburg
Funeral services for Hollis C. Prather, 81, of Sellersburg, will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Garr Funeral Home, Sellersburg, with interment at Silver Creek Cemetery. She died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, in Monroe, Louisiana, after a brief illness.
She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Charlestown.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mike Crider, Monroe, La.; a grandson, Jeremy Mike Crider, Monroe, La.; sisters, Norma Jean Zimmerman, Sellersburg, and Marie Standley, Ormond Beach, Fla.; and a brother; Darrell Vernon Couch, Tallahassee, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Albert Prather; her parents, Darcie W. and Lillie Couch; and two brothers, Gilbert F. and Darcie Kenneth Couch.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the funeral home.
Cecil Paul Smith
age 78; World War II veteran
Cecil Paul Smith, 78, of Jeffersonville, died Jan. 27, 2003, at University of Louisville Hospital.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
The body was cremated with Coots Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Anna Louise Palmer Wolverton
age 83; of Charlestown
Funeral services for Anna Louise Palmer Wolverton, 83, of Charlestown, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. She died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Wedgewood Manor in Clarksville.
She was a native of Charlestown, a former secretary and a former photographer for The Leader.
Survivors include four sons, Richard L. Palmer, Charlestown, Roger Palmer, Jeffersonville, John Palmer, Bronston, Ky. and David Palmer, Elizabethtown, Ky.; four daughters, Deloris Gathof, Shepherdsville, Ky., Sharon Reynolds, Charlestown, Mary G. Borraga, Louisville and Patricia Borraga, Jeffersonville; a nephew, Kay Wessel, Memphis; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 18, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Elsie M. Fenwick
age 88; of Floyd Knobs
Funeral services for Elsie M. Fenwick, 88, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Galena Cemetery. She died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
She was a native of Stithton, Ky. and was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde O. Fenwick.
Survivors include a daughter, Lana "Polly" Elzy, Floyds Knobs; two sisters; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be until 8 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, Feb. 18 and after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Red Cross.
Lola Belle Blair
age 91; New Washington native
Lola Belle Blair, 91, Morehead, Ky., died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville.
She was born March 9, 1911 in New Washington to the late J.R. Haycox and Emma Bower Haycox.
She was a former president of the Kentucky Nurses Association, was Morehead's first woman city council member, and served more than 20 years as a public health nurse for the Johnson County Health Department in Paintsville. She inoculated school children throughout the county and visiting patients in rural areas by jeep and often on foot. She graduated from St. Joseph Infirmary School of Nursing in Louisville and was a member of the First Christian Church of Morehead.
She was active in many organizations in Paintsville and Morehead and was instrumental in the formation of the Morehead Business and Professional Women's Club, was a member of the Painted Hills Garden Club, the James T. Morehead Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order of the Eastern Star, Morehead Woman's Club and the Rowan County Medical Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Dr. James P. Akin and his wife, Barbara, Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Alice Akin, Morehead, Ky.; a grandson, Dr. Jonathan Akin, Natchitoches, La.; a brother, Charles Haycox, New Washington; two stepsons, Dr. Donald E. Blair and Paul Wilson Blair, both of Morehead, Ky.; three step grandchildren, Lisa Banks and Jennifer Anderson, Morehead, Ky., and Donald E. Blair II, Mount Sterling, Ky.; special friends, Jerry and Faye Stamper, Elliott County, Ky., and the staff of Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was preceded in death in 1956 by her first husband, Dr. W.E. Akin Jr., a surgeon at Paintsville Hospital; her second husband, whom she marred in 1963, Dr. Everett D. Blair, a Morehead physician, in 1968; a son, William Allen Akin; three brothers and a sister.
Graveside services were conducted Jan. 28 at Wells Family Cemetery
in Paintsville, with the Rev. Dr. John Dunsan officiating.
Visitation was held at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the First Christian Church of Morehead, the Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church of Paintsville or St. Claire Hospice.
Rev. Edmund Moore
age 84; of Louisville
Funeral services for the Rev. Edmund Moore, OFM, 84, of Louisville, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Cemetery. Bosse Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of arrangements. He died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at Caritas Hospital, Louisville.
He was a Franciscan Friar of the Province of St. John the Baptist in Cincinnati for 65 years, and a priest for 57 years.
