59; Air Force veteran
Funeral services for James Lee Johnson, 59, of Marysville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Eastern Cemetery. He died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Louisville.
He was a native of Ann Arbor, Mich., an Air Force veteran of the Vietname War and a retired college recruiter for U.E.I.
Survivors include a daughter, Monite J. Hogan and her husband, Danny, Louisville; a son, Brandon W. Johnson, Louisville and grandchildren, Ashlee N. and Thomas K. Hogan.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 and after 9 a.m. Monday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
John Ray Pearson
64; retired teacher
Funeral services for John Ray Pearson, 64, of New Albany, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Mt. Tabor United Presbyterian Church, with burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. He died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at his home.
He was a native of Irvine, Ky. and a retired teacher for Greater Clark County School Corporation. He was a member of Sertoma (Service To Mankind), Retired Teachers Southeast Division, Ivy Diggers Camping Club and Mt. Tabor United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, David Scott Pearson, New Albany; a daughter, Kimberly Faith Pearson, New Albany; a brother, James Arthur Pearson, Lawrenceville, Ill.; two sisters, Christine Chamblee, Ider, Ala. and Minnie Jo Price, Jeffersonville; three grandchildren, David Michael Larry Pearson, John Garrett Curtsinger and Tyler Ray Curtsinger.
Visitation at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Oak Street Chapel, will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 and after 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care of Southern Indiana or Mt. Tabor United Presbyterian Church.
Edward Singleton
80; of Elizabeth
Funeral services for Edward Singleton, 80, of Elizabeth, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
He was a native of Kings Mountain, Ky., retired from Monon Railroad and the Banner Transfer Company. He was a member of Jefferson Masonic Lodge 104 F & AM.
Survivors include four daughters, Monica Atwood, Elizabeth, Bonnie Landreth, Bedford, Linda Kirby, Auburndale, Fla. and Vicki Sonatag, Craig, Colo; a sister, Marcella Bowerman, Jeffersonville; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet May Singleton.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.
Stephen Albert Hill
55; former Clarksville resident
Private graveside services for Stephen Albert Hill, 55, of Columbus, formerly of Clarksville, will be held Monday, Sept. 13, at Garland-Book Cemetery, Columbus. He died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
He was a former resident of Clarksville.

Donald H. Brown
80; World War II veteran
Donald H. Brown, 80, of Dunnellon, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2004, in Ocala, Fla.
A native of Louisville, he moved to Dunnellon six years ago from LaBelle, Fla. He was a retired choral and band teacher teaching for more than 33 years with the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation. He was a slide trombone master and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with Special Services and traveled entertaining troops overseas in the Philippines and Solomon Island. He was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and a lifetime member of the Louisville Federation of Musicians Local 11-637. He was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Citrus Springs, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, of 25 years, Mary A. Brown; a daughter, Donna Peerenboom and her husband, Joe, Kernersville, N.C.; stepdaughter, Dena French and her husband, Doug, Georgetown; grandchildren, Morgan and Josh Peerenboom, Kernersville, N.C. and step grandchildren, Alex and Katy Keller, Georgetown.
Fero Funeral Home, Dunnellon Chapel, 7620 S. U.S. Hwy. 41, Dunnellon, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
Moses Cornell Gilbert
88; of Marysville
Moses Cornell Gilbert, 88, of Marysville, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

Fred James Smith
68; retired chief of detectives
Funeral services for Fred James Smith, 68, of Jeffersonville, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at his home.
He was a native of South Bend, an Army veteran of the Vietname War and was retired Chief of Detectives for Clark County Police Department. He was owner of the Fred Smith Agency, Jeffersonville and a member of American Legion Post 35, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1832, Clark County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, Clark Masonic Lodge 40 and the Evansville Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Edith L. Smith; a son, James Smith, Jeffersonville; two daughters, Terri Chadwell, Jeffersonville and Dottie Hubbs, Oldham County, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Paula Dalby, Salt Lake City, Utah and Pam Clark, Indianapolis; two sisters, Catherine Kelley and Shirley Rosander, both of South Bend; two cousins who were like his sisters, Joy Bonek, South Bend and Faith Sandusky, Forestburg, Texas and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Garland Griffin and a sister, Carol Jean Jaronik.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Southern Indiana.
Donald Wayne Brown
57; of Galena
Funeral services for Donald Wayne Brown, 57, of Galena, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Navilleton, with burial in the church cemetery. He died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at his home.
He worked at the old Gibson's Grocery in Galena and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Navilleton.
Survivors include his mother, Angela M. Peterson Brown, Galena; two brothers, Stanley O. Brown Jr. and wife, Judy, Tampa, Fla. and Edward Brown and wife, Becky, Galena; two sisters, Patricia Noble and husband, Royse, Louisville and Shirley Gordon and husband, Joe, Indianapolis; four nieces; four nephews and five great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley O. Brown Sr.
Visitation at Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Ln., New Albany, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 10, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Bradley N. Cain, 50, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, with burial in the Perseverance Chapel Cemetery
near Corydon. He died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at his home.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 10 and after 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.

79; former Sellersburg resident
Funeral services for Ira A. Young, 79, of Newark, Ohio, were held at 1 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, Sept. 9, at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Newark, Ohio. She died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at Newark Healthcare Centre.
Visitation was held Wednesday at the funeral home.
