age 61; Air Force veteran

Funeral services for James M. Howell, 61, of St. Louis, Mo., will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at St. Augustine Church in Jeffersonville, with burial in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Jeffersonville. He died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Ashville, N.C.

He was a regional manager for Interstate Blood Bank, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era, a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Community Service Board Inc., and past president of Community Housing Board.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis A. Howell; two sons, J. Mark Howell, Indianapolis and Richard D. Howell, Jacksonville, Fla.; a stepson, Darrell E. Bennett, Desloge, Mo.; two sisters, Kathy A. Kruer, Jeffersonville and Jeanne M. Schmidt, Floyds Knobs; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Coots Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Neville "Jack" Wynmore Carter

78; World War II veteran

A memorial service for Neville "Jack" Wynmore Carter, 78, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 , at Scott Funeral Home North Chapel. The body will be cremated. He died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, in Jeffersonville.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a cartographer for Defense Mapping Agency, a member of the Louisville Area Map Makers Society and the Botanical Society.

Survivors include two sons, Bryan Carter and his wife, Amy, of Louisville and Neville Bruce Carter and his wife, Diane, of Lexington, Ky.; a step-son, Madison Combs and his wife, Mary Anne, of Muncy, Pa.; a daughter, Cheryl McGruder and her husband, Kevin, of Louisville; a step-daughter, Karen Combs, Lafayette; his companion, Elaine Combs, Jeffersonville; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Neville Carter and his mother, Helen Creamer Carter.

Visitation at the funeral home is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 29.

Connie Will Gibson

65; business owner

Funeral services for Connie Will Gibson, 65, of Clarksville, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Graceland Baptist Church with burial at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens. She died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was a native of Science Hill, Ky., and resided most of her life in Clarksville. She owned and operated her own wallpapering business, retiring after 25 years. She was a longtime member of Graceland Baptist Church, a member of the Prayer Warrior Ministry and Women's Ministry at the church. She was also a member of the Rosie the Riveter Society.

Survivors include her husband, H. Ray Gibson; a son, Gary Jackson and his wife, Lesa, of Indianapolis; four daughters, Cathy Avischious and her husband, Tom, of Colorado Springs, Co., Sandy Klotz and her husband, Ken, of Louisville, Becky Voyles and her husband, Scott, Sellersburg and Mary Ellen Coomer and her husband, Dennis, of Martinsville; her father, Calvin Will, Clarksville; her sister, Vickie Croston, Texas; her sister-in-law, Becky Champion, Fla.; eleven grandchildren and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose "Rosie the Riveter" Monroe and her brother, Troy Will.

Visitation at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Graceland Baptist Church, Hospice of Southern Indiana or cancer research.

Geraldine Marie Hoyland

61; IBM storage manager

Funeral services for Geraldine Marie Hoyland, 61, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at her home.

She was a native of Louisville, a storage manager at IBM and a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Hoyland and his wife, Christa, of Jeffersonville, and Jim Hoyland and his wife, Renee, of Charlestown; two daughters, Judy Hoyland, of Louisville and Amy Richey and her husband, A.J., of Clarksville; her father, Robert M. Moore and her mother, Marie C. Moore, both of Louisville; two sisters, Marilyn Matheny and her husband, Ron, of St. Simons Island, Ga. and Patti Hafendorfer and her husband, Dan, of Louisville; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Moore.

Visitation at Scott Funeral Home North Chapel will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association or St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Leo Anthony 'Boob' Koerber

80; retired truck driver

Funeral services for Leo Anthony "Boob" Koerber, 80, of Starlight, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Starlight with burial in the church cemetery. He died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at home following an illness.

He was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a World War II veteran, a retired truck driver with OK Trucking Company, and a farmer. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He was a former member of the River City Bass Masters and Teamsters Local #89.

Survivors include his wife of more than 57 years, the former Catherine Lucille Koetter; four sons, James Koerber and his wife, Rita, Stephen Koerber and his wife, Donna, Michael Koerber and his wife, Felicia, and John Koerber and his wife, Michele; eight daughters, Kathy King and her husband, Roland, Ann Bennett and her husband, Mike, Jean Everage and her husband, Larry, Mary Temple and her husband, Mike, Roberta Craig and her husband, John, Betty Roll and her husband Dave, Joy Foster and her husband, Tim and Rosie Schmidt; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Liz Koerber.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Anthony and a daughter-in-law, Barbara.

Visitation at Kraft Funeral Services, 2776 Charlestown Road, will be from 3 to 8 pm. today, Saturday, Nov. 29, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Shouthern Indiana, 624 E. Market St. in New Albany or to his church.

Louis Lee Noble

71; Marine veteran

Funeral services for Louis Lee Noble, 71, of Jeffersonville, were held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 29, at Brighter Day Anderson Temple Church of God In Christ, 1755 E. Eighth Street in Jeffersonville, with burial in Louisville Cemetery. He died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Louisville, a retired employee of Colgate Palmolive, a United States Marine Veteran, the musician at Brighter Day Anderson Temple Church of God in Christ for more than 30 years and a member of Brighter Day Anderson Temple Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Noble; a daughter, Tonita Baker; three stepdaughters, Teresa Thurman, Sue Sutton and Mary Ragland; one stepson, Robert Thurman; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Perryman's Mortuary, 3237 W. Broadway in Louisville, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Ann Phillips

55: Schimpff's employee

Funeral services for Helen Ann Phillips, 55, of Jeffersonville, will be held Monday, Dec. 1 at Scott Funeral Home Main Street Chapel. The body will be cremated. She died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was an employee of Schimpff's Confectionery and a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville.

She is survived by a son, Charles Phillips, Jeffersonville; a daughter, Meri Hamby and her husband, Jeff, also of Jeffersonville; three brothers, William David Lee, New Albany, Joseph Dale Lee and George Michael Lee both of Jeffersonville; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Charles Lee and her mother, Mary Louise Lee.

Visitation at the funeral home will from 2-8 p.m. Sunday.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Augustine's Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.

Jesse T. Jordan

91; World War II veteran

Funeral services for Jesse T. Jordan, 91, of New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. He died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Bowling Green, Ky., retired from the New Albany Post Office in the Custodial Department and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, the former Leona B. Dudley; three sons, Bob Jordan, Donald Jordan and David Jordan, all of New Albany; a daughter, Betty Hammonds, New Albany; a sister, Susie King, Sellersburg and eight grandchildren.

Visitation at the funeral home will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, and after 9 a.m. Monday.

Erma G. Padgett

90; VFW Ladies Auxiliary member

Funeral services for Erma G. Padgett, 90, New Albany, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Spring Street location of Kraft Funeral Home with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. She died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

She was the former Erma Gay and a lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1693 in New Albany.

Survivors include a daughter, Patty Jenks, New Albany; a brother, George T. Gay Jr., Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Dovel, Shenandoah, Va. and Ruby Harding, Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30.

William G. Phieler

73; of Crandall

Funeral services for William G. Phieler, 73, of Crandall, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey. He died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Visitation will be after noon (12 noon) Sunday, Nov. 30, at the funeral home.
