Graveside services for Lucille Summers, 89, of College Heights, Va., formerly of Georgetown, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Edwardsville Cemetery. She died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at her home in College Heights, Va.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.

James E Haller

75; Marine veteran

Funeral services for James E. Haller, 75, of Clarksville, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, New Albany, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany. He died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.

He retired as a chemical operator with Dupont Chemical with more than 30 year. He was a Catholic and a Marine veteran and was a member of Bonnie Sloan American Legion Post 28.

Survivors include two sons, James Haller, Manville, Rhode Island and Scott Haller, New Albany; four daughters, Karen Gedling, Clarksville and Rhonda Haller, Jamie Bradley and Rebecca Ott, New Albany; a sister, Sue Byrley, New Albany; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Market Street Chapel of Seabrook, Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Vista Care Hospice.

India W. Sarles

77; retired from former Olin Mathison

Funeral services for India W. Sarles, 77, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Friendship E.U.B. Cemetery, New Albany.

She was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, retired from the former Olin Mathison and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Hobart Beach Post 1693, New Albany.

Survivors include three sons, Donnie C. Moore, Louisville, Bruce Moore, Jeffersonville and Dwight C. Moore, Crestwood, Ky.; a brother, Buddy Washburn, East Greenwich, Rhode Island; four sisters, Alberta Murphy, Louisville, Mildred Marshall, Sanders, Ky., Betty W. Hill, LaGrange, Ky. and Diane Goetzinger, Mt. Washington, Ky.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Coffey and husband, Wesley J. Sarles.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 28.

David P. Lee

58; Vietname War veteran

Funeral services for David P. Lee, 58, of New Albany, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Abundant Life Cemetery, New Albany. He died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.

He was a native of Louisville, a retired machinist for the Naval Ordnance in Louisville, an Army veteran of the Vietname War and a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the First Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, the former Phyllis Elaine Sturgeon; two sons, Ron Lee, New Albany and David E. Lee, Georgetown; his mother, Lucille Murphy; a brother, Edward Lee, Jacksonville, Fla. and three grandchildren, Courtney, Becky and Dustin Lee.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Lee.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Leukemia Foundation.

Clara J. Merkel

86; of Batesville

Funeral services for Clara J. Merkel, 86, of Batesville, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at St. Anthony's Church in Morris, with burial in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Morris. She died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in Regency Place in Greenfield.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anne's Ladies Society, Morris Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Margaret Mary Hospital Guild and the Ripley County Farm Bureau. She was a longtime 4-H leader and former club leader for the Ripley County Farm Bureau Pet and Hobby Club and St. Anthony's Church in Morris.

Survivors include two sons, Raphael (Mary) Merkel, New Point, and Wilfred (Linda) Merkel, Corpus Christi, Texas; six daughters, Virginia (Raymond) Forthofer, Greensburg, Romilda "Millie" (Richard) Moorman, Sunman, Kathleen (Jerry) Bedel, Metamora, Clara Ann (Leona) Merkel, Indianapolis, Marilyn Merkel, Floyds Knobs and Christine Merkel, Greenwood; a sister, Frieda (Joseph) Merkel, Cincinnati, Ohio; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Merkel; parents, Joseph Brunsman and Philomena Hauser Brunsman; four sisters, Rosalia (Sally) Brunsman, Marie Roettger, Hilda Hartman and Catherine Merkel and four brothers, Joseph Brunsman, David Brunsman, August Brunsman and Albert Brunsman.

Visitation was from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Weigel Funeral Home, 200 S. Walnut St., Batesville, Ind. (812) 934-3201.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Morris Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary or the Right to Life.

Milton C. Hartmann

78; World War II veteran

A memorial services for Milton C. Hartmann, 78, of Clarksville, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Garr Funeral Home, Sellersburg. He died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Westminster Village, Clarksville.

He was a native of Bridgeport, Conn., owner and operator of Stag Spirit Shop in Fairfield, Conn. and a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Brownstein and husband, Glenn, Clarksville; two stepsons, Robert Bento, Westbrook, Conn., and Anthony Bento, Fairfield, Conn.; a brother, Clifford Hartmann and two sisters, Ann Camarro and Emily Brown.

Visitation at the funeral home will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.

Terrance M. "Terry" Hill

49; of avid sports fan

Funeral services for Terrance M. "Terry" Hill, 49, Henryville, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Henryville Community Church, with burial in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Charlestown. He died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.

He was a very proud family man who enjoyed many things including going to the auto auctions for his business, sports, especially IU basketball, his yearly fishing trips to Canada, and Sunday golf outings. He was a co-owner of Hills Auto Sales in Henryville and a member of Henryville Community Church.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Munk Hill; a son, Jared Hill; two daughters, Amanda Hill and her fiancee, Travis, and Shallon Hill; four brothers, Billy Hill of Ark., Tim and Jim Hill Jr. of Kansas and John Teubner of Alaska; two sisters, Linda Harris of Ark., and Julie Sargent of Kansas; his father and stepmother, James Hill Sr. and Nellie Hill of Kansas City, Kansas; stepfather, Marvin Palmer of Kansas; father and mother-in-law, McKee and Teenny Munk, Henryville; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jay and Fran Munk and their children, Cody, Cory and Cady, Henryville and friends and relatives.

Visitation at R. D. Pyke Funeral Service, Henryville, and until 8 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 26 and after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the church.

William Loyed Holt

79; Army veteran

Funeral services for William Loyed Holt, 79, of Sellersburg, were held at 1 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 26, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Sellersburg Cemetery. He died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Medical Center of Southern Indiana.

He was a native of Glasgow, Ky., an Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired construction worker. He was a member of Morton Memorial United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1832, Jeffersonville, American Legion Post 204, Sellersburg and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Renee and Michael Newton, Buffalo, Ky.; daughter, Onita Rose Holt, San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Edythe Nole and Opal Nein, Jeffersonville; three half sisters, Ruby Jolly, Virginia Ousley and Laverta Garrett, all of Glasgow, Ky.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Laverne Holt.

Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home.

Richard Henry Holzbog

90; tool design engineer

Funeral services for Richard Henry Holzbog, 90, of Clarksville, will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Scott Funeral Home, Main Street Chapel, with interment in Eastern Cemetery. He died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Westminster Healthcare Center.

He was a tooling design engineer at General Electric, worked as an engineer at American Air Filter and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Louisville.

Survivors include a sister, Ruth Holzbog.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Juretta Bamber Holzbog; father and mother, Henry Julius Holzbog and Elizabeth Meyer Holzbog.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, Jan. 26 at the funeral home.

Sheldon Tharp

84; Navy veteran

Graveside services for Sheldon Tharp, 84, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Rockport, with American Legion Post 254 conducting military services. He died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was a native of Rockport, born May 3, 1919 to the late Isaac and Anna Briscoe Tharp. He was a retired supervisor for Jeffboat, a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge in Rockport.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Tharp in 2001.

Survivors include a son, Russell Tharp, Jeffersonville; three daughters, Mary Bagshaw, Jeffersonville, Karen Tharp, Borden and Nancy Byrd, New Albany; four grandchildren, James Garrett, Mark Dunn and Anthony and Christopher Stemle and two great-grandchildren, Carrie Franklin and Brandon Garrett.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 27, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, 527 Main St., Rockport, IN., 47635
