Funeral services for Dorothy Eleanor Long, 90, of Charlestown, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at Christ Gospel Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. She died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Green Valley Care Center, New Albany.
She was a native of DeKalb, Ill., a retired teacher and a member of Christ Gospel Church, Jeffersonville.
Survivors include a son, Larry Wilson, Charlestown; a daughter, Nancy Takami, Borden; two brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren, Teru Irvin and husband, Todd, Cpt. Daniel Takami, Andrew Takami, Jonathan Wilson and wife, Cali and Julia Sisk and husband, Damon and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Quincey Irvin.
Visitation at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Govada M. Schafer
92; of Charlestown
Funeral services for Govada M. Schafer, 92, of Charlestown, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial in Silver Creek Cemetery. She died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at her home.
Survivors include three daughters, Judith McDonald and husband, Wayne, Seymour, Shirley Wise and husband, Jack, Mansfield, Ohio and Patricia Stoner and husband, Robert, Charlestown; a son, Keith Schafer and wife, Carol, Easton, Penn.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Schafer, her parents, Walter and Ida Mathes and a sister and brother-in-law, Mae Ora and Iris McCoy.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 and after 9 a.m. Saturday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice Care.
Russell L. 'Buzz' Bower
79; World War II veteran
Funeral services for Russell L. "Buzz" Bower, 79, of New Albany, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at St. Joseph Hill Catholic Church, Sellersburg, with burial in St. Joseph Hill Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Lincoln Hills Health Center.
He was a native of New Albany, retired after more than 30 years as a machinist at the old Naval Ordnance Station, Louisville and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the destroyers in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of American Legion Post 204, Sellersburg.
Survivors include his wife, Alice L. Barger Bower; a son, Brad Bower, Louisville; two daughters, Karen Bower and husband, Steve Housefield, Carmel and Cindy Camacho, Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Norma Schneider, Edgewater, Fla. and three grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan and Ila Camacho.
Visitation at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, Market Street Chapel, will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Stroke Association or VistaCare Hospice.
William James 'Jim' Krueger
63; U.S. Army veteran
A Funeral Mass for William James "Jim" Krueger, 63, of Sellersburg, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Joe Hill Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. He died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
He was a native of Jolet, Illinois, a U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church and Covered Bridge Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Howerton Krueger; his children, Ryan H. Krueger and his wife, Sandra, Sellersburg, Emily Davis, Indianapolis and Robin Norris and Todd Krueger, both of Louisville; a brother, John Crokovic, Lockport, Ill.; and his grandchildren, Evan, James, Brittany, Cody, Duncan, Jordan and Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis William Krueger and Anna Irene Pell Krueger.
Visitation at Garr Funeral Service will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22.
Marcene Zahn
81; homemaker
Funeral services for Marcene Zahn, 81, of New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, w with burial in Wolfe Cemetery, Georgetown. She died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
She was a native of New Albany, a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, New Albany. She was also a member of the Floyd County Homemakers.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth L. Zahn and wife, Linda, New Albany; a daughter, Joyce McGill and husband, Joe, New Albany.; two grandchildren, Teri Lyles and husband, Ron Lyles Sr. and James Zahn.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Avis B. Lefler
91; former New Albany resident
Funeral services for Avis B. Lefler, 91, of Aiken, South Carolina, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church, New Albany, with burial in Ames Chapel Cemetery, Paoli. She died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at her home.
She was the former Avis Bobbitt, a native of Orange County, Indiana. She retired from H.A. Seinsheimers in 1976 where she worked for more than 40 years. She was a member of DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church, New Albany.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue L. Henry and husband, Jim, Aiken, S.C.; a brother, John Bobbitt, Clarksville; four sisters, Sylvia Pamplin, New Albany, Margaret Duvall, Wesley Chapel, Fla., Grace Click, Clarksville and Jeanette Pearcy, Seymour; four grandchildren, Deborah, Lori, Wendy and David and nine great-grandchildren, Andy, Jimmy, Marissa, Sarah, Joe, Elizabeth, David, Michael and Jackie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon E. Lefler.

65; Vietname War veteran
Graveside services for Jack A. Brankle, 65, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Albright Cemetery, Kokomo. He died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Autumn Woods Health Campus, New Albany.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietname War and a retired manufacturing engineer for Westinghouse. He was a member of Brewster Society and the Christian Church.
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, M. Ann and Fred J. Bremer, Jeffersonville; a niece, Lacie Crone, Jeffersonville and nephew, Fred G. Bremer, Jeffersonville.
Visitation at Coots Funeral Home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21.
Dorothy M. Lewis
87; Utica native
Funeral services for Dorothy M. Lewis, 87, of Utica, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Utica Hillcrest Cemetery. She died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Sellersburg Health & Rehab Center.
She was a native of Utica and a homemaker. She was a member of Praise Church, Utica.
Survivors include seven sons, William "Bud" Lewis and Jake Lewis, Clarksville, Larry Lewis, Louisville, Pete Lewis, Lexington, Ralph Lewis, Scottsburg and Charles and Rickey Lewis, Utica; three daughters, Mary Ann Mahoney, Clarksville, Portia Harris, Utica and Pat Logsdon, Brandenburg, Ky.; three sisters, Elnora Laverne Vance and Anna Lee Dorman, Utica and Lola Mae Jarnigan, Clarksville; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Ray "Bud" Lewis and a son, Thomas Lewis.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 19, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Dorothy V. Busald
85; New Albany native
Funeral services for Dorothy V. Busald, 85, of New Albany, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Albany, with cremation to follow. She died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Autumn Woods Health Care, New Albany.
She was a native of New Albany. She moved to California in 1947 retiring in 1986 as executive secretary for Union Oil Co. in Los Angeles, Calif. She and her sister, Marianne, returned to New Albany in September 1995. She was a Navy veteran of World War II (WAVE), a member of Bonnie Sloan Post 28 American Legion and Navy League of the United States. She was also a member of Women's Auxiliary of Floyd Memorial Hospital and Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors include a sister, Thelma Beswick, New Albany; two nieces, Donna Lou Detrick, who cared for her and Deborah Pennington and husband, Michael; two nephews, E. Andre Busald and wife, Jane and David Baker and wife, Karen; five great-nieces; four great-nephews; seven great-great-nieces and six great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward C. and Olivia Busald; a brother, Edward A. Busald and sisters, Geneva Gorsuch, Elizabeth Baker and Marianne Busald.
Visitation at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St. New Albany, will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial of cremains will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, New Albany.
