Margaret Mackey

Margaret H. Mackey, 82, of Joliet, Ill., sister of Maurice Boultinghouse of Evansville, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

She retired in 1985 from Chicago Precision Supply, and she was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Also surviving is her husband, Archie.

Private services were handled by Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home in Joliet, with burial in Manhattan (Ill.) Center Cemetery.

'Betty' Bateman

LOOGOOTEE - Virginia E. "Betty" (Taylor) Bateman, 77, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at her home of heart failure.

She retired in 1983 from Loogootee Textile and was a member of St. John Catholic Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Katherine Brenner and Mary Elizabeth Williams, both of Dale, Karen Ellis of Washington, Beverly Bateman of St. Louis and Linda Bateman of Loogootee; eight sons, Robert D. and Joseph, both of Washington, Anthony "Tony" of Columbus, John C. of Tampa, Fla., Bill W. of Ferdinand, Gary Lynn of Otwell and Kevin and Keith, both of Loogootee; three sisters, Edna Wildman of Loogootee, Mary Clements of New Albany and Phyllis Smit of Kansas, Neb.; a brother, Charles "Chic" Taylor of Loogootee; 35 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m EST Thursday at St. John Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Brocksmith Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Mary Welsh

WASHINGTON - Mary Virginia (Homann) Welsh, 88, of Indianapolis, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Marquette Manor in Indianapolis.

She had worked for social services in Washington, was a graduate of Indiana University and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Tri-Kappa.

Surviving are two daughters, Kay Welsh of Indianapolis and Janet Clendenin of St. Louis; and three grandchildren.

Her husband, Matthew F., preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. EST Friday at St. John Catholic Church in Vincennes, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home in Vincennes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vincennes University or a favorite charity.

John McDonald

OWENS-VILLE - John L. McDonald, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Owensville Convalescent Center. He was a farmer and retired from General Electric in Mount Vernon.

He was a graduate of Stewartsville High School.

He was a member of Old Union Christian Church and attended the First Christian Church in Owensville.

Surviving are a daughter, Yvonne Gardner of Owensville; two sisters, Betty Davis of Poseyville and Helen Marie Brown of Owensville; two granddaughters, Anne Spainhower and Janelle Gardner; and three great-grandchildren.

His wife, Grace, died in 1996.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holder Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the cemetery.

Gladys Scott

PRINCETON - Gladys M. Scott, 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Gibson General Hospital.

She had worked in the cafeterias at Baldwin Heights and Princeton high schools.

She was a member of Lady Elks and a former member of Memorial Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Mayer of Phoenix; a son, Darwin of Nashville; six grandchildren, Anita Robbins, Eric Scott, Brad and Chad Mayer, Lisa McMullen and Amy Smith; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Leo, died in 1981.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Colvin Funeral Home, with burial in Columbia White Church Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Virginia Schumacher

WINSLOW - Virginia Lois (Phillips) Schumacher, 84, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

She retired in 1971 from US Rubber Inc. and had worked for Petersburg Health Care for 10 years.

She attended St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Lynnville.

Surviving are her husband, Amil; a daughter, Ruth Ann Reaves of Altanta; a son, Bill of Atlanta; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Neva Cresgy.

Services will be at 1 p.m. EST Friday at Curtis Funeral Home, with burial in Lynnville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

John Moore

ROCKPORT - John Robert Moore, 58, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Owensboro (Ky.) Mercy Health System of cancer.

He was a mechanic for 25 years for Retiki Coal Mines and was the owner and mechanic of John's Moore's Automotive Inc. in Patronville.

He won recognition many times for his Christmas lightings in Owensboro.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Diane; a daughter, Lisa Moore of Owensboro; a son, Robert of Rockport; three sisters, Patricia Stepro and Brenda Wead, both of Grandview, and Virginia Wheatley of Huntingburg; three brothers, Roy of Evansville, Larry of Dixon, Mo., and Gary of Grandview; four grandchildren, Tarah, Justin, R.J. and Tommie Moore; and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Jeff, died in 1997.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, with burial in New Hope Cemetery in Newtonville.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Buelah Meece

RICHLAND CITY - Buelah F. Meece, 93, died Tuesday, Dec 4, 2001, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Evansville of complications of pneumonia.

She was a member of Richland United Methodist Church, the quilters and sang in the choir. In 1968, she was the president of the former Women's Society of Christian Service.

She was a charter member of Ebenezer Home Economics Club, past president of the Hatfield Senior Citizens, a member of Richland City and Boonville Senior Citizens and the former secretary of Luce Township Farm Bureau.

She played the guitar.

Surviving are a daughter, Diane Faye Unfried of Boonville; two sons, William Earl of Huntingburg and George "Junie" Jr. of Chrisney; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, George Sr., died in 1991.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with burial in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gentryville.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

Carrie Mae Wheeler

Feb. 3, 1955--Aug. 20, 2003

Carrie Mae Wheeler, 48, of Anderson, died at home Aug. 20, 2003, after an extended illness.

She graduated from Madison Heights High School and was formerly employed as a certified nursing assistant at Community Northview Nursing Home. She was a member of the Anderson community since 1967 and also attended Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Jesse Mae Wheeler of Anderson; three daughters, LaTonya (Lawrence) Glover, LaTrecha and Felicia Watkins all of Anderson; five brothers, R.B. (Maude) Wheeler Jr., Tamper (Estella) Wheeler, Leroy (Ann) Wheeler, Kirby (Carrie) Wheeler, all of Anderson and Cleve Wheeler of Shreveport, La.; five sisters, Arleetha Steans, Sister Ethel (Elder John) Stewart, Katie (Rev. Henry) Prince, Bertha (Mark) Taylor, all of Anderson and Lena (Lester) Spencer of Panama City, Fla.; and a very special friend, L.C. Watson of Anderson.

She will be sadly missed by five grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.

And a special thanks to Dr. Larry Cripe, Katie Honche and IU medical staff and also to St. John's hospice staff.

She was preceded in death by her father, R.B. Wheeler Sr.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Viontta Traylor officiating. Viewing will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until time of funeral.

Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

All arrangements entrusted to Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service, 2223 Nichol Ave.

Wilburn C. Fisher

Oct 3, 1920 - Aug. 21, 2003

Wilburn C. Fisher, 82, of Anderson, died Aug. 21, 2003, at the home of his son after an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Mecca, Ind., and resided in this area since 1940.

He retired in 1980 as a tool and die maker from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after 40 years of service.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War I in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Bethany Christian Church and UAW Local 662.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years whom he married in Marion, Betty (Thompson) Fisher; one daughter, Connie Plough of Anderson; one son, Jeffrey "Kent" and wife Ann Fisher of Middletown; sister, Maryellen Bradley of Russiaville; four grandchildren, Jon and wife Tiffany Plough, Misty Plough, Douglas and wife Sherri Fisher and James and wife Vodka Fisher; great-grandchildren, Cassie Fisher, Kaylee Fisher, Alexis Fisher, Shaina Jenkins, Kelsey Ann Plough, Taylor Jo Plough. He was a father figure to Jon and Misty. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A special thanks to nurse Betty Hopkins, Dr. Kevin Luksus and Dr. Larry Blankenship.

He was preceded by his parents, Elmer and Essie (Baldwin) Fisher; grandson, Gregory Alan Plough; brother, William Fisher.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Fuenral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., with Robert Bell and Randy Wood officiating.

Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. military graveside rites will be conducted.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the South Chapel.

Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
