Robert A. Smith
MARION - Robert A. "Bob" Smith, 83, died at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He attended Kendallville Public Schools. He went into the U.S. Army Oct. 6, 1942. On D-Day in World War II he went into Normandy with the 967th Quartermaster Corps attached to the 2nd Signal Battalion. He was decorated by the United States and received the Liberty Medal from the French government. He was discharged Dec. 28, 1945. He was employed by Wheel Works, Kendallville for 20 years, then moved to Marion in 1956. He worked at the tool and die department of General Motors in Marion for 25 years, retiring Feb. 1, 1981.
He was a member of United Auto Workers 977, the CPC Sympathy Club and Van Buren American Legion Post 368. He attended Sweetser United Methodist Church. On retiring he taught himself leather tooling. He enjoyed telling jokes and traveling.
He was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Noble County to John H. and Erma V. (Weaver) Smith. On Feb. 16, 1946, in Kendallville he married H. Ilene Akey, who survives in Marion.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Cheryl Smith of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jack Grimble of Waynetown; and two grandchildren, Justin Grimble of Waynetown and Jana Grimble of Indianapolis.
Seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Sweetser.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jerry Miller
GARRETT - Jerry DeWayne Miller, 45, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 at 7:10 p.m. in his Garrett home.
Mr. Miller was a truck driver for Boran Trucking. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Auburn.
He was born Oct. 19, 1956, in Auburn to Tom and Judy (Shaw) Doehrman. They survive in Angola.
He married Tammela Tons on April 13, 1981, in Angola, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Kayla Miller, at home; five brothers, Terry Miller of Rome City, Mike Miller of Albion, Tim Miller of Ypsilanti, Mich., Tom Doehrman of Fort Wayne and Richard Smolek of Angola; and four sisters, Sara Wright, Brenda Hudson and Jolene Worman, all of Angola, and Belinda Smolek of North Carolina.
One brother, Greg Doehrman, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo, with calling after 10 a.m. Pastor Don Meyers will officiate. Private burial will be in Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett.

Dr. M.V. Lingle
CLEAR LAKE - Dr. M.V. Lingle, 92, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001.
Dr. Lingle was a summer resident of Clear Lake. He resided in Oakwood, Ohio.
He graduated from Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1936 and specialized in pedriatics and obstetrics-gynecology until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, Montgomery County Medical Society and its 50-year club, Planned Parenthood of the Greater Miami Valley and the American Association of Family Practice Physicians. He was recognized for 50 years of service at Miami Valley Hospital and St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was a longtime member of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior. He served on the Selective Service board during World War II and was a member of Edon Lodge F&AM, Scottish Rite, Antioch Shrine and the Shriners Medical Unit.
His parents wree William and Christena Lingle.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Dickerson); two daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne "Vonnie" and James Wiltsee and Jim and Karen France; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Lilli Lingle; a brother, Willis P.; three grandchildren, Sherry Bain and Garret and Logan Lingle; a great-grandson, Bric Bain; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
A private family burial in Glen Haven Cemetery
will precede a public memorial service Monday at noon at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Oakwood. Pastor Gary Eichhorn will officiate.
Calling is Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, Ohio. Scottish Rite services will be held in the funeral home Sunday.

Lola Nelson
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Lola L. Nelson, 81, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at 9:30 p.m. in her Bloomington home.
She was an accountant and a member of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the National Organization for Women and the Women's Political Caucus.
She was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., to Ross E. and Lottie (Langosch) Denison.
Surviving her are one daughter, Carol (Williams) Walter of Bloomington; one son, Gary Williams of Orland; two stepdaughters, Mary Ellen (Nelson) Birdwell of Jourdanton, Texas, and Carol Ann (Nelson) Christopher of Austin, Texas; one sister, Amy McCrory of Burbank, Ill.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
One brother, David Denison, and one sister, Hope Fransell, preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Deremiah-Frye Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Herzer
GARRETT - Barbara A. Herzer, 70, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at 12:12 a.m. in DeKalb Memorial Hospital, Auburn.
Mrs. Herzer served as a health and physical education teacher in the DeKalb Central United School District for 37 years, retiring in 1990. She was a pioneer in women's athletics in Auburn.
She graduated from Ball State Teachers College in 1953 and received a master's degree in secondary education from Saint Francis College in 1969. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association.
She lived in Garrett for 36 years and was a member of the Garrett United Methodist Church. She served on the Garrett Public Library board of trustees from 1981-1997, serving as president during the library's expansion and renovation. She was a board member of the Garrett Public Library Foundation, Garrett Historical Society and Garrett Alumni Association, which made her an honorary member for her contributions.
Mrs. Herzer and her husband, James, organized the first Garrett Schools Alumni Reunion in 1984, and were named Garrett Citizens of the Year in 1987. The couple were known to prepare and take food to those in the community experiencing emergency situations.
Mrs. Herzer was born April 16, 1931, in Orrville, Ohio, to George W. and Aleen W. (Frey) Bosse.
She married James C. Herzer on July 6, 1957, in Auburn. He died Dec. 31, 1996.
Surviving are three sons, Matt Herzer of Tempe, Ariz., Andy Herzer of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Tim Herzer of Salt Lake City, Utah; five sisters, Joanna Richardson of San Diego, Calif., Pat Huffman of Wooster, Ohio, Sue French of Chicago, Jeane Bosse of Germantown, Md., and Linda Stoll of Goshen; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Clark and Katherine Kleeman, both of Garrett; two grandchildren, Barrett Herzer and Haedyn Herzer, both of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Garrett United Methodist Church, with Dr. Scott Moss officiating. Burial will be in Christian Union Cemetery
of rural Garrett.
Calling is Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, Garrett.
Memorials are to the Garrett United Methodist Church or the Garrett Public Library Foundation.
Oliver Krueger
ANGOLA - Oliver M. Krueger, 76, of Angola died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at 5 p.m. at his home.
He was born May 18, 1925, in Cold Springs, Minn., to Frank Krueger and Elizabeth (Stomas) Krueger. Mr. Krueger married Ursula Brinkman on June 3, 1947, and she died in 1977.
During his life, Krueger worked as a housekeeping supervisor at the VA Hospital in Marion. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 95 in Jonesboro, the VFW Post 6728 in Gas City, and Gas City Moose Lodge 1778.
Mr. Krueger is survived by two sons, David Krueger of Waterboro, Maine, and Thomas Krueger of Nevis, Minn.; two daughters, Marlene Sweet of Angola and Catherine Dennis of Delano, Minn.; one brother, Melvin Krueger of Richmond, Minn.; one sister, Valeria Rauchendorfer of St. Cloud, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Marcellus Krueger, and two sisters, LaVern Loesch and Arnella Hansen.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Gas City with the Rev. Dave Newton officiating. Calling will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery
in Gas City.
Suggested memorials are to the American Cancer Society. Johnson-Klink Funeral Home in Angola is in charge of arrangements.
Grace Wolfe
ALBANY - Grace Mabel Wolfe, 98, formerly of Lake George, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 in Albany Nursing Home, Albany.
She was born in Dunkirk on Oct. 12, 1903, the daughter of Frank and Sarah (Ralph) Burroughs. She was married to William Garland Wolfe, who died in 1972.
Mrs. Wolfe and her husband operated a grocery store at Lake George. She had been a member of First Baptist Church, Dunkirk, where she was a member of the Mary Martha Class. She also was a Steuben County Extension Homemaker member in Fremont and was a member of the Steuben Woman's Club.
She is survived by a son, Richard, of Lake George; a daughter, Sara Miller of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, with Pastor Mike Harris officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery
in Dunkirk.
Memorials are to the Jay County Cancer Society.
