Infant Brianna Pfender-Lee

Brianna Jane Pfender-Lee, five-week-old daughter of Jane Pfender and Damon Lee, both of Evansville, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at her home. The Vanderburgh County coroner is investigating the death.

Also surviving are a sister, Danielle Pfender of Evansville; grandparents, Stephan and Nancy Pfender, Mary and Ralph Brown and Claude and Rita Lee; and great-grandparents.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, continuing at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Rev. Eugene Dewig officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Howard Cagle

HUNTINGBURG - Howard Phillip Cagle, 79, formerly of Chicago, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center of a stroke.

He retired at age 75 from the railroad in Chicago and was a member of the railroad and painters unions.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving from 1943 to 1945 as an airplane mechanic and inspector. He was the recipient of seven Bronze Stars and a Distinguished Unit Badge.

Surviving are five daughters, Alice Middleton of Rockport, Phyllis Mulligan of Gary, Patricia Rankin of Callahan, Fla., Edith Nugent of Gentryville and Debra Kiegal of Tennyson; four sons, Geoffry of Virginia Beach, Va., Daniel of Huntingburg, James of Petersburg and Raymond of Callahan; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Howard Jr. and Martin.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. EST today at Fuller Funeral Home Huntingburg Memorial Chapel. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to service time. The body will be cremated.

Clarence McKinney

LYNNVILLE - Clarence H. McKinney, 87, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Woodmont Healthcare Center in Boonville.

He retired from Old Ben Coal Co. in 1978 and was a member of the United Mine Workers.

He was a member of Log Creek General Baptist Church and attended North Friendship General Baptist Church in Lynnville.

Surviving are three sons, Larry of Rogersville, Mo., Gary of Columbus and Jerry of Sunman; two sisters, Pearl Brown of Spurgeon and Mabel Beasley of Oakland City; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. His wife, Valice, died in 1996.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pemberton Bradley Funeral Home, with burial in Lynnville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Friendship General Baptist Church.

Edna Like

VINCENNES - Edna (King) Like, 98, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

She worked at Hamilton Glass for 25 years and was a member of Hamline Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Hester Benedict of Winter Haven, Fla.; a son, John Stradtner of Hesperia, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. EST Wednesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time.

Alberta Skaggs

HAYS-VILLE - Alberta J. (Bernwanger) Skaggs, 85, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church Association.

Surviving are her husband, Irvin; a daughter, Patricia Ann Boeglin of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Robert Ray of Montgomery, Ala., and Bill I. of Jasper; two sisters, Dorothy Taylor of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Barbara Faenza of Hammond; two brothers, Leo Bernwanger of Dearborn, Mich.,and Dr. Damon Bernwanger of Corpus Christi, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Henry.

Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, with burial in Community Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Jane Kellems

TELL CITY - Jane W. Kellems, 89, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. She retired from General Electric and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 and American Legion Post 213 ladies auxiliaries.

Surviving are her husband, of 32 years, Francis; three daughters, Mary Leisner and Betty Bryant, both of Tell City, and Ruby Yoakum of Boonville; nine grandchildren, Omer Jr., David and Rodney Bryant, Lesa Ranger, James Yoakum, Jennifer Bobay, Bradley and Brian Snyder and Tammy Cossel; and 17 great-grandchildren. A son, William Snyder, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Derby.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. and a veterans service at 6:30 p.m., and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, all at Huber Funeral Home Tell City Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery.

James Newman

POSEY-VILLE - James O. Newman, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville of congestive heart failure. He had been a boilermaker, was a World War II veteran, a graduate of Poseyville High School and a member of American Legion Post Post 278, Masonic Lodge 263, Swords of Bunker Hill, St. Paul's United Methodist Church and its men's club.

Surviving are his wife, Dora Marie (Smith); three daughters, Jeane Egli of Wadesville and Suzanne Mills and Andrea Creek, both of Poseyville; three sons, Rhett Newman of Wadesville, Steve Baker of Madison, Wis., and Bruce Baker of Poseyville; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A son, Bill Baker, died in 1972.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Werry Funeral Home, with burial in Poseyville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Lorena Hartman

MOUNT VERNON - Lorena A. Hartman, 92, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital of congestive heart failure.

She was the oldest member of St. Philip Catholic Church and a member of its Altar Society.

Surviving are two daughters, Lois M. Herrmann of Evansville and Linda N. Conville of Mount Vernon; a son, Walter L. Jr. of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Sophie Engels and Lillian Brinker, both of Indianapolis, and Henrietta DeVito of Evansville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. her husband, Walter H., died last year.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home in Evansville, continuing at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church in Posey County, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a memorial service at 5:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Edna Blackford

BOONVILLE - Edna L. Blackford, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Woodmont Health Campus. She was a graduate of Lynnville High School and past president of the Chandler PTA.

She was a member of Shiloh General Baptist Church, Chandler General Baptist Church, its Ladies Aid Society, Main Street General Baptist Church and had taught Sunday school.

She had been president of the Mount Zion and Two Story Home Economics Clubs, worthy matron of Eastern Star 450 and a member of Young at Hearts, Captain Jacob Warrick Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

She had been on a bowling league until last spring.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan Beard of Newburgh and Jalene Schafer of Chandler; a son, Donnie of Clinton; a sister, Alberta Jenkins of Kentucky; a brother, David Junior Jenkins of Boonville; eight grandchildren, Randy and Ronnie Beard, Jim and Connie Blackford, Tammy Hinkle, Bobby Schafer Jr., Cathy Towler and Tracy Durgy; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Her husband, James Arthur, died in 1989.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
