Gerald Thompson

FORT WAYNE - Gerald "Jerry" Thompson, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in Huntington Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Allen County on Feb. 27, 1926, to Harry and Ruth (Hartley) Thompson. He married Betty J. Shockey, who survives.

He retired from Zollner Corp. in 1974 after 40 years.

He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Zollner Corp., the Miami Valley Coin and Relics Hunters Club, Fort Wayne Historical Society, and the Federation of Metal Detectors and Archeological Clubs.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda L. Koger of Columbia City and Karen S. Fredrick of Wolcottville; two sons, Gary L. Thompson and David H. Thompson, both of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Margaret Harmeyer of Fort Wayne and Naomi Hanes of Auburn; one brother, George Wayne Thompson of New Haven; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, with calling there from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.

Memorials are to the Fort Wayne Historical Society.

Beulah Moser

LIGONIER - Beulah M. Moser, 89, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Kingston of Ligonier.

Mrs. Moser was born April 29, 1910, in Ligonier to Charles D. and Viola (Prough) Emmitt. On April 16, 1927, in Syracuse, she married Charles E. Moser, who preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1999.

She had lived on their farm in Ligonier with her husband for many years. Also, they had resided in a home at Dallas Lake and in Sebring, Fla. She had moved back to Ligonier in 1999.

Mrs. Moser was a homemaker and was a member of Burr Oak Church and its Ladies Aid Society. Also, she had been a member of the Perry Township Home Economics Club.

Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene "Bud" C. and Helen Moser of Ligonier, Robert D. and Donna Moser of Millersburg, Jack V. and Deanna Moser of Ligonier and Larry E. and Judy Moser of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ellen Rose and Brooks Cobbum of Orlando, Fla., and Sandra K. Conner of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Dorothy Bobeck of Goshen and Norma Waters of Sebring; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Emmitt, a sister, Helen, and two granddaughters, Karen and Suzanne.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home, Ligonier, with a grandson, the Rev. Mitchell Moser, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are to Burr Oak Church.

Margaret Sessler

WOLCOTTVILLE - Margaret Berdina Sessler, 87, of Columbus, Ga., died Monday, June 5, 2000, in St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga.

She was born in Wolcottville on April 21, 1913, to Andrew Joseph Cook and Bessie Mae (Ream) Cook.

She was a former resident of Fort Wayne and Brandon, Fla., and was self-employed at Sessler Printing in Fort Wayne.

She was survived by two brothers, John Cook and Andrew "Bud" Cook, one granddaughter, Cindy Rowe, of Columbus, Ga., two step-daughters, Nancy McDougall and Connie Stucky, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Woodruff Cemetery in Wolcottville.

Calling will be two hours before the service in Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Earl Briggs

HICKSVILLE, Ohio - Earl E. Briggs, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at 7:10 a.m. in Fountain Manor Care Center in Hicksville, Ohio, where he had been a patient since Aug. 1.

Mr. Briggs managed Mentzer 5 & 10 Store in Hicksville and the Gift Shop for many years. he also worked at Kings Department Store in Fort Wayne and for Commercial Shearing in Hicksville for several years. He retired from Cline's Grocery Store in January.

He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Hicksville and had lived in Hicksville since November 1957. He graduated from Roseville High School in Ohio with the class of 1940.

He was born July 14, 1922, in Corning, Ohio, to Edward and Ida (Hanson) Briggs.

He married Angelina "Angie" Norton on Dec. 26, 1944, in Corning, and she died Nov. 27, 1994.

Surviving him are four daughters, Shannah Messmann of Angola, Kathy Stotler of Hicksville, Jan Chapman of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Randi Middaugh of Butler; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

One sister, Bettie Hambel, preceded him in death.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. (Indiana time) in Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with Ken Wellman, minister of the Hicksville First Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be of Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.

Calling is Thursday after 1 p.m. and Friday after 8 a.m. (Indiana times) in the funeral home.

Memorials are to the First Church of Christ Building Fund.

Kathleen Hoff

CROCKETT, Texas - Dr. Kathleen Patricia Beardsley Lowry Hoff, 73, formerly of Auburn and Hamilton, died July 26, 2000, in Crockett, where she had lived since 1989.

Dr. Hoff was born April 29, 1927, the eldest daughter of Frederick Hardy and Robert and Kathleen Beardsley of Hamilton.

She graduated from Auburn High School and earned her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from Ball State University. She taught at Metz School, Bowling Green State University and Sam Houston University.

Dr. Hoff belonged to the Christian Science Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, former first reader and chairman of the board of directors, state representative to the national conference, youth leader and college organization sponsor.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Houston County Career Women, Davy Crockett Pilot Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Kappa, Christian Women, National Education Association (lifetime member), Houston County Retired School Personnel, Piney Woods Fine Arts Association (charter member), and the Dressage Association. She served as a docent at Crockett historical homes.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Victor Hoff of Crockett; a daughter, Patty Lowry of Crockett; a granddaughter, Delight Faulkner, and a great-grandson, Hunter, both of Collierville, Tenn.; two sisters, Dorothy Beardsley Penland of Hamilton and Robin Beardsley Bernstein of Chicago; an aunt, Eleanor Russell of The Woodlands, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Fred Lowry.

Services and calling have been conducted.

Eva Krafft

ANGOLA - Evelyn S. Sawvel Krafft, 88, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at 5:55 p.m. in DeKalb Memorial Hospital, Auburn.

Mrs. Krafft was the former owner of the Coffee Cup in Butler and had worked many years at Walgreen's in Fort Wayne.

She was born Feb. 2, 1912, in DeKalb County to William and Sara (Greenfield) Rollins.

Her husband, Roy Sawvel, died in 1976.

Surviving are five sons, Dale and Don of Fort Wayne, Sherman of Orient, Ohio, Vern of Angola and Lonnie of Leesburg; two sisters, Edna Haffner of Butler and Rosa Krontz of Auburn; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Maynard, preceded her in death in 1999.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in H.E. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, Butler. The Rev. Randy Marshall of the Angola Church of the Nazarene and the Rev. Paul Patton of the Butler Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.

Calling is Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorials are to the Feed the Children Fund at the Nazarene churches of Angola or Butler.

Glen Friskney

ROME CITY - Glen D. Friskney, 71, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in his home. He had been ill for one year.

He was born in Toledo Nov. 18, 1929, to John Arthur and Bernice (Smith) Friskney.

He was self-employed at Friskney-Harding Trucking Inc. and Friskney Warehouse for 43 years. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and a member of the Kendallville Elks Lodge and Rome City American Legion.

Mr. Friskney moved to Rome City from Kendallville 14 years ago.

On June 10, 1956, he married Lois Frederick in Kendallville. She survives

Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Beth Friskney of Rome City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Denver Patrick of LaGrange, and Patricia and Mark Marzion of Wawaka; three sisters, Doris Colfelt of Kendallville, Mary Baldwin of Rome City and Elsie Kaiser of Kendallville; a brother, Ray Friskney of Kendallville; and five grandchildren, Nicholas Patrick, Nathan Patrick, Travis Marzion, Corey Marzion and Jack Friskney.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Carroll and Robert; and one grandson, Sam Friskney.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home, Kendallville, with the Rev. Dr. Dan Barker of Trinity Church United Methodist officiating. Burial will be at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Preferred memorials are to Parkview Home Health and Hospice of LaGrange.
