Hazel Hunnicutt
Hazel Hunnicutt, 77, Columbia City, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) at the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Hunnicutt retired in 1982 from E-Systems, Memcor Division, Huntington, where she worked as an inspector in quality control for more than 25 years. She was a member of the East State Street Church of God, Huntington, V.F.W. Auxiliary 2689 and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Huntington.
She was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Huntington to Lundy and Lilly Bryant Finney. She married Paul "Pill" Hunnicutt May 20, 1939, in Huntington. Her husband survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mickey (Kay) Nevil, Columbia City, and Janice Hunnicutt, Peoria, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Katherine) Ziegler, Huntington, and Mrs. Charles (Mildred) Edgar, California; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Finney, Cecil Finney and Gail Finney; and a sister, Esther Ray.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Dr. Larry C. Taylor will officiate at the service.
Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

James H. 'Jim' Sorenson
James H. "Jim" Sorenson, 52, 1739 Stults Rd., died at 6:25 a.m. Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at his home after an extended illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Bailey-Love Mortuary.
Elsie M. Vergon
Elsie Merrell Vergon, 87, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) at the Community Care Center, 850 Ash St.
She was employed at Caswell Runyan for 20 years and E-Systems, Memcor Division, as an inspector for 15 years. She retired in 1975. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689.
She was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Whitley County to William and Muretti Sands Vergon.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Mrs. Sally Di Fronzo, Camden, N.J., and August Stackhouse, Cherry Hill, N.J.; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Larry Mygrant and Emory Bolding Jr., both of Huntington, who were her care givers for many years.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth McCall; three brothers, Norvell Vergon, Fred Vergon and Carl Vergon; and two sisters, Nina Mygrant and Hilda Azar.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Don Louth will officiate at the service.
Burial will be at the Beech Grove Cemetery, Huntington County.
L. Elizabeth Osborne
L. Elizabeth Osborne, 71, Elkhart, died at 7:20 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at her home.
Mrs. Osborne had worked as a real estate broker for Century 21/Shultz Realty Company in Elkhart for 11 years, retiring in 1992. She and her husband had also owned and operated Ozzie’s Drive-In in Elkhart. She was a graduate of Roanoke High School and a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
She was born June 16, 1928 in Whitley County to Arthur B. and Lois M. Ferrell Smith. Her first marriage was on May 1, 1949, in Roanoke to James H. Howe, who died Aug. 7, 1959. Her second marriage was on Dec. 30, 1961, in Roanoke to Richard C. Osborne, who survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Roxanna L.) Elphick of Nappanee; two sons, Gordon D. Howe of Jamestown, Colo., and Michael A. Osborne of Elkhart; three stepdaughters, Jean L. Moody of Elkhart, Mrs. William (Janice E.) Schlabaugh of Elkhart, and Mrs. Kim (Nancy H.) Remmel of Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Kummer of Roanoke and Mrs. Paul (Betty) BaumGardner of Huntington; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 214 Division St., Elkhart. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Larry W. Kurtz officiating. Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol.

Paul E. ‘Gene’ Richard
Paul E. “Gene” Richard, 76, 701 Frederick St., died at 8:45 p.m. Friday (Oct. 1, 1999) at St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Richard, a lifelong resident of Huntington County, farmed in Clear Creek Township for 32 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the South Whitley Church of God and the Moose Lodge in Huntington. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1940.
He was born Dec. 26, 1922 in Clear Creek Township to Cleopas and Myrtle Barnes Richard. He married Donna Jean Votra June 30, 1945 in Huntington; his wife died Nov. 15, 1975.
Surviving are two sons, Gary Richard of Warsaw and William Richard of Huntington; two daughters, Marilyn Sue Roy of North Manchester and Mary Ann Martin of Fort Wayne; a brother, William C. Richard of Lowell; two sisters, Freda Foster of Jasper and Mrs. William (Mary) Bieghler of Huntington; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Capt. Mark D. Richard, and three sisters, Ida Robb, Crystal Richard, and Betty Rosella Richard.
Calling is 9-11 a.m. Monday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with services at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Rev. Steven N. Ailes will officiate. Burial will be at Beech Grove Cemetery.

Donna J. Gage
Donna J. Gage, 65, Decatur, died Wednesday (Sept. 29, 1999) at her home.
Mrs. Gage was a homemaker and co-owner of Gage Airport, Decatur. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Decatur, where she was a member of the Faith Circle, the Wisdom People and had served on many committees. She was also a member of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, Lucky Sams Camping Club, and a member of the former Order of Eastern Star, Decatur. She had been a resident of Decatur since 1956.
She was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Allen County to Albert E. Ware and Martha Mae Hartman Ware. She married Robert L. Gage Dec. 1, 1956. Her husband died May 5, 1993.
Survivors include three sons, Edward A. Gage, Decatur, Lynn R. Gage, Warsaw, and Neal A. Gage, Chicago; three brothers, Wayne E. Ware Sr., Fort Wayne, Hugh Ware, Marion, and Orren Ware, Columbia City; a sister, Laura Mae Burtrum, Springfield, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Calling is 7-9 p.m. Friday and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home, 225 W. Adams St., Decatur.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Dextor Garman and Rev. Sylvan Nussbaum officiating.
Burial will be at the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur.
Preferred memorials are to the First United Methodist Church or the Adams County Cancer Society.
Olive L. Barton
Olive L. Barton, 89, 1410 Riverside Dr., died at 4:10 p.m. Monday (Oct. 11, 1999) at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Mrs. Barton, a lifetime resident of Huntington, retired as an inspector with H.K. Porter in 1976.
She was born July 6, 1910, in Huntington County to Harry and Lula Mae Adams Double. She married Howard Barton on Sept. 3, 1931. He died Sept. 22, 1942.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Barton and Kenneth Barton, both of Huntington; a sister, Mildred Kline, Wabash; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Barton; and two brothers, Richard Double and Frank Double.
Calling is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Steven N. Ailes officiating.
Burial will be at Zion Cemetery.

Rev. Nigel A. Everett
Rev. Nigel A. Everett, 81, Warren, died Monday (Oct. 11, 1999) at the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren.
Rev. Everett was a retired minister and former chaplain at the United Methodist Memorial Home. She was the first woman licensed to preach in the North Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church in 1961 and served at Etna Green, Elkhart Simpson, Wolf Lake/Kimmel, Ossian/Prospect, Butler and Monon. She also served as interim pastor for the Warren and Plum Tree United Churches of Christ. She was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1985. She was an active member of Emmaus Community Church, the Bayview Reading Club and the Warren Area Ministerial Association. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in Ridgefield, Ill., attended Goshen College, Goshen, and Garrett Methodist Seminary, Evanston, Ill.
She was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Chicago to Elbert and Alice Hart Boyden. She married Wayne E. Everett on June 16, 1935. He died in 1976.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. DeOrsay (Lael) Russell, Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Kenneth (Judy) Stevenson, Big Bear, W.Va., Mrs. James (Sharon) Springer, New Deal, Texas, Kim Hart, Hollywood, Fla., and Kimberlee Everett, Montpelier; a son, Nathan Everett, Bellevue, Wash.; a brother, Nathan Lambert, Williams, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Arnold N. Lambert; a brother, Clair Boyden; and a grandson.
Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the Applegate Chapel of the United Methodist Memorial Home, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, with Revs. Clyde Trumbauer, Charly Dye, John Pattison and Herschel Dyer and Dr. Cynthia Reynolds officating.
Burial will be at the Prospect Cemetery
in Wells County.
