Judy Hart

Judy Hart, 54, 715 N. Jefferson St., died at 12:45 p.m. Friday (Oct. 29, 1999) at her home.

Mrs. Hart and her husband, Morris, have owned and operated Hart Funeral Home since 1973.

She was a 1963 graduate of Memorial High School in Waynesburg, Ky., and was a 1964 graduate of the School of Practical Nursing in Danville, Ky. She was a licensed practical nurse. She was a volunteer at Victory Noll for 19 years.

She was born Aug. 30, 1945 in Kings Mountain, Ky., to Russell and Amy Estes Sims. Her marriage was Dec. 31, 1966 in Pulaski, Ky., to Morris Hart. He survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Chad (Beth) Hamill, Sheldon, Iowa; a son, Jason Hart, Huntington; a granddaughter; three brothers, Donald Estes, Kings Mountain, Ky., David Sims, Columbus, and Jeff Sims, Waynesburg, Ky.; and three sisters, Roberta Adington, Kings Mountain, Ky., Mrs. Jerald (Iva Dean) Emerson, Liberty, Ky., and Mrs. John (Ester) Peavey, Franklin.

Calling is from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with Rev. Frank Gready and Rev. John Hess officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are contributions to Parkview Home Health Care and Hospice.

The Hart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eloise D. Working

Eloise D. Working, 65, 744 Whitelock St., died at 3:40 p.m. Friday (Oct. 29, 1999) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Working retired in 1997 from Huntington Nursing Home, where she was a social service director. She had also worked at Working’s Restaurant, Huntington. She had worked at Joe and Peg’s grocery in Mt. Etna for 19 years and was a bookkeeper for the former Working Tractor Service in Huntington.

She was a 1952 graduate of LaFontaine High School and earned her social service director certificate from Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne.

She was a member of the Mt. Etna United Methodist Church and the Huntington County Extension Homemakers Club.

She was born April 8, 1934 in Wabash County to Ray and Fern Wines Preston. Her marriage was Sept. 26, 1953, in Angola, to DeWight Working Sr. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1987.

She is survived by three sons, Steven R. Working and David J. Working, both of Huntington, and Gary J. Working, Andrews; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Kay) Buckner, Mt. Etna; two stepsons, Von Working and DeWight Working Jr., both of Marion; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, William Preston, Fort Wayne; and a sister, Lillian Bloxson, Wabash.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Preston.

Calling is from 2-8 p.m. Monday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Tim Prowse officiating.

Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion.

Preferred memorials are to Children’s Hope House, 7950 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46804 or the Mt. Etna United Methodist Church Building Fund, 6073S-594W, Huntington, IN 46750.

Mary Jane Sanders

Mary Jane Sanders, 53, Van Buren, died at 11:02 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 30, 1999) at the Marion General Hospital, Marion.

Mrs. Sanders was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had been a resident of Van Buren for seven years.

She was born Dec. 18, 1945, in Peru to John W. Long and Virginia Grimes Long. Her parents survive in Banquo. She married Buck L. Sanders Aug. 20, 1963. Her husband survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Ben W. Sanders, Las Vegas, Bob Sanders, Portland, Oregon, and Kirk Sanders, Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Randy (Jenny) McKinney, Macy, and Mrs. David (Susan) Nicodemus, Marion; 12 brothers and sisters and 12 grandchildren.

Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Needham-Storey Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Dewayne Keplinger will officiate at the service.

Burial will be at the Marion National Cemetery, Marion.

Preferred memorials are to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Leona E. Ellison

Leona Evelyn Lanham Ellison, 74, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren, died Thursday morning (Oct. 28, 1999) at Hancock Memorial Hospital, Greenfield.

Mrs. Ellison had moved to Warren in 1994 from Rushville. She attended Rushville High School and was a member of the United Methodist Church. Her late husband was a minister, and the couple served churches in the Charlottesville-Cleveland Charge, Modoc-Huntsville Charge, Macy, Leiters Ford-Monterey, Idaville-Lake Cicott, Eaton, Gas City, and Milford.

She was born March 14, 1925 in Rush County to Clarence R. and Leona Cross Lanham. She married Rev. Robert L. Ellison April 19, 1942, in Sexton; her husband died Aug. 23, 1995.

Surviving are a son, Larry E. Ellison, Greenfield; three daughters, Mrs. Stephen A. (Tina) Haynes, Landsdale, Pa., Mrs. Gary D. (Nancy) Hunt, Chalfont, Pa., and Mrs. Larry J. (Janice) Elston, Rossville; three brothers, Clarence Lanham, Fortville, Earl Lanham, Lenoir, N.C., and Richard Lanham, Rushville; a sister, Virginia McEntee, Pendleton; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Calling is 2-7 p.m. Monday in the Applegate Chapel of the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.

Glancy Funeral Homes, Butler Chapel, Warren, is in charge of arrangements.

Freda C. Hoopingarner

Freda C. Hoopingarner, 93, formerly of Ossian and Zanesville, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 28, 1999) at her daughter’s home in New Haven.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Calling is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday at the Elzey & Haggard Funeral Home, Ossian Chapel, 120 W. Mill, Ossian. Rev. Michael Heinbaugh and Rev. Linda Craig will officiate at the service.

Burial will be at the Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville.

Preferred memorials are to the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice or the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.

Janet S. Tackett

Janet S. Tackett, 48, 297N-750W, Andrews, died at 1:12 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 28, 1999) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Tackett worked in the cafeteria at Horace Mann Elementary School.

She was born Sept. 10, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, to Henry Shoemaker Sr. and Maggie Shoemaker. Her parents survive in Andrews. She married Conley Tackett April 8, 1966, in Clintwood, Va. Her husband survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Randy Tackett, Huntington, and Scottie Tackett, Andrews; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Terri) Wooley, LaFontaine, and Mrs. Greg (Pamela) Bell, Auburn; a brother, Henry Shoemaker Jr., Huntington; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Calling will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Andrews Chapel, 233 N. Main St., Andrews.

Calling will also be held beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by evening services, and Sunday afternoon and evening, followed by Sunday evening services, at the Little Northern Dove Church in Sidney, located on Ind.-13 between North Manchester and Pierceton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, followed by graveside services at the Riverside Cemetery in Andrews.

Paul E. Stetzel

Paul E. Stetzel, 88, a former resident of Himes Street, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) at the Forest Hills Convalescent Center in Richmond, Va.

Mr. Stetzel was a machine operator at American Hoist, Fort Wayne, for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Huntington.

He was born Jan. 13, 1911, in Huntington, to Daniel Stetzel and Elva Merriman Stetzel. He married Mildred I. Lowden in November of 1933 in Bedford. His wife died March 10, 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Daro (Sandra) Daniels, Quinton, Va.; a son, Larry Stetzel, Kissimmee, Fla.; a brother, Bob Stetzel, Huntington; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A brother, Don Stetzel, preceded him in death.

Calling will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Thursday at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Rev. Steven Ailes will officiate at the service.

Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Gene DeRoo

Gene DeRoo, 51, Fort Wayne, died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 24, 1999) at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne. He had been a lifelong resident of Decatur until moving to Fort Wayne in July of 1999.

Mr. DeRoo owned and operated J.D.’s Bar & Grill, Decatur, from 1987 to the present time. He had formerly owned and operated Service Master in Decatur from 1980-89 and had spent 10 years with Central Soya working in numerous departments. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Army from April 1968 to November 1969. He was a member of American Legion Post 43 and Moose Lodge 1311, both in Decatur.

He was born Nov. 18, 1947, in Monroe to Harry L. DeRoo and Hazel Hammon DeRoo.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Harry L. and Sharon DeRoo, Decatur; a brother, Roger L. DeRoo, Monroe; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Clark (Machelle) Alspaugh and Mrs. Terry (Linda) McAllister, both of Decatur.

Calling is 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Mike Andes will officiate at the service.

military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 43, Decatur, at the Decatur Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to the Adams County Cancer Society or the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.
