Elsie L. Martin
Elsie Luella Abel Martin, 92, died at 10 a.m. Monday (Oct. 18, 1999) at her home in Picayune, Miss.
Mrs. Martin, formerly of Fort Wayne, worked as a food service supervisor at Fort Wayne State Developmental Center. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Picayune.
She was born Feb. 2, 1907 in Fort Wayne to Ellis D. and Minnie Estella Mossburg Abel. She married Raymond B. Martin on Oct. 4, 1933 in Fort Wayne. Her husband died Dec. 2, 1946.
Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Marie Martin Clark of Fort Wayne and Myrna Martin Baughman of Picayune; a brother, Ellis Vernon Abel of Albion, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A son, Harold Abel Martin, preceded her in death.
A service is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Picayune, with Bishop Preston Spiers officiating.
Graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
Roanoke Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
John R. Anderson
John R. Anderson, 88, 1970 White Eagle Dr., died at 7:28 a.m. Monday (Oct. 18, 1999) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Anderson retired in 1976 from General Electric in Cleveland, after 42 years of service as an electrical engineer. He moved to Huntington in 1987. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Huntington, and a national member of the Illuminating Engineer Society. He graduated from Cleveland East High School, Cleveland, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Case Institute of Technology, Cleveland.
He was born June 23, 1911, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to Stuart and Margaret Anderson. He married the former Elsie M. Platt on July 14, 1950, in Cleveland. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Timothy A. Anderson, Baraboo, Wis., and Thomas S. Anderson, Waterville, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Cynthia) Baker Morrison, Huntington; and seven grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
Private family graveside services will be held at a later date at the Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
Preferred memorials are to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 605 Polk St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Jack L. Canten
Jack L. Canten, 53, Marion, died at 6:21 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at his residence.
Mr. Canten was employed for 1 1/2 years at GenCorp. He had worked at Hayes-Lemmerz International, Huntington. He previously co-owned Canten Floral for 25 years and Canten Satellite. He was a member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church.
He was born on May 20, 1946, in Marion, to Robert and Rosemary Campbell Canten. They survive in Marion. He lived most of his life in Marion, graduating from Marion High School in 1964. He was an avid bowler and fisherman. In 1969, he married Pat M. Moore. She survives.
Other survivors include two brothers, Bob Canten, Madison, Ala., and Tom Canten, Marion; a sister, Sharon Colburn, Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling is from 1-6 p.m. today, Sunday, at the Needham-Storey Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with Rev. Tim Apt officiating.
Burial will be at the Estates of Serenity, Marion.
Ruby M. Kemp
Ruby M. Kemp, 78, Fairfield, Ohio, died Saturday (Oct. 16, 1999) at the Tri-County Extended Care Center in Fairfield.
Mrs. Kemp was a self-employed cake decorator for 30 years, retiring in 1982. She was an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for more than 35 years.
She was born May 7, 1921, in Greenville, Ohio, to Orville and Carrie Bertrum Kennison and was educated in the Piqua, Ohio, schools. She married Edward W. Kemp Sept. 10, 1939, in Piqua. Her husband died May 20, 1988.
Survivors include a son, Charles E. Kemp, Fairfield; three daughters, Mrs. George (Connie) Schul, Andrews, and Mrs. Glenn (Karen) Mason and Mrs. Jack (Kathie) Campbell, both of Fairfield; a sister, Thelma Monroe; seven grandchildren and and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Treva Bertrum; a brother, Herman Hoffman; and a stepfather, John Hoffman.
Calling will be held from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. E.D.T. funeral service Tuesday at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4601 Fairfield Ave., Fairfield, Ohio.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. E.D.T. Wednesday at the Rosehill Burial Park, Rosehill, Ohio.
Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
Ned Spath
A private funeral service and burial for Ned Spath were held June 12 at the Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery
in Oregon.
Mr. Spath, 65, Selma, Oregon, died June 10 after suffering a stroke.
He had raced midgets, stock and sprint cars in the Midwest, Florida and California. He was a Navy veteran.
He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Huntington to Melvin C. Spath and Mary A. Burns Spath. His mother survives in Huntington.
Also surviving are his wife, Rita Spath; two sons, Ned Spath II and Brian Spath, both of California; a daughter, Deborah Sockwell, California; a stepson, John Welch; a brother, Chris Spath, Tyler, Texas; and nine grandchildren.
Marilyn L. Williams
Marilyn L. Williams, 69, died Monday morning (Oct. 18, 1999) at her son’s home in Garrett.
She was born June 24, 1930, in Fostoria, Ohio, to John W. and Flora M. Lovins Sekinger. She married Donald L. Williams, who died Jan. 28, 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald L. Williams, Marion, Ohio, and Randy L. Williams and Rick L. Williams, both of Garrett; a brother, Michael Sekinger, Yankeetown, Fla.; a sister, Susan Sekinger, Auburn; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. E.D.T. Wednesday at the Prospect Cemetery, Prospect, Ohio, with Rev. JoAnn Grepski officiating.
Preferred memorials are to the Dekalb County Hospice Program.

Betty Galbraith
Betty Galbraith, 75, Leesburg, Fla., and formerly of Huntington, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) at the Rulene Nursing Home in Eustis, Fla.
Mrs. Galbraith was employed as a secretary for 20 years, working at Huntington Laboratory, Huntington, and retiring as a legal secretary with P. C. Gorman, Attorney at Law, Leesburg, Fla. She was a former member of Central Christian Church, Huntington, and a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority.
She was born May 7, 1924, in Huntington to Paul Shideler and Nora Klepser Shideler. She married Robert Galbraith Aug. 15, 1943, in Huntington. Her husband survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Elaine) Seaman, Balatine, Ill., and Mrs. Thomas (Paula) Myers, Huntington; a son, Robert Galbraith Jr., Lafayette; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
Private family graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster. Pastor Mark Bendes will officiate at the service.
Preferred memorials are to Parkinson’s Research or to the Hospice of Lake and Sumter Counties, Tavares, Fla.

Amarillis A. Dabney
Amarillis Ann Dabney, 71, Bluffton, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 12, 1999) at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she had been a patient for the last two weeks.
She was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Tippecanoe to Omer S. and Opal Elizabeth Elkins Joy. She grew up in South Whitley and graduated from South Whitley High School. Her first marriage was to Max Sprowl. They lived in Huntington until moving to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1955. He preceded her in death. Her second marriage was to Kirby Dabney. They lived in Marion. He also preceded her in death. Mrs. Dabney lived in Bluffton for the past 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, James Sprowl, New Palestine, and Tom Sprowl, Richmond, Texas; three daughters, Karen Hudson, Bay City, Texas, Cheryl Sprowl and Judy Sprowl, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; four brothers, Harold Joy, Sweetser, Robert Lee Joy, Pierceton, Dale Joy, North Manchester, and Ralph Joy, St. Cloud, Fla.; a sister, Elizabeth Peters, Corpus Christi, Texas; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William George Joy and Henry Joy; and two sisters, Nancy Joy and Marjorie Breisch.
Calling will be held from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial will be at the South Whitley Cemetery.
