Raymond Heckber

Raymond Heckber, 82, rural Ossian, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday (Feb. 29, 2000) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Heckber was a farmer and attended the Ossian United Methodist Church.

He was born Sept. 20, 1917 in Wells County to Charles and Letha Travis Heckber. He married Mary L. Caston on Dec. 24, 1940, in Hoagland. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Don Heckber, Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Ted (Sharon) Kaufman, Decatur; a sister, Carol Sue Drudge, Claypool; three grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

A brother, Dale Heckber, is deceased.

Calling is from 2-9 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Elzey and Haggard Funeral Home, Ossian. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Jerry Stout and Rev. Michael Heinbaugh officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ossian.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Ossian United Methodist Church building fund, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Robert C. Hofmann

Robert C. Hofmann, 77, a former resident of William Street, died at 9:53 p.m. Wednesday (March 1, 2000) at Markle Health Care, Markle.

Arrangements are pending at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel.

Laurence A. Kethcart

Laurence A. Kethcart, 87, 2175 Guilford St., died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday (March 1, 2000) at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Mr. Kethcart worked in maintenance and repair at Huntington Lab, retiring in 1978. He had also worked as a deliveryman for Pure Milk in Huntington for more than 10 years.

He was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Gas City to Elmer Kethcart and Irene Wertenberger Kethcart. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1930. He married Lavida A. Clapp on June 7, 1936, in Indianapolis. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, John R. Kethcart, Old Town, Fla., Robert W. Kethcart, Warsaw, and Thomas E. Kethcart, Warren; two daughters, Janice A. Smith, Huntington, and Jane Cramer, Ft. Myers, Fla.; a sister, Grace Rooley, Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Frank Kethcart, Chicago; 14 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Dorthea Stetzel and Mary Shaeffer, preceded him in death.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions are to the donor’s choice in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Charles N. ‘Sugar Bair’ Bair

Charles N. “Sugar Bair” Bair, 48, 4497W-200N, Lot 35, died Saturday (Feb. 26, 2000) at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Bair had been employed at Honeywell, formerly Allied Signal/Bendix, Huntington, for 16 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was also a member of Huntington County Right to Life. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1969.

He was born June 7, 1951, in Huntington County to Nelson W. Bair and Mary Ellen Suttles Bair. His mother survives and lives in Huntington. He married Kathleen Smart April 6, 1974, at St. Mary Catholic Church. His wife survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Bart “Chuck” Bair, Huntington, and Michael Bair and Duane Bair, both at home; two daughters, Heather Bair, Huntington, and Shanna Bair, at home; two brothers, Richard Bair, Kings Bay, Ga., and Carl Bair, Huntington; and two sisters, Mary Jean Bair and Mrs. Jerry (Molly) Leatherman, both of Huntington.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson W. Bair, and a brother, William Bair.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., with Father Robert Fusselman officiating.

Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Connie Sue Greenwalt

Connie Sue Greenwalt, 39, Cloverdale, died Sunday (Feb. 27, 2000) at her home. She was a former resident of Huntington and Lafayette.

Mrs. Greenwalt was a member of the Cataract Missionary Baptist Church, Cataract. She had worked as a computer programmer at Purdue University, Lafayette, and had also worked at Triad Utrad in Huntington. She graduated from Eastbrook High School, Van Buren, and attended Ivy Tech State College, Fort Wayne.

She was born Jan. 21, 1961, in Van Buren, Grant County, to Larry Green and Elsie M. Cunningham Green. Her parents survive and live in Van Buren. She married Matt Greenwalt, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Samantha Jo, of Cloverdale; a son, Andrew, of Gas City; three stepdaughters, Dannielle, of Knox, and Kari and Sarah, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; a stepson, Ian, of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Mark Green, Warren, and Ed Green, Livonia, Mich.; her maternal grandmother, Pauline Cunningham, Van Buren; her paternal grandmother, Isabelle Green, Lakeland, Fla.; and one grandchild.

Calling will be held from 4 p.m. until the 8 p.m. funeral service Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Rev. Max Hetzel and Rev. Dan Metz will officiate.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Van Buren Masonic Cemetery, Van Buren.

Preferred memorials are to the Vista Care Hospice, 3900 South 7th St., Terre Haute, IN 47802.

Earl D. Hiner

Earl D. Hiner, 59, 7608S-200W, died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 26, 2000) at his home.

Mr. Hiner was a Jefferson Township farmer. He was formerly employed at IMC in Warren. He was a member of the Gospel Community Church, Huntington.

Mr. Hiner was born June 19, 1940, in Huntington County, to Vern Hiner and Mary Hoover Hiner. He married Beulah “Boots” Elswick Dec. 20, 1996, in Lawton, Okla. His wife survives.

Also surviving are a son, Chris Hiner, Warren; a daughter, Mrs. James (Vanessa) Webb, Mountain View, Ark.; a stepson, Ivan Hall, Lawton, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Debra Hess, Lawton, Okla., and Sharon Brooks, Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Hiner, Grabill, and Homer Hiner, Huntington; and three sisters, Crystal Essex, Indianapolis, Mrs. Max (Dorothy) Andrews, Buckland, Ohio, and Mrs. Bob (Marjorie) Tubbs, Cape Coral, Fla.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown & Son Chapel, Warren. Rev. Elzie Spencer will officiate at the services. Calling will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Additional calling will be prior to the services Wednesday morning.

Preferred memorials are to the Gospel Community Church, 404 Grayston Ave., Huntington, IN 46750.

Emley Erehart Lincoln

Emley Erehart Lincoln, South Easton, Mass., a former resident of Huntington, died on Wednesday, Feb. 23, in South Easton.

Mrs. Lincoln was a Girl Scout leader and helped form the Plymouth Bay Girl Scout Council. She also was involved in United Way campaigns and fundraising for Morton Hospital. She was an equestrian and was a member of the Mayflower Society. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Taunton. She was a 1934 graduate of Huntington High School and a 1936 graduate of Gulf Park Junior College.

She was born in 1917 to Dr. Mark G. and Ruth Bonner Emley Erehart. In 1938, she married Deane S. Lincoln and the couple moved east, living in Taunton, Mass. After retirement, she and her husband retired to Florida and lived 15 years at Melbourne Shores before returning to South Easton. Mr. Lincoln is deceased.

She is survived by two daughters, Anne L. Myers, Raynham, Mass., and Jane C. Scharff, Memphis Tenn.; one son, Mark D. Lincoln, Taunton, Mass; a sister, Nancy E. Temple, Melbourne Shores, Fla.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Calling will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, Mass.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church, 115 High St., Taunton, MA 02780. Cremation will follow.

Preferred memorials are to St. Thomas’s Episcopal Church or to the Plymouth Bay Girl Scout Council, 111 E. Grove St., Middleboro, MA 02346.

Sister Janet Thill

Sister Janet Thill O.L.V.M., 66, died at 2:22 a.m. Monday (Feb. 28, 2000) at the Holy Family Health Care Center at Victory Noll.

Sister Janet was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Manistique, Mich., to Martin Thill and Isabel Greene Thill.

She entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters on Sept. 5, 1955, and made her first vows Aug. 5, 1958. She ministered in missions in Michigan and California, and also at Victory Noll as a member of the Leadership Team for the past eight years.

Survivors include a sister, Loretta Hoy, Trenary, Mich.; two brothers, Alvin Thill, Fayette, Mich., and John Thill, Garden, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Erwin Thill, preceded her in death.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Victory Noll Memorial Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Victory Noll Chapel, 1900 W. Park Dr., with Father Thomas Fahey officiating.

Burial will be at the Victory Noll Cemetery.

Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., is in charge of arrangements.
